Chapter 27: Mixed Feelings

521 Words
That evening, Amara walked slowly back to her dormitory. The campus was peaceful, and the streetlights had just begun to glow softly along the pathways. Students passed by, laughing and talking, but Amara barely noticed them. Her mind kept returning to the letter Daniel had shown her. A special architecture training program. In another city. She knew how important this opportunity was for him. Daniel had always spoken passionately about his dreams of becoming a great architect. Still, the thought of him leaving made her heart feel heavy. When she reached her room, she sat on her bed and stared at the ceiling. “Why does this feel so complicated?” she whispered. Her phone buzzed. It was a message from Daniel. “Thank you for being happy for me today. It means a lot.” Amara read the message several times before replying. “Of course. You deserve this opportunity.” A few seconds later, another message appeared. “Can we meet tomorrow? I want to talk more about it.” Amara hesitated for a moment. She knew the conversation might not be easy. But avoiding it wouldn’t help either. “Okay,” she typed. --- The next day, they met at their usual place by the lake. Daniel was already there when Amara arrived. He seemed both excited and thoughtful. “Hi,” he said. “Hi,” Amara replied. They sat on the wooden bench, looking out at the calm water. Daniel broke the silence first. “I’ve been thinking a lot about the program,” he said. Amara nodded. “It’s a big opportunity.” “Yes,” Daniel agreed. “But it also means leaving the city for several months.” Amara felt her chest tighten slightly. “I understand.” Daniel turned toward her. “I don’t want this to create distance between us.” Amara looked at him. “What do you mean?” “I mean… I want us to stay together,” Daniel said honestly. “Even if I have to leave for a while.” Amara remained quiet. Part of her felt relieved to hear those words. But another part of her still worried about the future. “Long distance isn’t always easy,” she said softly. Daniel nodded. “I know. But I think we can make it work if we trust each other.” Amara studied his expression. She could see how much the opportunity meant to him. And she also saw how much he cared about their relationship. Finally, she smiled gently. “I don’t want you to give up your dreams because of me.” Daniel shook his head. “I’m not giving them up. I’m just hoping I can have both.” The breeze moved softly across the lake. For a moment, Amara looked out at the water and thought about everything they had been through already. Maybe love wasn’t about choosing between dreams and people. Maybe it was about learning how to balance both. But deep down, she still wondered if the future would test that belief in ways they weren’t ready for yet. 💕📖
