Chapter 15: Lily POV (Mature covent warning/violent)
Numb. If one can feel actual numbness that is the only word I could use to describe my feelings. I didn't sleep. I didn't eat. I didn't feel. Days went by. I could sense both Alec and myself weakening. They were feeding him food which I'm pretty sure was the only thing sustaining my existence. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to keep our mindlink open. Soon we couldn't communicate.
My brother and sisters checked on me daily but I didn't speak to them. No one was speaking to Alec. No one seemed to be doing anything to prove his innocence so I stopped talking. I stopped everything. If they were going to punish Alec for a crime he didn't commit I would punish them. If I died I hoped it taught them a lesson. Innocent until proven guilty. It had never been a policy well kept in the werewolf community. They preferred to act first and ask questions later.
"Lily?" I didn't move even when my mother came to me. "Baby, you need to eat." She rubbed my back. I didn't move. "Release Alec or watch me die," I said. It was the only response I'd been willing to give anyone for seven days. I heard her sigh. "Flower, I am trying all I can to reason with your father but he is furious. He cannot ignore an allegation as serious as hunter status. I have Beta Thomas researching Alec's family. We are struggling to get in contact with them but we are trying." I finally looked up. "Really mama?" She smiled, "Yes, baby girl, really." There was an awkward silence. "You need to eat," she said, pulling a sandwich from behind her back. I shook my head. "Give it to Alec. I won't eat until he is free and in my arms." I laid back down. I heard her sigh behind me. "I miss you, Lily." She left when I didn't respond.
That night Daniel visited me. I ignored him. I was still angry with him. He had given me alcohol, making both me and Alec drunk that first night of imprisonment. He said it was to help me sleep. I think he was trying to weaken Alec. After that I refused to even accept water from him. I didn't trust him. I didn't trust anyone.
"We can't prove he is a hunter but we can't disprove it either," he said out loud. I didn't respond. I kept laying in bed, unmoving. "Enough of this s**t, Lily!" Suddenly he yanked on my arm and forced me out of bed. He had me staring into his eyes. He looked so frustrated. "Release him," I said. "Stop being foolish!" He screamed at me.
I felt nothing as I repeated the same phrase, demanding Alec's freedom. My protest was met with a hard slap to the face. I fell to the floor. I'd never been hit before. I looked up at Daniel with hurt in my heart. He looked panicked. "Oh Goddess, Lily, I'm sorry." I touched my burning cheek. "Release him or watch me die!" I screamed at him. He just kept fumbling with his words in the light of the fire.
Desperate times call for desperate measures I decided. I ran to the fireplace and pulled the poker from the embers. "Release him!" I screamed. Daniel stood frozen. "Lily, what are you doing?" I took the hot poker and held it close to my face. "Release my mate or I will give myself a mark you will all have to see for eternity in your nightmares!" His eyes widened. He tried to inch closer, thinking he was calling a bluff. I touched it to my cheek when he took a step towards me and not the door. I screamed so loud I'm sure I woke the whole pack. I heard the door open and several people entered.
"Lily? What happened to your face?" Lina asked. I found myself face to face with my whole family. "Release Alec or I will kill myself! We are better off dead and together with the Moon Goddess than in this Hell!" Everyone looked frightened. "I'm serious!" I screamed as I touched the poker to my other cheek. Now I had matching burns.
"Release the human!" My father yelled at someone in the hallway. I didn't move until I heard them running down the stairs. I fell to my knees, dizzy. "I did it," I whispered to myself, wishing so badly I could mindlink my mate that we were free.
