Steven pov The day flows calmly, just the regular things that a sheriff in a town of Colorado doing. Out town is usually calm with not much trouble. “So Steven about Saturday. You coming?” My assistant sheriff asks me. He works three years with me and he is also a good friend. After the last relationship that ended up badly, with her leaving me one month before our wedding, five years ago he and the rest of my friends trying to make me date again. Not that I don’t want to date again but all the women that I dated until now don’t make me feel something. They are nice and beautiful but I just don’t feel like it. “It’s the last time Bill.” “Come on man you can be alone forever” “It's not that I want it. I just don’t like someone until now. I will go out with her but is the last time that you and the guys send me on a date” “Fine fine. But you have to try. She wasn’t the only one” I sigh. I have to get over Lisa. She is not in my mind anymore. Just I haven’t met someone that she makes feel something different. She will make me want to let my walls down again. “She not in my mind anymore Bill. Those that I have met are very beautiful and kind but I don’t feel something that makes me want to try something. I’m good ok? If she comes the one that makes me feel like that is fine. But I don’t want to force my luck” I say and I continue with some paperwork. “Ok. Maybe you are right. She will show up don’t worry” he says and walks outside “I’m going for patrol. I will pass by Pitt’s house to see if the father created problems again “You do that. He has understood that what he is doing will not pass. If you want take Tyler with you” I say and he leaves. I continue with my paperwork for almost an hour. “Hello son” I hear my father and he stands at the door “Hey. What are you doing here?” I say and I stand up “Nothing. Your mother told me to leave. She does the monthly cleaning in the house.” He says laughing “I get it. And she kicked you out” I say and we both laughing “You know. She doesn’t want anyone in the house when she cleans” “I know. And you say to see your old office” he sighs “You made a lot of changes. Everything modernized” he says. He was sheriff for thirty years before he retired and I took over. From time to time these five years that I’m the sheriff he visits many times. I can see he misses the work. He and my mother have replenished the time since he is not working but I can see that he loves this job. As I continue my work he helps a little and we talk a lot. He said again that he and my mother wanted to start a family. At thirty-seven I have to think of it very seriously. Here it goes again. I have to find the woman that makes me feel like that. I explain again “Dad I know you want to see me happy with a woman and see grandchildren from me too but is something I don’t want to force. I have to do that with a woman to create that feeling in me. No with some straight woman because it has to be done” “You are right son. Sorry. We just want to see you happy. And Aiden says you always push your dates” “Is not that they are not good girls. Just wasn’t feel right. Do you know? You have to say that when you saw Mom you felt it right away” “Yes from the first moment” “I haven’t felt that for anyone yet. So I will wait” “Not even with Lisa?” I look at him “Sorry. I know you don’t want to talk about her” I leave the pen down and look at him “It’s fine. No, I haven’t felt it from the beginning. And the proposal came naturally. Six years together was the next step. I don’t think she was the one. And this time I have to be sure” “Of course. Sorry if you feel pressure, we just want to see you happy” “I know. You have already had grandchildren from Aiden and Becca and you want for me that too.” I sigh “I want that dad too. But as I said I have to find the one this time” We chat for a few hours more and then he goes back home. When I finish I pass by Mrs. Sally's restaurant and I take some food for dinner. This is my life usually, except the days that my friends and my brother set me a date. The Saturday came fast and it was time to get ready for my date. I wear black pants and a light blue shirt. My sister Becca had said to me that the color is matching with my blue eyes so I guess I will give it a try. You never know maybe she is the one. I have to be open. I want to be open. I drive to her house, Bill has given me the address. I ring the doorbell and I wait to open the door. The door opens and I see a slim, blonde girl with blue eyes. Beautiful but she does not take my breath away. Damn it Steven you will not find a woman with the thinking “Hi. You must be Steven. I’m Jenny” she says and she gives me her hand “Nice to me too,” I say giving my hand “This is for you,” I say and I give her the flowers I buy on the way here “Thank you. Let me put them in the water and then we left. Come inside” she says and walks to the kitchen I guess. After a while, she came back and we started for the restaurant where my brother-in-law works. He is the manager there so I know that we will have a good time. The dinner was smooth, Jenny is working in the accounting office here in town. I have seen her before but we are not in the same circle so this is the first time that we have talked. She is nice but we don’t have common hobbies. She likes to stay home and watch movies. I prefer my free time to go camping and outdoor activities. And I don’t feel even s****l attraction to her. I see more like sister and I think she feels the same. I pay for the dinner and I take her back to her house. We both made clear that we were not interested in each other. We agreed to stay as friends, at least we will talk if we see each other in the town. I return home, I take a shower and I lay on the bed. I look at the ceiling and I wonder. She will be somewhere out there, won’t she?
