CHAPTER ONE- VELVET NIGHTS
The city never truly slept. It only changed clothes. When the sun disappeared, the streets traded their ordinary faces for expensive perfumes, flashing lights, luxury cars, and whispered sins hidden behind tinted windows. And somewhere in the middle of it all... She arrived. The black heels clicked confidently against the polished marble floor as every conversation in the lounge faded into silence. Heads turned without permission. Men stared. Women envied. She was breathtaking. Her crimson velvet dress hugged every curve with effortless elegance, stopping just above her knees. Diamond earrings danced beneath her long dark hair, and confidence rested on her shoulders like a queen's crown. Her name was Serena Vale. Or at least, that was the name the city knew. No one asked who she had been before. Names from broken homes had no place in luxury hotels. A slow smile curved her lips as another wealthy client crossed the room toward her. "You're even more beautiful than the photographs," he said. "I hear that every night." "And does it ever get old?" "Only the men do." The businessman laughed loudly, unaware that the smile she wore never reached her eyes. To him, she was a fantasy. To the hotel staff, she was a regular guest. To the city, she was an expensive secret. But to herself... She was simply surviving. Money had taught her lessons love never could. Money paid rent. Money bought designer dresses. Money silenced painful memories. Love had done none of those things. So she stopped believing in it. Every compliment had a price. Every dinner came with expectations. Every bouquet was simply another receipt waiting to be paid. She had learned long ago that the richest men were often the loneliest. And loneliness always paid well. She adjusted the bracelet on her wrist, glanced at the mirror beside the elevator, and forced another perfect smile. Perfect hair. Perfect makeup. Perfect illusion. The woman in the mirror looked fearless. The woman behind the mirror was exhausted. Her phone buzzed. Unknown Number. "Tonight will change your life." She frowned. No greeting. No explanation. Just one sentence. Before she could reply, the message disappeared from the screen. She looked around the lobby. For the first time that evening... Someone was watching her. Not with desire. Not with hunger. But with quiet curiosity. She searched the crowd. Nothing. Only strangers. Still, the strange feeling refused to leave. She slipped the phone into her purse and walked deeper into the velvet night... Completely unaware that somewhere nearby, a man who could buy almost anything in the world had just decided he would never pay for her body. He wanted something far more dangerous. Her heart. Chapter Two The Man Who Didn't Look The message stayed in Serena's mind long after she slipped her phone back into her purse. "Tonight will change your life." She had received strange messages before. Some were from obsessed clients. Others were from wives begging her to leave their husbands alone. A few came from men who believed money could buy forever. She ignored them all. As she stepped into the hotel's exclusive VIP lounge, soft jazz drifted through the room while crystal chandeliers bathed everything in a golden glow. Laughter echoed from different tables, where politicians, celebrities, oil executives, and foreign investors entertained themselves behind closed doors. This was her world. A place where wealth hid behind tailored suits and expensive watches. The manager hurried over. "You're late." "I know." "Table Seven requested you." Serena glanced toward the corner. A middle-aged businessman raised a glass in her direction, already smiling. She sighed inwardly. Another lonely millionaire. Another long night. She walked over with practiced elegance. "Good evening." "There she is." The man beamed. "I was beginning to think you'd forgotten me." "I never forget a client." He laughed, pulling out a chair for her. "You deserve diamonds." "I prefer cash." The table erupted with laughter. Hours passed in polite conversation, expensive wine, and endless compliments. Serena smiled when expected, laughed at jokes she had heard a hundred times before, and played the role everyone paid to see. Professional. Untouchable. Perfect. Then something unusual happened. As she excused herself and crossed the lounge toward the balcony, she noticed a man sitting alone near the far window. No drink. No company. No interest in the women drifting around the room. He wasn't watching her. In fact... He hadn't looked at her once. Serena slowed her steps. That had never happened before. Every man looked. Some stared. Some pretended not to. But eventually... They all looked. Except him. He calmly turned another page of the book resting on his lap. A book. In a place like this. Curiosity tugged at her. Who came to one of the city's most exclusive lounges just to read? Before she could move closer, the hotel manager appeared beside the stranger. His posture changed instantly. Respect. Almost fear. "Good evening, sir," the manager said quietly. The man nodded without lifting his eyes from the page. Even the manager seemed nervous. Serena watched from a distance. "Who is he?" she whispered to a waiter. The young man glanced around before answering. "I don't know his name." "But?" "They say he owns half the buildings on this street." Serena smiled. Rich men always attracted stories. She looked back toward the mysterious stranger. For the first time that night... He lifted his head. Their eyes met. Only for a second. There was no hunger in his gaze. No flirtation. No admiration. He looked at her as though he were searching for someone she had forgotten how to be. Then he calmly closed his book, stood, adjusted his black suit, and walked away without saying a single word. Serena remained frozen. No man had ever left without trying to know her. Without asking for her number. Without asking her price. She watched him disappear into the private elevator. For the first time in years... Someone had walked away from her. And somehow... That unsettled her more than any man who had ever chased her. Serena stood still for another moment, her eyes lingering on the private elevator long after its doors had closed. "Miss Vale?" The familiar voice of the hotel manager pulled her back. "Your guest is waiting." She blinked, smoothing the invisible crease on her velvet dress before putting her smile back on. "Of course."
