Seeking for Approval

"Who am I?” a question I ask myself. My thoughts started to consume me as I dug deep. I question my entire existence. My family, my community, the environment, and the gods. Why do I have to suffer an identity crisis like this?
I checked every cubicle and it was all empty. Looks like I am the only one inside. I took a deep breath then shouted as loud as I could, letting all my frustrations out. I don’t care if someone escorts me out I don’t belong here anyway
I step outside the toilet then I bump into someone’s shoulder. Our eyes meet but she quickly turns around and enters the lady’s toilet. She looks familiar as if I have seen her before and why is she heading towards the men’s room? Did she hear me? If so I better apologize to her
I waited for her at the entrance of the toilet. I gave her a pat on the shoulder which startled her a little. I was shock to she her here
“Teodosia?” I reacted
She quickly turns around and walks away as if she’s avoiding me
“Wait!” I said as I grab her wrist
“Leave me alone” She said
I was frightened so I immediately remove my hand off her
“Shss! You don’t have to be so mean!” I said
“Why are you her in the first place?”
“You don’t belong here” She rudely said
“Well, I was forced to come here” I said then I point out Vermillion using my lips
She turns around and takes a look
“I see” She reacted
“And you? Why did you come here? Are you with your friends?” I curiously ask
“No I am here alone” She said
“So, you party all by yourself? Okay I’m out Vermillion might get up soon and look for me”
“Nice meeting you Teodosia” I said then wave goodbye
“Wait Ramon?” She said which made me to turn around
“Wanna ditch this place?” She ask
With no time to waste I grab her wrist and pull her outside
“Ver! I am heading out!” I shouted
Vermillion was so happy seeing me with a lady
“Say, Teodosia do you have a ride? Coz I only ride on Vermillion’s wheel on the way here” I ask
“Yeah” She reacted
I let go of her wrist and told her to lead the way because I really don’t know where we are headed. She led me to the parking lot beneath the establishment. My jaw dropped the moment I saw her ride. It was awesome, just like the one I saw on the magazine covers
“Don’t just stand there hop in” She said
“If you insist” I said then I ran towards the opposite side and hop in the passenger’s seat
We drove off and went to the seaside which is not far from the place
“Say Ramon, Why did you run for student council president? And your independent can you really pull it off?
“It's not that I underestimate you but you’re against Vermillion, the next heir of the Clan of Von Dire. Just so you know that they are the most powerful clan in and outside campus” Teodosia warns me
“Yeah, Tell me something I don’t know”
“And about the election I’ll win, watch me. Coz my life is on the line” I said
“How so?” She curiously ask
“We’ll do that. I might have gamble with the devil” I said as I scratch my head

“By the way if you don’t mind me asking what’s up with you and Vermillion lately? You seem close” She ask
“Well we do get along. He’s not really a bad guy once you get to know him”
“You should bond with us sometime” I propose
“I think I’ll pass. A lady of my caliber should not mingle with the likes of him” She seems piss
“Why is something the matter?”
“We can talk about it if you want. I’ll listen” I said
“Nah! I’m good”
“How about you tell me something about yourself instead”
“I’m curious about your race. I haven’t heard of it before. You seem unique” She said
“LOL! Maybe because of our location. Well we do live in a village in the rurals which is far away from here. It took us several hours just to get here” I said
She just gave me this curious look that give me the feeling that she is begging for more
“I do have a younger sister and a small land that my father and I cultivate to grow crops like wheat and stuff. We also raise livestocks” I said
“I don’t want to hear that. Tell about your race and your special powers”
“Word on the street that you gave the Trinity a run for their money” She said
“Huh? What are you talking about? Me against two teachers and the prefect and win?”
“What a big lie roaming around. You know that I just got my limiter remove right” I said
“That’s the point. Your limiter is broken surely you’ve unlocked powers”
“So what is it? Are you a spirit user? Can you show me?” She eagerly said as she moves closer to my face
“LOL settle down Teodosia” I said as I push her away
“I only unlock these eyes” I said as then show it to her
“So what does it do?”
“Tell me!!!” She said acting all childish
“Sad to say I can only see spirits but I can’t control them” I said
“Maybe you just haven’t unlock it yet” She said
“What about you, what powers do you have?”
“You’ve got your limiter removed for a long time right?” I said
I don’t know why but she got offended all of a sudden. Is it something I said?
“Look I’m sorry I didn’t mean to offend you. I really just wanna know about your powers that all” I apologized
“Why? To make fun of me?” She shouted
“Make fun of you? Why do I wanna do that?”
“For me everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. We can’t excel in everything you know”
“What we just need is to embrace our flaw and learn to use our skills effectively and efficiently”
“It doesn’t matter if you can’t keep up with others. Just do it at your own pace. Not everything is a race you know something takes time to grow and flourish” I said
She was speechless and her eyes became teary. Looks like she was moved
“Smooth talker” She said then punches my shoulder
“Aw! What did I do?” I reacted in a teasing manner
“Say Teodosia, why did you run for presidency aways? And how did you get the previous student council president’s support?”
“You can just ignore my question if you don’t want to answer. I won’t force you” I said
She laughs sarcastically
“Dude no need to be transparent it’s unbecoming of you really”
“Well about the former president’s support. She’s actually my elder sister and she’s graduating this year”
“About me running, that's a whole different story. What I know is that I’m running only for my father’s approval. It may sound weird but being the daughter of the God of the Sea is tough. Like people expect great things from you”
“My sister is naturally talented and smart while I was an oddball. Like I don’t have any talents and I am not smart making me a laughing stock of everyone”
“I was young and I couldn't handle the pressure so I started to lose myself in the process. I start outcasting myself from the crowd and only care for myself. To the extent that I think I can do anything on my own. I did everything I can just for the sake of doing it on my own. I don’t know why but feel happier that way”
“Then a tragic event happened. It was the inter school swim meet and I was up against a Von Dire. The race starts and half way across the pool my limbs won't move as they turn into stone. Everyone passes straight to me then several seconds later I manage to move my limbs. And you know what the arbiter said that they didn’t trace a single hint of foul magic used”
“I was goddamn furious about that and I disrespected the arbiter for no good reason
“Everyone was watching and I can clearly see the disappointed look on their faces”
“After the race my father wouldn’t take to me and threatened me as if I am not her daughter like he disowned me or something” She told
“What the! Maybe it isn’t foul play”
“Well muscles contract on their own you know. Like cramps”
“Maybe that’s what happened to you back there. So no need to feel sorry. There’s always a next time” I said
“Yeah for he swim meet but for my father’s attention and approval the none” She said
“Just a word of advice you don’t need to please everyone”
“Keep your achievements to yourself and stay low key” I said
