Chapter 3: Alec POV
There is this girl that comes to the cafe where I work on campus. She is also in my English class. She has beautiful brown hair and green eyes. She is literally the prettiest girl I have ever seen up close. She has a smile like none other and she makes my heart race. But I think she has a boyfriend. She must be rich or important because any time I see her she has at least one huge bodyguard following her. I don't have the courage to speak to her. I don't even know her name. Her bodyguard orders her drink and blocks my view of her when he does it. She drinks a vanilla latte every day at 8AM before class. I work the early shift and late shift so I can attend classes in between shifts. I'm just a normal person with bills and a scholarship to maintain. I'm sure a girl like her is beyond my reach.
"Yo Alec, why are you spacing man?" I looked up. My best friend Max was waving his hand in front of my face. I realized I was daydreaming in class. I blushed with embarrassment. I heard laughter from the other side of the room. I thought I'd die when I glanced over and saw her. Vanilla Latte was laughing at something her blonde-haired companion said. At first I feared she was laughing at me and then I heard her tell the professor that he had misspelled "grammar" on the board. He looked away from me and started to argue but then stuttered when the blonde stood and glared at him. "Oh, Al-I mean Willard take your seat so we can continue." They laughed together. She had a beautiful laugh. I felt my heart stop when she looked my way and smiled. Did she do that on purpose? Did she just save me from getting caught? This professor was a hard ass. He threw a guy out of class on the first day for falling asleep.
After class Vanilla Latte made an unexpected stop at the cafe where I was helping with the lunch shift. I felt my face heat up when she approached the counter. This was a first. I saw the way she commanded the bodyguard to wait at the door. It was kind of strange yet hot to see a tiny woman like her ordering around a guy that looked like the Hulk.
"Welcome," was all I managed to get out when she approached and eyed the menu. "Hello," she said. I couldn't help staring at her lips. They were perfect. "I'd like a croissant and two donuts please." I nodded and logged her order into the register. "Anything else?" I asked, trying not to stare at her lips. She shook her head. "Sorry about earlier. I hope we didn't embarrass you. I know how Professor Smith can be." I stared, speechless. My dream girl was actually talking to me. "I'm okay," I whispered. I didn't think she would hear me but she did. "That's good. I'm Lily by the way." I thought I'd choke. Lily was such a perfect name for this perfect girl. "Alec, my name is Alec," I said, not knowing if she was expecting me to provide my name as well. "It's nice to meet you Alec. If you won't be too tired after class later we are having a study group in the library. You're welcome to join us." I stuttered out that I had to work. "That's too bad. Join us anytime you like. We plan to gather every Tuesday and Thursday at four." I nodded. My coworker handed me the bag of baked goods. As I handed it to her I felt an electric shock when my finger grazed hers. She looked unaffected. She waved goodbye. I couldn't believe how amazing I felt after she touched me. It was like electricity was running up my arm. It was almost orgasmic.
That night I did something bold, at least by my standards it was bold to ask my boss to let me leave early so I could go to the study group. Compromises were made but it was worth it when I walked into the library with a vanilla latte in hand. I scanned the room hoping to find her. I was almost ready to give up when suddenly her giggles could be heard from the second floor. I ascended the staircase and found Lilly with the blonde haired Willard. I had met him once in passing. They had two others with them, they looked like bodyguards.
I sat the latte down in front of Lily and thanked her for inviting me. "You're always welcome," she said. "Aren't you supposed to be at work?" Willard asked me. We had barely met and yet we both knew we disliked one another for a very simple reason: we both wanted Lily.
The atmosphere became more tense when another guy named Phillip appeared. He had invited himself despite being in a different Literature course. I sensed Willard knew Phillip's intentions well. And he knew I would pick up quickly. As usual our sweet innocent naive Lily had no clue we were all there to fight over her.
The night of studying involved less studying than Lily planned and I could tell it annoyed her. Phillip and Willard talked nonstop. I watched Lily lose her patience gradually. "I'm tired," she said, yawning. She said she was going to call her Uncle Matthew to come get her from campus. She was too tired to drive.
"I will take you home," Phillip said grinning. Willard volunteered as well. "Neither of you live near my house. I can call my uncle. He is nearby." The two men openly squabbled. Lily sighed in frustration. I very meekly offered her a ride. "Its close by and I don't have any bad intentions." The other two men started yelling at me but Lily chose me over them. "Drive me home please," she pleaded. The moment she climbed into my car she fell asleep.
I used Lily's phone GPS to get her home because she had fallen asleep and not stirred. Knowing it would look bad to show up with a sleeping girl in my arms I left her in the car and knocked at the door. I was amazed at the size and luxuriousness of it all. She said she had a big family, but how big exactly?
The door swung open. "Who are you?!" I found myself being stared down by a scary man with dark hair and blue eyes. His tattooed arms were almost like art. "I-I...I brought Lily home. She is asleep and I didn't want to disturb her." The man stared at me a moment and then went to pick her limp body from the car. The man scooped up Lily without issue and said "What pack are you from?" I stared, confused. Pack? "I don't understand," I said. He huffed "Go home."
As I watched him walk away I would have sworn I heard him call her "Flower" which suited her in so many ways. I wanted her to be my flower.
