Dr. Bennett’s Shocking Encounter

1647 Words
The hospital emergency center was filled with the sounds of rushing footsteps, piercing whistles, muffled whimpers, and desperate cries for help. "Mr. Chairman, we've found Dr. Bennett!" a man in a black suit exclaimed as he rushed up to Carl Miller, the head of a powerful financial group. "What about our people?" Carl eagerly demanded, gripping the man's arm so tightly that he winced. "Everything's under control," the man responded. Satisfied with the answer, Carl loosened his grip. Just then, the renowned surgeon of the 27th century, Dr. Victoria Bennett, entered the room. Carl noticed that Victoria was dressed in her signature white coat, but also noticed her glamorous, high-heeled shoes, revealing that she had been pulled away from a social event. She walked past Carl and approached her patient, Sonya, who used to be Carl's fiancé but had since married another man to support her family. The assistant doctor spoke up, "Dr. Bennett, this is Sonya, 23 years old, 5’4”, 121 lbs. No history of smoking or alcoholism, no known allergies, and no major surgeries in the last year. The injury was in the heart, the bullet entered the right atrium after traveling through clothing and accessories." While the assistant was providing details, Victoria was already putting on her surgical scrubs. "Only in the right atrium? Couldn't someone else handle it?" Victoria replied with a nonchalant tone, a stark contrast to her usual dedication to her work. The assistant doctor awkwardly rubbed his chin and said, "I'm sorry, doctor, the bullet is too close to the aortic arch and none of the other surgeons on duty dared to touch it, so they called for you." Victoria looked at one of the attending doctors with a questioning gaze, but he avoided eye contact and remained silent. The intimidated assistant added, "The Chairman specifically requested that you perform the surgery, and no one could override his decision." Victoria sneered and strode into the operating room, where five assistants were waiting for her. Despite the lack of equipment, it wasn't a major issue as everyone knew that Victoria carried all the necessary medical supplies in the seven medical space carriers integrated into her wrist. As soon as she focused on what she needed, the digital device on her wrist emitted a green light, instantly summoning the necessary surgical instruments and consumables. Only seven people out of the ten million selected had survived the integration with the medical space. The operation was going smoothly, and to Victoria, repairing this level of injury was routine. But as they were close to completing the procedure and Sonya's condition was stable, a scalpel suddenly pierced Victoria's heart. She looked in shock at the assistant doctor who had reported Sonya's condition to her, who she had worked with for five years. She gasped, "Why?" The assistant doctor replied, "The Chairman ordered that Sonya can't leave alive." Victoria was speechless and felt herself growing weak. Before losing consciousness, she heard the assistant's final words, "She can't live. I have to kill her." These haunting words were the last thing Victoria heard before she died, never realizing that there was a greater surprise waiting for her beyond death. Victoria's heart raced as she tried to make sense of the strange scene before her. She couldn't tell if she was in a dream or if this was reality. She rubbed her eyes, thinking that maybe her mind was playing tricks on her, but when she opened them again, the grotesque statue was still there. Panic set in and she tried to get up and run, but she quickly realized that she was stuck to the ground. She struggled to free herself, but it was no use. Just then, the "statue" started to move. Its mouth opened and a voice boomed out, "Welcome to the Land of the Dead, Victoria." Victoria's fear turned into confusion. "What is this place? Who are you?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady. The figure chuckled. "I am the keeper of this land. You have been brought here because you have been chosen to complete a task." Victoria's mind raced as she tried to understand what was happening. "What task?" "You must retrieve the soul of a lost soul who has wandered into this land. It is said that whoever completes this task will be granted one wish," the keeper explained. Victoria hesitated. "And if I refuse?" The keeper's expression turned dark. "Then you will remain here, stuck in this land forever." Victoria thought for a moment, weighing her options. She had always been brave, even in the face of danger. She couldn't ignore the opportunity to make a wish that could potentially change her life. "I accept the task," she said determinedly. The keeper nodded and disappeared, leaving Victoria to start her journey. She wasn't sure what challenges she would face, but she was ready to face them head on. With a newfound sense of purpose, she set out on her mission, determined to retrieve the lost soul and return home. "Why?" asked Victoria, her voice shaking with fear. "I am losing strength. I need your help to live," the man replied, his grip on her waist tightening. Victoria was torn between her fear of this strange man and her instinct to help someone in need. She took a deep breath and tried to think clearly. "Who are you? What happened to you?" she asked. "My name is John. I was in a car accident. I need you to call an ambulance," the man replied. Victoria nodded and quickly took out her phone. She called the ambulance and gave them the details of her location. She stayed with John, holding him and trying to keep him conscious until the ambulance arrived. As she waited, she couldn't help but wonder what had happened to him and why he was covered in blood. But for now, her focus was on helping him and getting him to a hospital where he could receive medical attention. As Victoria ran, she couldn't shake the feeling of unease that lingered within her. She had never encountered anything like this before, and she was scared. But at the same time, she knew she needed to find answers and find out what was going on. She needed to find a way to help this b****y man, if that was possible, and to protect herself from any potential danger. Victoria made her way to a nearby hospital, where she hoped to get some answers about the b****y man's condition. She also hoped to find out if there were any reports of similar cases in the area. She spoke to the medical staff and showed them her medical space equipment readings, but they were unable to find any explanation for the man's condition. They advised her to report the case to the authorities and let them handle it. Victoria took their advice and went to the local police station, where she explained the situation to the officers. They listened to her carefully and took down her information, promising to look into the matter. With her duty done, Victoria felt a sense of relief. She had taken the necessary steps to protect herself and others, and she hoped that the authorities would be able to find a solution to this strange and disturbing case. As she made her way back home, Victoria couldn't help but wonder what the future held for the b****y man and herself. She knew that she would have to be vigilant and stay alert in case any new developments arose. But for now, she tried to push the thoughts out of her mind and focus on the present. As the clock struck half past the hour, two burly men in black attire arrived on the scene, ready to attend to the blood-soaked man lying on the ground. But to their surprise, the man was nowhere to be found! In his place was an unconscious body, barely clinging to life. Arthur, one of the men, cried out in alarm as he rushed over to check for any signs of breathing. Just as he was about to reach the b****y man, he felt a tight grip on his wrist. He looked down to see the man clutching onto his arm with surprising strength. Kurt, the other man in black, quickly came to his aid, but the b****y man waved him off, refusing his help. With a sudden surge of power, the man sat up and crossed his legs as a white fog enveloped his body. The two dark guards stepped back in awe as the fog clung to the man's skin, gradually transforming the bloodstains into icy chunks that broke away to reveal normal skin underneath. The man then took the handkerchief offered by Kurt and wiped away the last remnants of ice from his face, revealing a visage as beautiful as it was mysterious. The fiery red in his eyes had vanished, replaced by deep, dark pools that mesmerized all who beheld them. "Don’t fuss! Nothing is wrong with me!" declared the man, revealing himself to be none other than Charles Archibald, the king of the Archibald Dynasty. Kurt was left with more questions than answers, as the effects of the blood curse normally took hold at midnight and abated at noon. Yet, here was Charles, defying all expectations. The man was a mystery, but the king's thoughts were elsewhere, focused on the mysterious woman who had fallen into his arms and knocked him unconscious. Could she hold the key to unlocking the secrets of the blood curse? As for Victoria, she had fled to a safe distance, her mind awhirl with confusion and questions. How had she ended up entangled with the b****y man, and what did it all mean? The answers eluded her, but one thing was certain - she had to find out.
