Chapter 7: Jeanie POV

I felt a horrible throbbing pain in my head as I came to. It was made worse by an annoying beeping sound. I tried to open my eyes but they were just so heavy. After several attempts I opened but immediately closed them. The light was so bright! I felt tingles in my hand. Was someone touching me? I vaguely remember seeing a man before I passed out.

"Jeanie? Can you hear me?" I forced my eyes open this time. A heavenly voice was calling for me. I winced at the bright light above me and then turned to my left. I sensed someone there. He was very handsome with emerald eyes and curly black hair. He was holding my left hand. I realized the tingly feeling in my fingers was because of him. We were in what looked like a VIP hospital room. "He is mate," my wolf whispered to me. I stiffened at her words. Mates were trouble.

I pulled my hand away from his and said, "Please reject me." His eyes widened in surprise. "Why Mate? Don't you want to give us a chance? I promise to be good to you, to love you for the rest of my life. I've never wanted anything more than I wanted my mate. Please. My name is Daniel. My father is Alpha Nathan. Are you familiar with our pack?" I felt my heart thump loudly, painfully. He was an alpha? Not again!

An ear piercing scream left my throat and echoed through the  room. I didn't need another alpha abusing me! Doctors rushed in and my mate waited on the other side of the room. He looked genuinely concerned but I knew I couldn't let him fool me. Alphas were monsters!

After they stabilized me with something from an IV needle a middle-aged woman with blonde hair and green glasses greeted me. "I'm Robin, the pack doctor." She sat down and held my hand. No tingles. The green-eyed alpha was still in the back of room but he wasn't looking at me. He had a far off look like he was mindlinking someone. "Jeanie right?" She asked. I nodded, though I was confused by her knowing my name. Come to think of it so did the alpha! I scolded my wolf. She had to be the one to tell. "Could not resist mate. He saved us," she whispered to me. She was very depressed and broken. We both were. Alpha Phillip had destroyed us inside and out.

"How old are you Jeanie?" The doctor asked me my age. Should I lie? My father always told me to be honest with doctors. "I'm 20," I confessed. She nodded and wrote down some notes. "You are rogue but your wolf indicated you used to be part of a pack. Which pack? Who was your Alpha?" I stiffened at the mention of that monster. I chose to not speak. I wasn't going to let these people turn me back over to him.

"Jeanie? You don't have to tell me what pack you're from but I need you to look at me and answer my questions. I can't help you if you're not open about what happened to you." I felt tears collect in my eyes. "I-I..." It hurt too much. I looked up and my beautiful mate was staring at me. He didn't look angry, just concerned. Was this a trick?

"Alpha Daniel, leave the room," she suddenly said. He glared at the doctor. "Why should I leave? She is my mate. Mine!" I flinched at his tone but the doctor didn't. "Leave now or I will call your mother to remove you." He glared at her with fiery eyes and exited. I was flabbergasted. She just ordered an alpha around! She winked at me. "Know their weakness. Nothing scares that boy more than upsetting his mother, Luna Willa. It works on Alpha Nathan too." I felt my eyes widen. These Alphas had weaknesses and weren't afraid to admit it?

A few minutes later a tiny woman with red hair and very familiar eyes knocked and entered the room. "Hey Robin, I just saw Daniel storm out of the hospital. What's going on?" The doctor looked over and smiled at the runt. "Luna, perfect timing!" This was their Luna?! I stared with wide eyes. "Luna, this here is Jeanie. She is Daniel's mate."

The Luna put her hand to her mouth and said, "Oh Goddess, such wonderful news!" She came to my bedside and looked into my eyes. She radiated kindness, love, and strength. "Welcome Jeanie, I'm Willa. I am your mate's mother." I blinked. I was still processing.

"Jeanie came to us in bad condition but she seems hesitant to tell me what happened," the doctor said. I felt very small at that moment. Luna smiled and took my hand. There was so much warmth in her touch. It was very comforting. "Jeanie, when my mate brought me home to this pack I was in a bad state too. I spent quite a bit of time in this very hospital and Robin is the best doctor you could hope to have. Whether you are accepting of my son or not we will take care of you until you heal and give you a permanent home no matter what after you are released." I gasped, "Why?" She smiled warmly and said, "Because that is what family does. This pack functions as a large family. And you are my son's mate chosen by the Moon Goddess. The moment he carried you on to our land you became family."

Heavy tears broke through and I cried. No one had shown me such kindness in my life. She came closer and pulled me into her embrace. Her body was tiny but radiated everything a Luna should be: love, peace, warmth.

