A Strange New World

1517 Words
Victoria was a woman of science, but she also had a belief in things beyond what science could explain - like the sixth sense and parallel universes. But she never thought she would experience a metaphysical anomaly like this. She found herself transported to a world that was not of her time or place. This strange, unfamiliar world was called Rhode Island and was set around 3,000 years before she was born in her previous life. However, it wasn't the world she had learned about in her history books, but rather a parallel branch of the space track. Rhode Island was divided into five nations - Beverly Hills, Countryside, Oliver County, Little Venice, and Ember Empire. Ember Empire held the power over the other nations and each year, they demanded a tribute of a female sacrifice, known as a "proton," from each of the other countries to prove their loyalty to the throne. Victoria was from Little Venice, the weakest of the five nations. Unfortunately, the emperor of Little Venice chose his seventh daughter, Princess Victoria, as the proton for that year. She was just nine years old when she entered the capital six years prior, but now at fifteen, she was considered mature in this world, having just received the traditional hairpin symbolizing her coming of age. As she sat near a river and gazed at her reflection, she realized that it was difficult to feel like a princess. Her appearance was thin, unkempt, and lacked the health and beauty that typically befitted her royal status. These thoughts weighed heavily on her mind as she sat by the river, lost in thought. The world she had found herself in was so vastly different from anything she had known before. The customs, the traditions, and even the way people thought was completely alien to her. Victoria was feeling particularly vulnerable and exposed at the moment, what with the recent events at the birthday party and the constant threat of someone coming after her. But she was also a resilient person, and she knew that she couldn't let these fears consume her. She took a deep breath and reminded herself that she was a princess, even if it was in name only. And she had always been one to stand up for herself, even when others tried to bring her down. With a newfound resolve, Victoria stood up and made her way back to the palace. She knew that she had to be vigilant and always be on guard, but she also knew that she wouldn't let fear control her. She would face each day with courage and determination, no matter what challenges lay ahead. And in the middle, walking tall and with a stern look on his face, was the second prince. He wore a white robe embroidered with gold, and a crown adorned with gems sat upon his head. He was known for his cool and reserved demeanor, but today, his eyes seemed to be filled with anger. Victoria felt her heart skip a beat as she looked at him. She was filled with both fear and anger at the thought of being forced into a marriage with someone she didn't love. She straightened her back, ready to face the consequences of her actions. "What is the meaning of this?" The second prince's voice was cold and stern. Pauline stepped forward, eager to speak. "Your Highness, this woman is the princess of Little Venice. She was supposed to be a sacrifice but she escaped from the city and was seen with a sinful man. She deserves to be punished." The second prince looked at Victoria, his eyes studying her face. She tried to hold his gaze, but found herself looking away, feeling ashamed. "Is this true?" he asked, his voice still cold. Victoria took a deep breath, ready to speak the truth. "Yes, Your Highness. I did leave the city, but it was not to elope with a man. I just wanted to see the world outside the capital." The second prince was silent for a moment, then spoke. "You should have asked for permission before leaving the city. However, I will let this go this time. But let it be a warning to you, Princess Victoria. You are a proton and your actions reflect on the entire Little Venice kingdom. Remember that." With that, he turned and walked away, followed by Pauline and Shauna. Victoria was left standing there, feeling both grateful and disappointed. She was grateful for being let off with a warning, but disappointed that she would still be tied to this world and its rules. She looked at her reflection in the river once more, and sighed. It was time to return to the capital and face the reality of her situation. She was a proton in a world she didn't understand, with a future she couldn't change. But she would do her best to make the best of it, and maybe, just maybe, she could find a way to escape it all. Kris's expression changed instantly. He took a step forward, his eyes narrowing as he said, "Jealous? How dare you say such a thing! I am a prince of the royal family, and I have never been jealous of anyone in my life! You have no right to speak to me in such a manner." Victoria didn't back down, and she stood her ground. "Your Highness, it's not my intention to offend you, but your behavior and tone towards me suggest otherwise. If you're not jealous, then why are you so angry?" Kris was taken aback by her words. He had never encountered someone who dared to speak to him in such a manner, but at the same time, he was intrigued by her boldness. He wondered what kind of person this Princess Victoria was and why she was so different from the women he had met before. He took a deep breath and said, "Fine, I'm not jealous. But that doesn't change the fact that elopement is a crime in this kingdom, and it's my duty to bring you to justice. Come with me." Victoria knew that she had no choice but to comply, but she also knew that she needed to keep her wits about her. She needed to find a way out of this situation and return to her previous life, but first, she needed to figure out what was happening in this world and why she was here. As she followed Kris, she couldn't help but think that she was in for a long and difficult journey, but she was determined to survive and find her way back home. Kris was seething with anger towards Victoria, thinking to himself, "What happened to her? She used to be so shy. Did she take the wrong medication today?" "Hand over the adulterer now, or face the consequences," Kris warned, his threat filled with the intention to kill. "Our temple will behead you at the city gates, and even your father won't be able to do anything about it." Victoria saw the deadly glint in Kris's eyes and realized that he was not making an empty threat. Whether he was just angry or truly hated her to the core, there was no denying the danger she was in. Regretting her impulsive behavior, Victoria sighed, still adjusting to her transformation from Dr. Bennett to a proton princess. The thought of telling Kris the truth, that the "adulterer" was actually his father, the emperor, crossed her mind. But she quickly dismissed the idea, knowing that it would only lead to her quicker demise. Caught between a rock and a hard place, Victoria thought to herself, "What a mess. How will I ever get out of this?" Just then, a bodyguard burst into the room, announcing, "Your Second Highness, I've captured the bodyguard who eloped with Princess Victoria." Kris was stunned. He couldn't believe that there was actually a real adulterer involved. Despite Pauline and Shauna's attempts to inform him of Victoria's close relationship with a palace bodyguard, he never gave it much thought as he didn't have any interest in her. But now, with the revelation of a real adulterer, Kris couldn't help but question the situation. "How can I face such embarrassment?" he thought, even though he had no desire for Victoria. The betrayal was unacceptable. "Bring him here," Kris growled through gritted teeth. Victoria stared blankly at the man who was brought forward, bound and dressed like one of Kris's bodyguards. Pauline scolded the man, saying, "This is the audacious slave who dared to abduct the princess. You'll pay for your boldness." But before Pauline could continue, another bodyguard interrupted, revealing, "Your Highness, forgive me. It was Princess Victoria. She claimed to be pregnant with Neil's child and encouraged him to make plans for their escape. But on the journey, she weakened him by putting a d**g in his water and tried to kill him. Thankfully, he was able to fend her off, and she was unable to succeed. Faced with his resistance, she abandoned her plan to escape."
