Chapter 2: Daniel POV Our parents kept their word. They gave their blessing for Lily to apply for college and even bought her a car. I blessed her with a security team no one would be dumb enough to threaten. "We are all set," Willard confirmed as we walked down a hallway of the nearby University. I nodded at the alpha and said, "Thank you. You have no idea what it means to Lily to get to go to school, to experience something outside of our pack." He nodded back, "How is Lily these days?" I looked over. As usual my friend Willard's hazel eyes looked so genuine and innocent. He was no threat to anyone. I knew he had a crush on Lily which always made me uncomfortable but I ignored it. "She is well, thank you. She is looking forward to starting classes tomorrow." Willard fidgeted with his hands, "I too will be attending if that brings you any extra comfort. It is tradition in my pack. We own the university after all." I nodded, "It does, actually. This school is primarily human territory despite the administration being entirely werewolves. I need our kind around to keep her safe. If I didn't already have so much on my plate I'd enroll as well." He ran his hand through his blonde hair. "My parents have made everything ready and perfect for Lily. We are very happy to have her. How are the preparations for the birthday party coming?" I listed off what we had prepared and the few things still in progress. "Just two weeks left right?" He asked. I nodded. I knew he was waiting for this party, desperately hoping to learn the Moon Goddess had planned for him to be Lily's mate. He was not much older than me and still single. He was waiting for his mate like I was. I wouldn't mind him being my sister's mate but as a big brother I was still working on accepting that my sisters even had fated mates. I didn't think anyone was good enough. My sisters, especially Lily, deserved only the best.  To change the subject I asked how his parents, Alpha Monroe and Luna Marie, were doing. He gave me an unusual look. "They are fine but our pack is experiencing another rogue issue. Would it be imposing if I asked for some assistance?" I agreed to help. We had a treaty still in place after all these years. When I returned home I reported to my father and mother. "Her classes are set, the campus security is in my pocket, and I've confirmed that there are wolves enrolled in all of her classes. Alpha Willard is one of them." My parents nodded in approval. "Go tell your sister," my mother said, smiling.  I knocked at Lily's bedroom door. No response. I pushed open the door. I found her huddled up in her reading nook that looked over the garden. It was her favorite place to rest and read. The natural sunlight that poured in spilled beautifully over her little face. Unlike myself and my two other sisters Lily was not built like the rest of us. She was tiny like our mother. She looked fragile, breakable. I knew she wasn't breakable but it was hard not to want to protect her. "Lil?" She looked up from her book. Her emerald eyes lit up. I walked over and sat down on the cushion next to her. "Everything is set for tomorrow." She gazed at me with awe. "Really? It's really happening?" She asked. I nodded and patted the top of her head. "Yes, it's really happening. Your security team is in place and Alpha Willard will greet you first thing when you arrive. He is going to show you around." She stared at me. "That's very nice of him but why would Willard do that?" I sighed. She is so naive it's almost cute.  "He is attending classes as well and thought you might appreciate a familiar face." She accepted my answer without question. It wasn't completely untrue. I finally felt my sisters were all happy, at least as happy as they could be mateless. I had a feeling Lily wanted a mate. Lina had met her mate. Liza was the only one who seemed uninterested. She never mentioned wanting to seek out a mate. I, on the other hand, wanted my mate. I would be taking on the title of Pack Alpha in a few years and hoped I'd meet my future Luna before I took the official position. I mean, who wouldn't want that one person made for you? Mates are meant to keep us going, to give us someone to love and to love us back. I saw no fault with the mate bond or how the Moon Goddess wrote our Fates.  On the first day of the Fall semester, Lily's first day, I engulfed her in a big hug. "Brother, I'm going to school not battle. I will be home in a few hours." I held tight and kissed her head. "Doesn't change the fact that I will miss you, Lil." She chuckled. "You're so dramatic." I laughed, "Call me dramatic all you want, it's not getting you out of this hug." She hugged back and then I watched as everyone else bombarded her with hugs and attention. Once I saw that she was getting overwhelmed I pulled her out the door and sent her on her way. She mind-linked me a "thank you" as she climbed into her car. "Be careful out there," I linked back. I had taught her how to drive and felt confident in her skills. It was the rest of the world that I didn't trust with my little sister. Seeing the security team vehicle follow her out eased my anxiety a little as I went inside the pack house to prepare for another day of Alpha training.
