Chapter 8: Lily POV

Chapter 8: Lily POV I visited Jeanie every day in the hospital after I learned Daniel had found his mate. She was a really sweet girl. I could tell she carried a lot of hurt in her but she also just seemed to need a lot of love. Daniel was definitely showering her with affection while the rest of the family tried to give her round the clock care. Even Uncle Matt and Aunt Shawna came to the hospital while I was at school. They were preparing for the arrival of their third baby. There was a family joke that they were insisting on having as many kids as Mom and Dad. "Can't be showing me up, big bro," I once heard Uncle Matt say, which I felt confirmed my suspicions. They were very competitive. I would not be surprised if they were trying to outdo each other. Things have been going well with Alec. He hasn't asked me on a proper date but we hang out with his roommate Max a lot. He is very nice. I don't mind despite my growing feelings. I'd rather have him as a friend than nothing at all. Sometimes I wish he could be my mate. Human mates are rare.  After study group on Thursday night Alec offered to take me home and buy me a milkshake along the way. My guard Paul was with us as if he was a chaperone of some sort. Alec even bought a chocolate milkshake for Paul, who just smiled at the gesture before devouring the shake in a few seconds.  "Are you sure your family is okay with me coming to your party Saturday?" He asked as we sat outside the ice cream shop. "My family is thrilled to meet you actually," I smiled, sipping on my strawberry shake. Alec told me I smelled like vanilla and strawberry. It was the cutest thing anyone had ever said to me. He was human so there was no way he knew that was my wolf's scent. It had to be a coincidence.  When he dropped me off at home with Paul in tow he asked if he could greet my parents. That made me blush. I went into the house and linked my mom and dad to come to the front door. Dad walked up shirtless, his tattoos on full display. Mom showed up in a fluffy bathrobe. "Mama, Daddy, this is my friend Alec from school. He drove us home from the library and wanted to meet y'all really quick." Alec walked over looking very confident as he introduced himself and shook their hands. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Alec. We hear a lot about you," my mother said, smiling. Daddy nodded, "Thank you for always getting Lily home safe." Alec smiled, "It's my pleasure, Sir. I like knowing she gets home safe after study group." Both of my parents nodded in appreciation. "Well, I don't want to hold you up Lily. Good night." Alec gave me the most beautiful smile and waved as he walked back to his car. My heart was racing from that alone.  My stress level was higher than usual the next day. It was Friday, the day before the birthday party.  The stress got my heart going which made me feel ill. I started panting and wheezing as I walked to class. I honestly felt close to fainting. I was going to call Alec or Willard when suddenly I found myself running into something hard. I crumpled to the ground outside the Science Building.  "Woah! Lily, you okay?!" The voice sounded familiar yet distant. I felt one of my attacks coming on. I was losing consciousness. "Lily, hey Lily, wake up!" I tried to open my eyes but couldn't until suddenly someone put a bottle of water to my lips and made me drink. The water felt so nice going down my throat. When I could finally open my eyes and focus I looked up to realize Alpha Phillip and my guard Paul were standing over me. "Miss Lily, I've linked your father. I'm taking you home," Paul said. I sat up on my own and said, "No, I'm fine." "Let me help you," Phillip said, helping me brush off my clothes. He was very handsome. I didn't care for his personality but I did have to at least give him that much. "Let me escort you to class," Phillip said, offering me his million dollar smile and hand. I accepted to be polite. He walked me to class and to my surprise was waiting for me after class. "Come on, Lily, let's go hang out somewhere." He was forward as ever. "No, that's okay, Phillip. I really should get home." His lips twitched as if he was struggling to keep his smile. "Come on, tomorrow you'll find out we are mates anyway. Why can't we spend time together now?" I stopped walking and stared up at him. What did he just say? "Lily, I'm 19. I've felt the mate bond pulling me to you for a long time. I've been trying to act patient and polite but I can't take this anymore. Can't we just be mates already?" He looked so sincere, even a little hurt. Phillip is my mate?
