Chapter 2

Grace pov

“Thank you so much. The house is really beautiful and in very good condition” I say to the lady that I rent the house that I stay in.

“It was my mother’s. We lost her two years ago and we continue to keep it like that. You seem a good girl so I hope that you keep it like that. You say you are a doctor?”

“Yes. Pediatrician”

“Excellent choice. We need more in this town” she says

“I’m happy that I’m here,” I say and I see Kayla come outside. She is here for a few days to help me settle down. If she isn’t my best friend, I don’t know how she is.

“Hello. I’m Kayla, Grace's friend”

“Nice to meet you, Kayla. You are staying too?”

“No, I’m just here to help. I leave on Tuesday.”

“We will take care of your friend don’t worry”

“Thank you, miss...” Kayla stop

“Sally Evans. But you can call me Sally. So and you Grace.” You talked a little bit and then Sally left for her restaurant. She tells us when we finish we can go to eat something there.

We eat a sandwich for lunch and I and Kayla start to unpack the boxes. We start from the bedroom so we have somewhere to sleep the night and the other rooms later. The house was already painted. The master bedroom is painted in light pink. And the master bathroom is perfect for me. A shower, the bathroom counter, and the toilet. The house is a lot smaller than my parent's mansion but I don’t have a problem. The house is simple and comfy and I will make it a warm and relaxing place for me. I miss that from my life.

“I think is ready,” Kayla says and puts her hands on her hips

“Yes. It’s perfect” I say and I look at the room. When you enter to your left is the wooden bed opposite the closet. To your left of the bed, there is a door that leads you to a small balcony. Next to the closet is the door for the bathroom.

“Thanks for the help, Kayla.”

“Don’t mention it. I had time and I want to help. I couldn’t say goodbye yet anyway”

“I love you. I’m going to miss you so much” I say and I go closer and hug her

“I love you too sweetie. I’m going to miss you too. I think I will call every day just to make sure that I don’t miss you so much” she says and we laughing

“Come on. Let’s start unpacking your clothes and when we get hungry we change and go to Sally to eat” she says and I start fixing my closet. Kayla fixed and decorated the bathroom. An hour later around eight, we take a shower and dress to go for dinner. We found the restaurant, she was right if we asked someone he would tell us where is it. It is a minute's drive from my place so we quickly sit and order. When Sally saw us from the kitchen she came greeting us. We eat her special plate, baked spaghetti. It is delicious. The restaurant makes handmade homie food.

“You like the food?” Sally asks

“Yes, Sally. Amazing. It reminds me of Janet’s”

“You’re right,” Kayla says

“Janet?” Sally asks

“Yeah. She has worked for my family since I was a baby. She cooks delicious like you”

“I would like to meet her,” Sally says

“Well I hope she comes to visit me soon”

“If she wants to stay even better. I would like some help” she says laughing

“I will let her know,” I say smiling. That will be great. I love Janet and I want her in my life. We finish food and then we leave for home. We lay in bed right away and watching a movie we fell asleep.

The next morning I wake up earlier and I start fixing the kitchen. Until Kayla came downstairs I had already finished. The only that missing from the kitchen was to fill the fridge.

“Good morning. Why you didn’t wake me up?” Kayla asks as she enters the kitchen

“I wanted to wake up your own. I know how much you like sleeping “ I say smiling

“Anyway the kitchen was easy to fix”

“Is ten. Do you want to go for breakfast and then fix the living room and dining room?

“Sure. Let go dress up and go out” I say and I walk with her upstairs

“Maybe we go and buy and to the grocery store, “ I say and Kayla agrees. We dress in jeans and simple T-shirts and we drive to Sally’s place. Next to her restaurant she has and breakfast place. Is the only one that we know for now. We go inside and order breakfast. We eat and chat and then we go to groceries store. We shop for the house and we return home. We start decorating the living room, eat lunch, and then continue. Until Sunday we finish all the house. We sit on the couch and take a breath

“We finish,” Kayla says

“Thank you so much, Kay. You save me”

“Don’t mention Grace. I'm glad that I helped you and spent more time with you” I hug her and kiss her cheek

“You are the best”

“I know,” she says and we laugh. We eat dinner in the kitchen

“So how long will stay in the hospital tomorrow” Kayla asked me

“Well, tomorrow I will meet my colleagues and sign some papers. Official I start on Wednesday”

“Good so I will spend a little time with you before I leave”

“Yes. That will be great” We finish dinner and after cleaning we go to bed.

In the morning I wake up and I wear black pants and a light green blouse. Flat black shoes and a light jacket. I eat something light for breakfast and I drive to the hospital. Is a little outside the city about twenty minutes away. I park outside and I take a deep breath. I walk inside and I see the reception

“Good morning”

“Good morning. How can I help you?” I have pretty light brown hair with honey eyes greeting me smiling

“I would like to go to the pediatric department. Dr. Smith waits for me”

“You are the new pediatrician?”

“Yes”

“Welcome on board. You will go to the elevator” She points me to the elevator

“Your department is on the third floor. Dr. Smith's office is on your left as you walk out of the elevator”

“Thank you” I took her name label

“Alice. I’m Grace”

“No problem. Nice to meet you” she says smiling. I walk to the elevator and I push the bottom. I go inside and push button 3 and I wait to reach up. I find Dr. Smith's office and I knock on the door. I hear a come in and I open the door

“Dr. MacLean?”

“Good morning. Yes. But please call me Grace” I say and I walk closer and shake hands

“Welcome on board. I’m Dr. Smith. I will show you around and then I will tell you how to go to the administration office for the last paperwork” he is a kind man around fifty. With brown eyes and black hair but it has and little white on them. We go for a little tour, he shows me my office and the patient's room and then we go together to the administration office. I signed the papers they wanted and they said they wait for me the day after tomorrow. I left the hospital at lunchtime and I called Kayla to be ready to pick her up and go to Sally’s. I park outside my house and I see Kayla lock and walk to the car

“Hi. So how was it?” She asks

“Great. The colleagues are nice and the facilities excellent”

“That’s good”

Sally join us for breakfast. She asks me about the hospital. She is nice. Around forty, married with two kids. One boy and one girl, a boy in college in Boston and her daughter finish high school this year. She is so friendly and kind. Her husband has a successful business as she says in town, he sells cars. After we finish we return home to leave the car and I and Kayla take a walk around the city. We drink coffee in one coffee store in the park and return home for dinner. The next day we spent again together until the night that she took the airplane to leave for Seattle. We hug and cry a lot in the airport. After ten years together is the first time that we will live apart. Not so easy...
