The Third Party

Chapter 13:

Jeremy hadn't seen Anna since he had called her. After that conversation he felt guilty. He felt like a complete jerk. And he felt like the worst boyfriend in the world. The next couple of days went by agonizingly slow. Everyday he wanted to reach out to her, to apologize, to tell her everything he had done wrong.

He had finally stopped thinking about it, hoping that someday she would forgive him. One Dee he decided to go to the library to catch up on a course he was taking at her university. Once did he sat down on the table nearest the window, turned on his computer, and started working. After an hour later, he heard someone sit down from him. He looked up and saw that it was Anna.

She smiled at him and waved. He smiled back and waved at her. "Hey,"she said. "Hey," he replied. "How are you?" "I'm good. How about yourself?" "I'm good too." she nodded and they both lapsed into silence.

They both seemed content just staring at each other. Finally, Jeremy broke the silence. "Anna ... I –." "Jeremy, I'm sorry," she cut him off." "You don't have anything to be sorry for. It's not your fault only." "Jeremy, I really hope you take care of yourself," Anna said sweetly.

"I should have known better to think that something like that would happen. If I had just stayed but then none of this would have happened," she continued. "I love you and I want to be with you. Nothing it's going to change," she explained. "But it might. And we already broke up, please don't keep bothering me. So, this is goodbye I guess.

"Bye, Jeremy" she finished with a smile and stood up once again to leave. "Wait," he called after her. She turned around and raised her eyebrows questioningly. "What?" she asked. "Don't you want to hear what I have to say?" Sure, let's hear what you have to say, "that you feel guilty for what happened between us. There is no need for us to be enemies, whenever we cross paths we will talk.

Jeremy stood up again and headed towards her, she backed away slowly, afraid that he might try something. Anna gave Jeremy one last hug and kiss and said her goodbye! When she was gone, Jeremy sighed heavily.

This definitely wasn't how he expected things to end up between them. But he knew that whatever he said would never change her mind and he accepted that. He walked out of the building and got back in his car.

"Why did you take so long?" Shobi asked. Anna explained what went on in the library with Jeremy. Shobi said, "Anna let's go clubbing and forget about this whole thing between you both."
