Chapter 14: Alec POV
Before we could complete the Acceptance Ceremony the party was ambushed and attacked. Lily, myself, and others were moved to a safe room. I was the only male. I held Lily the whole time we were there. During that time she taught me how to use the mindlink and we practiced communicating. It was how we distracted ourselves from the chaos outside.
Eventually the door opened. Alpha Nathan announced the incident was over and for everyone but "the human" to leave the safe room. They did as they were told except Lily. She remained, clinging to me.
"What's going on, Dad?" She asked, her voice nervous. Alpha stood there glaring at me as if I was the dirt beneath his feet. "We have a traitor among us. I'm sorry, Lily." We both stared, confused. Daniel appeared and ripped Lily from my arms. A bunch of big men grabbed me and held me down. "No!! Daddy no!!" I could hear Lily screaming for me. "No!! Alec!!!! Mate!!!!"
"You're a hunter aren't you?" Alpha asked me. I screamed "No!" Someone punched my stomach. I coughed up blood. "I'm not, I swear." Alpha kneeled down and took my chin in his hand. His icy blue eyes were frightening. He glared into my eyes. "Until I know for sure I will need to lock you up." He pulled away and stood up. "Put him in the dungeon. No one visits him."
I was beat by guards upon entering the cell they chose for me. I thought I would die. They only stopped when Daniel ran in screaming that Lily could feel any pain inflicted on "the human." I passed out for several hours and didn't wake until dusk. The light outside the window was dim. I could barely move but I could hear Lily. "Mate I'm coming!" Her voice sounded so frantic in my head.
Minutes later I heard a man say "No entrance. You know the rules." "I am of Alpha blood. You dare defy me?!" Suddenly the door opened and Lily was falling to her knees outside my cell. I was on my stomach, struggling to pull myself up. "Alec!!" She cried for me as she put her arm through the bars. "Mate..." I called for her as I forced my body up and towards the bars. I collapsed on the cold dirty floor. She grabbed my fingers. "Alec, it can't be true right? You're not a hunter right?" I coughed up more blood. "No, Lily Flower, I'm not a hunter. I don't even really understand what that means."
"A hunter is a human who is trained to hunt and kill werewolves," a voice from the darkness floated in. The man I recognized as her uncle Matthew appeared. "Lily, you can't be here. Hunters are very good actors and he will try to kill you." She shook her head at him. "No. No, you're wrong about him. Alec is my mate. He is my love." She caressed my fingers again. "Please let him out of there," she begged. "Let go, Lily. You can't touch him until we know the truth." She wailed when he touched her shoulder. She tried to shrug him away but he grabbed her up and ripped her fingers from mine. "No!!" We both screamed our protests but they seemed to fall on deaf ears.
It took a long time but eventually I managed to roll over on to my back. It hurt like hell. I struggled to understand what was going on. How could anyone think I was a hunter? The one time I was taken to hunt deer I freaked out and refused to shoot one. My family called me soft and refused to take me shooting again. I was barely ten years old when that happened.
I tried mindlinking Lily but the link was fuzzy. Moments later I felt drunk. Was someone giving her alcohol?! A girl that tiny can't handle...
I woke up at dawn feeling hungover. I held my hand to my head. It was throbbing. I felt nauseated.
"Mate?" I heard her voice in my head. She sounded so weak. "Baby, are you okay?" She cried. "My brother locked in my bedroom. I can't escape. I want to see you so bad. My heart hurts." I felt tears well up in my eyes. "Be strong, baby. We will figure this out. I swear I'm not a hunter. We will find a way to prove my innocence." I heard her sobs again. "If they don't release you soon...I...I won't survive without you. You're my mate. You're my eternity." Tears streamed down my face.
"I, Alec Matthews, take you Lily as my mate. I vow eternity to you. Will you have me?" The words I'd been taught to recite for the ceremony just kind of came out. "I, Lily, take you Alec Matthews as my mate. I vow eternity to you." We both declared our love and acceptance. Me in my cell and her in her bedroom prison. How long would eternity be at this rate? Would we even survive the weekend? Only time would tell.
