"Police in Arizona, Colorado and Texas all want a piece of Charles Van Ness, a.k.a. Charles Morton," Brett said. He held the remote for the wall-sized computer screen, and a picture of a younger version of Charles popped up on the screen. "He is implicated in a 1993 murder near Pie Town, NM. The victim was Alma Billie, and she was last seen with Charles. Alma was from Zuni Pueblo, but had recently moved to Pie Town for a job. She hadn't been in Pie Town for three months when her body was found off of Highway 60, heart missing. Her heart, by the way, was never found."

"Including Alma Billie, fourteen murders in all. Two in Texas, two in Colorado, two in Arizona, the rest here in New Mexico."