"Will you tell me what happened to you?" She asked. I felt a pull, a bond, to her and said, "My Alpha said I was his mate when I was 17. I was stupid and believed him. When I turned 18 I realized I felt no mate bond. I confronted him and he beat me. He said he was alpha and he chose me. I was devastated. I tried to leave but he..." I was breathing heavily, feeling overwhelmed. "Jeanie, sweetie, do you need a break?" Luna was very kind. I shook my head. Robin handed me a glass of water which I sipped from. "Alpha...he...he locked me in a room and only visited when he wanted to hurt me." Her eyes looked sad yet strong. "Did he physically abuse you?" I nodded, "He hit me a lot." She caressed my cheek with her motherly touch. "Did he rape you?" Her words sent me into a panic. The heart monitor machine started beeping erratically. I couldn't speak.

"It's okay, Jeannie. I was abused for 18 years. I know how painful it is to talk about. I almost didn't tell my mate but unlike my son my mate was more blunt and aware than I would have liked. He came out and said he could tell a male had been touching me, abusing me. I doubt Daniel could tell, not that it would stop him from loving you or dying for you. The men in this family are all or nothing. Daniel is no different."

I nodded, conflicted. She made my mate sound like he was perfect but I was afraid. She squeezed my hand as if she felt the anxiety radiating off of my body. "Jeanie, my son is far from perfect but if you give him a chance you will find he is the sweetest, most kind-hearted alpha-to-be you'll ever meet. He is my mate's son after all and I'm married to the toughest teddy bear to ever walk this Earth." I was mesmerized by the way she talked about her son and husband, the way her emerald eyes lit up. She made me want to give them a chance. I mean, who could pass up the opportunity to have this amazing Luna as their mother? I nodded, "I want to try." She smiled and ran her fingers through my hair. How I missed being touched in such a gentle manner. "He may drive you crazy at times but he will be the best mate you could ever hope for." I sniffed back fresh tears and said, "I trust you. I don't know why after everything I've been through but I feel like the Moon Goddess brought me to you for a reason." She leaned down and kissed my forehead. "She definitely did," she said to me.

"Who is kissing my mate?! I felt it!" We all looked towards the voice. Daniel had thrown open the door. He looked angry at first but melted when he saw me and his mother. "Daniel, honey, I'd like you to meet someone," Luna said. He looked confused but still walked over. His eyes latched onto mine and refused to break away. His eyes were so green, so beautiful.

"This is Jeanie, she has been through a lot and is willing to stay and get to know you." His smile lit up his face and he looked like he was going to speak. Luna interrupted him. "Before you say anything I want you to think on my words. Having a mate is a big responsibility. It requires you to make a vow to be her everything. That means showing her respect, patience, dignity, and love. You will not under any circumstance rush her to mark or mate. You will not be rude or undermine her as your future Luna. That means, Daniel, vowing to put her first. Are you prepared to be all that? Are you prepared to be her everything? If not, I need you to leave this room and never bother this young lady ever again."

Daniel stared, dumbfounded. He seemed to be somewhere between confused and offended. Suddenly his expression changed to one of realization. He nodded at her and said, "May I have my mate's hand please?" Luna smiled and got up from her seat. The beautiful man took my hand and looked into my eyes.

"I, Daniel, future Alpha of my pack, accept you Jeanie. From this day forward you are no longer rouge. I declare you part of my pack. As your alpha and mate I vow to you a life of only love, respect patience, and dignity. I will not rush you to mark, mate, or tell me what happened. I will wait as long as it takes for you to be ready. I vow to never undermine your decisions as Luna. I vow to put you first. You will be my everything if you will have me as your mate."

I tried to suck back the tears threatening my eyes but failed terribly. He wiped my tears from my wet cheeks and said, "What do you think? Can you accept me, Luna Jeanie?" I sobbed harder. This beautiful man was saying all the right things. I felt my heart race when my brain registered that he was an alpha-to-be and called me Luna. "You'd make an ugly broken girl like me Luna? Are you sure about that decision?" He smiled and caressed my cheek, "You, Mate, are stunning. It would be my honor to make you Luna one day. For now we need to focus on your recovery." I nodded and touched his hand. "I, Jeanie, formerly rouge, accept you Daniel as my mate and future Alpha. I vow to love you, respect you, and do my best to support you." His eyes lit up brighter than before. "Thank goddess," he whispered.
