Chapter No 2 A Deal

1001 Words
"What on earth are you talking about? No, it can’t be." My voice cracked with panic. "I heard it with my own ears. He asked for your hand," Selena whispered, her face pale. My heart squeezed painfully. "You’re joking. Please tell me you’re joking. I can’t marry him. He is not my mate." My eyes burned as tears gathered. Selena sat beside me, her worry mirroring mine. She tucked her hair behind her ear, bit her lower lip, and exhaled softly. "Listen Ember. You still don’t have your wolf. You’ve never spoken to your wolf. We all waited for years but… Ember, it’s obvious now. You might be wolf-less which means you may never find your mate on your own. There is a chance Nathan could be your mate. And the pack needs an heir. Only you can give birth to a male heir. That’s why they want the engagement," Selena said gently. Her words sank into me like cold ice. Wolf-less. The word felt like a curse. Wolves usually start hearing their wolf’s voice at seven. I was long past that age. "Selena, my heart hurts. I don’t want this life. I don’t want to belong to someone who isn’t meant for me," I whispered as tears slipped down. "I understand. But Ember, we don’t have a choice. Alpha Nathan wants to meet you." She sighed. I gasped. "Why?" She rolled her eyes. "Because you’re going to be his Luna soon and he wants to talk to you. Obviously." "But he has a wolf. He is nothing like me. Why would he want someone like me?" I asked, confused. "I think he likes you," she smiled and walked out. I stared at my reflection. My green eyes looked back at me with fear and a silent question. Was this my fate? Would I really never find my true mate? A tear slid down my cheek. "Moon goddess… please don’t let this be true." --- When I walked to the dining hall, the room felt colder. The pack was eating, voices blending in a low hum. My father gave me a brief, unhappy stare. He always did that when things didn’t go his way. Ignoring him, I took my usual seat. Then he cleared his throat. A signal. A warning. I followed his gaze to my right—and my breath locked in my chest. He was there. Alpha Nathan. The Dark Alpha. Expressionless. Stone-faced. His aura seeped through the room like a silent threat. His eyes, deep and unreadable, lifted slowly toward me. "Hello Luna," he said in a voice so calm it sent a shiver to my bones. I wanted to scream I am not your Luna. "H… hello," I choked out. "All the arrangements for the engagement are ready," my father announced. Just like that. No introduction. No question. Only a decision forced into my bones. "Excuse me," I whispered and rushed away, feeling Nathan’s eyes burning into my back. Inside my room, I slammed the door shut and punched the wall. The frustration inside me was suffocating. I didn’t want this. Not with him. Not with a man I’d seen bully weaker wolves with his Alpha command. I threw myself on the bed and stared at the ceiling. Then the door burst open. I jumped up, breath catching. Nathan stood there. His eyes burned red around the edges, his aura thick and dangerous. The room suddenly felt too small. He walked toward me slowly and the pressure of his presence pushed against my chest. My limbs grew weak. He grabbed my arm, his fingers cold and firm. "You are my mate," he hissed, his eyes locked on mine. "And if you ever think of disobeying me, remember this. I do not need an Alpha command to break a wolf-less girl." His voice was venom. A threat. A promise. "My father has already given you to me. He wants a male heir. I want this territory. Our marriage benefits both of us," he added darkly, leaning closer. My stomach twisted. So my father sold me… and Nathan was buying. I wasn’t a daughter. I was a transaction. "I will not marry someone like you," I whispered, rage shaking through me. I pushed him and walked toward the door. But I froze. My father was standing there. Face twisted with anger. The room spun. Before I could speak, his hand came flying across my face. The slap echoed. My cheek burned. But the pain in my heart was worse. He had never hit me before. "Do what I say. If you ever cross your line again, I will make your life a living hell," he shouted. "Dad, I—" But my voice broke. My tears choked me. "Come Alpha Nathan. We have preparations to discuss." My father walked away. Nathan followed, without a glance at me. The door closed. I collapsed on my knees. "Oh moon goddess… please help me. I can’t do this. I can’t live like this," I cried into the floor. Outside, rain hammered the earth as if the skies were mourning with me. For the first time in my life… I felt truly, terrifyingly weak. All I wanted was to escape. To vanish into human territory. To leave the wolf world behind forever. I hugged my pillow, sobbing quietly. Everyone my age already had their wolves. Even Selena. Her wolf, Talon, spoke to her often. And I… I had nothing. Or so I believed. Because somewhere far beyond the storm, the moon goddess had already written a destiny for me. Outside, the rain fell in torrents, hammering the roof like the heartbeat of the universe, fierce and relentless. Something inevitable, something dangerous, something magical. Something I could never have imagined. Something, a surprise by Gods themselves. My destiny was written by many Gods themselves and if at that point I ever know. And I would meet it. A destiny far more magical. Far more dangerous. Far more powerful than anything I could ever imagine.
