Victoria was taken aback by Shauna's words. Second Prince? The man she had just slapped was the Second Prince? She couldn't believe it. Her mind raced as she tried to process the information. She looked at Carl, or the Second Prince, and saw the anger in his eyes slowly fade and be replaced by a look of confusion. He released her wrist and took a step back. "Your Highness, I am sorry. I had no idea that you were the Second Prince," she said, bowing her head in apology. "I thought you were someone else." "Who did you think I was?" The Second Prince's voice was cold, and his eyes bore into her. Victoria hesitated for a moment, but then decided to tell the truth. "I thought you were someone named Carl. He is someone who hurt me in my past life." The Second Prince's expression softened slightly, and he asked, "Can you explain what happened in your past life?" Victoria took a deep breath and began to recount her story. She told him about her previous life, how she had been engaged to Carl, and how he had betrayed her. She told him about the assistant doctor and how she had tried to save Sonya but failed. As she spoke, the Second Prince listened attentively, his expression becoming more and more serious. When she was finished, he nodded and said, "I understand now. I will have someone look into this matter and make sure that those responsible are held accountable." Victoria was grateful for the Second Prince's understanding and for his willingness to help. She bowed again, thanking him for his kindness. Pauline, who had been silent throughout the whole exchange, now stepped forward. "Your Highness, we cannot let this matter go so easily. Princess Victoria has committed a serious offense by leaving the city without permission. She must be punished." The Second Prince turned to Pauline, his expression stern. "Princess Pauline, I will handle this matter. I will make sure that Princess Victoria is dealt with appropriately, but I will not tolerate any further interference from you." Pauline opened her mouth to protest, but the Second Prince cut her off with a wave of his hand. "That is enough, Princess Pauline. You are dismissed." With a look of anger and frustration, Pauline turned and walked away, followed by Shauna. The Second Prince turned back to Victoria and offered her his arm. "Come with me, Princess Victoria. We need to talk." Victoria hesitated for a moment, but then took the offered arm and allowed herself to be led away. As they walked, she couldn't help but wonder what the future held for her in this strange new world. Victoria knew that she needed to find a way to resolve this situation and quickly. She could not just stand there and wait for her fate to be decided. She needed to find a way to prove her innocence and clear her name. She took a deep breath and tried to think of a plan. She needed to calm down and assess the situation. The prince was obviously angry and she needed to find a way to placate him. "Your Highness," she started, trying to keep her voice steady. "I understand your anger, but I assure you that there is no adulterer involved. I was simply trying to escape the marriage arranged for me. I have no intention of dishonoring the royal family or causing any trouble for you." Kris was taken aback by Victoria's words. He had not expected her to respond so calmly and rationally. He had been prepared for her to deny the accusations and become defensive, but instead, she had taken responsibility for her actions. He studied her for a moment, trying to determine if she was telling the truth. But he could not read her expression, and he was not sure if she was being sincere. "I will consider your explanation, but for now, you will be taken into custody," he said, finally. "I will conduct an investigation to determine the truth of the matter." Victoria nodded, understanding that she had no choice but to cooperate with the prince's orders. She hoped that she would be able to clear her name and prove her innocence, but in the meantime, she would have to play along and hope for the best. As the guards took her into custody, Victoria couldn't help but feel a sense of fear and uncertainty. She had a feeling that her life was about to become much more complicated, and she wasn't sure if she was ready to face the challenges that lay ahead. Victoria found herself in a difficult situation. She was powerless and lacked any agency to act, so she was forced to look for someone to pose as the supposed "adulterer." She even entertained the idea of accusing the Emperor of the Ember Empire, Kris's father, but quickly dismissed it as it would only expedite her own demise. She couldn't help but think to herself that she was damned no matter what she did. As Victoria was grappling with her dilemma, a guard rushed into the room and informed Kris that they had apprehended the guard who had helped Princess Victoria escape. Kris was taken aback by this revelation and found it hard to believe that there really was an adulterer. Despite rumors of Victoria's secret relationship with a palace guard, he had disregarded them as he had no interest in her. However, if there was indeed an adulterer, Kris knew that he would be faced with immense embarrassment. Despite not wanting Victoria, he was determined to catch the man responsible. He ordered for the guard to be brought to him immediately. When the man, named Neil, was brought forward, Victoria was shocked to see him. He was dressed in the same uniform as the other guards, but he was tied up like a crab. Pauline scolded him for his audacity in k********g the princess and accused the other guards of not knowing he was a traitor. One of the guards frantically cried out in defense, explaining that it was all Victoria's doing. Halfway through her escape, she had taken advantage of Neil's rest time to administer a mysterious substance in his water, weakening him. She had planned to kill him to silence him, but he was able to fight her off. When she saw that things were not going as planned, she retreated back to the capital. Upon hearing this, Victoria let out a long sigh.
