Me, you and the shining stars

Kate's pov. "How many times are you going to ring? Can't you see I'm taking a relaxing bath?" I was shouting to my phone from the bathroom, which kept ringing nonstop. Ignoring it wasn't an option anymore because the person on the other side of the line was persistent and wasn't going to stop ringing unless I answered the call. I stormed out of the bathroom, ready to kill whoever interrupted my rarest, peaceful moment. I picked up the phone, not bothering to check the ID. It must be Amy, it is always Amy! "Hello!" I answered the phone with a slightly irritated voice. I failed to hide how annoyed I was right now. "I hope you have some serio..." I was about to start my monologue, but it was cut mid-sentence. "Hello, my little witch, did you miss me?" said the deep, velvety voice, which I have missed so much. "Oh my God! Sandro! Is this really you?" I screamed, couldn't believe my ears. Hearing his voice was shocking for me. It was the best kind of shock I could ever get. "Yeah, it's me." He chuckled lightly after hearing my scream. "Oh my God... You... it's really you!" I screamed again, and tears fell from my eyes without me noticing them. "It's you..." My ability to talk got lost somehow, and just a loud beating of my heart was heard in the room. "Kate!" I heard his voice again. "I'm sorry, Kate!" He said and sighed loudly. "Sorry for disappearing for so long... But you know how I was, how I felt... Even talking to you was so painful..." I could clearly hear regret straining his voice. "Are you crazy?! Cut this nonsense! Are you okay? What happened? Will you disappear again?" I couldn't choose which questions to ask. I didn't know what to say. "God, I missed you so much! You have no idea how much... And I'm so happy that you called!" I said everything with one breath and cleaned my already damp face. "I missed you too, I missed you too..." he said and was silent for a while. "Sorry again for everything, Kate... I know how hard you tried, and thank you for that." He sighed again. "Sandro, I understand..." I said and wiped my tears again. "You have no idea how happy I'm right now. I can't even talk." I smiled sheepishly. "I love it when I make you speechless!" he chuckled. "I'll see you soon, my little witch, and we can talk as much as we want. I have so many things to tell you," Sandro said, clearly, with a smile and was going to say something, but I stopped him. "What do you mean? I heard it right, didn't I? Did I imagine something?" I asked and waiting for his answer nervously. He chuckled after what seemed to be a long silence, and I could clearly see his amused face, despite him being miles away. "Yeah, you heard it right. I'm coming back. I hope to see you on your birthday. I wanted to surprise you, but I don't want to give you a heart attack," he laughed. "Are you serious?" I screamed. "I'm!" He laughed again. "I have to go now, but see you soon! I love you so much!" He breathed out. "I love you too!" That was all I managed to say. I couldn't form any other word, and then he cut the call. *** I was sitting on my bed, looking at the phone. I don't know for how long. I can't believe he is coming back. He really is... Sandro is my best friend since I can't even remember when. And he is coming back! He was in Italy with his fiancé for a vacation. I mean, ex-fiancé. He wanted to introduce her to his family, which lives there now. And all the drama started there. A week later, after meeting his family, Jenna ran away with Sandro's cousin in Germany. Without saying a word to him. I can't imagine what Sandro went through. How hurt he was after being betrayed, not by one, but by the two closest people. He locked himself in his bedroom and shut everyone away from him. The moment I found out about Jenna, I flew to Italy to help and support him in any way I could, but he refused to talk to me, to acknowledge that I was there. I wanted to be there for him, but he didn't let me be. It was the hardest, but after three weeks of me being there, I had to get back home. If I had the choice, I would stay as long as it would take for him to let me help him, but I had to leave. He was there for more than 6 months, and I didn't hear anything from him. These were really, really long months for me. We were neighbors back in our childhood, and growing up, our friendship was getting stronger and stronger. And we were almost inseparable. So, him being away from my life was hard, way too hard. The bond we share is so strong that nothing will break it. So, I knew, sooner or later, he would overcome his grief and return to his old self. I wish it was sooner, to be honest, but it is what it is. I had so many emotions going through my body. I wanted to cry, laugh, scream from happiness. As the result of the tornado of emotions swirling in my heart, I was jumping on my bed and laughing like a madman. That was the state I was in when my friend Niki barged into my bedroom. "Kate!" She exclaimed and walked further into the room. "I was looking for you whole evening, worried something would happen to you if you didn't answer my thousand calls." She huffed. "Now, I see, my worries have a solid reason. You really are out of your mind this time!" She said and scrunched her nose. I just stared at her, not knowing what she wanted, and then continued my jumping and laughing session. "You really have some brain problem, Kate! I'll call the doctor for help!" she said with an irritated tone. "Can't I be happy? I'm just happy!" I grinned and collapsed on the bed, ignoring her grumpy mode. "Ah, just happy! As always! But jumping like a mad person?! That's something new!" She said with a frown and sat down on the sofa, crossing her legs. "You asked for it!" I said with a smirk and threw her a pillow, which landed on her head. She was shocked and wasn't waiting for that to happen, which gave me the time to hit her with another pillow, and then ran to the bathroom while giggling and locked myself in there. "Kate!" She screamed and ran after me. "You little wicked... You are so childish!" She muttered, and I tried hard to suppress my giggles. "Niki, stop whining, I know you love me the way I'm!" I managed to say with my laughter. "I hate you!" She said, but a smile was tugging her lips. "You ruined my hair!" She whined again. Sometimes, she is unbearable. Grumpy mood killer, but not today! "You're even more beautiful with messy hair!" I said with a bright smile and came out of the bathroom. "Now, stop whining. You can't ruin my mood today." I giggled and messed up her hair even more. "Is that so?" She asked with an arched eyebrow. "What is the reason for your special mood today?" "I know, I know you don't need any specific reason because you are already crazy, but... Tell me what is happening inside your wicked head!" She said with a smile. "You can't imagine what happened today!" I grinned and tucked my messed-up hair behind the ear. "Let me guess... You ate the perfect chocolate cake?" she said with a smirk. "Nooo.... Sometimes, you are so annoying, you know. Tell me why are we friends?" I laughed and pinched her cheek. "Sandro called today and... He is coming back!" I almost screamed my last sentence. "Did you hit your head this morning?" She asked with concern. "No, I don't remember hitting my head, but that's not the point! Can you believe he is coming back!" I shouted and started laughing again. "Are you serious? Is he really returning home?" She asked with wide eyes, and I nodded my head. "Wow, that's so good! I missed him so much!" She said with a bright smile. "But I'm a little bit jealous, now I have to share you with him! You two will be together all the time and will forget that I exist!" She said with a pout. "Don't be silly!" I hugged her tightly. "How can I forget you! You know how much I love you!" I kissed her cheek. I love all of my friends with everything I have got.
