Socialites, welcome back to the scandalous world of Ravenswood Academy, where secrets lurk beneath the surface and drama simmers just below the boil.
Avery's Morning
Avery Patel sat at the kitchen table, sipping orange juice and chatting with her mom, Nilani. The warm morning sunlight streaming through the window made everything feel cozy and normal.
Just as Avery was about to take another bite of her toast, her phone buzzed with an incoming call. She glanced at the screen and her eyes widened in alarm.
"Mom, I have to go," Avery said hastily, pushing back her chair.
Nilani looked up from her coffee, concerned. "What's wrong, sweetie?"
Avery thought fast. "I, uh, I left my homework on the bus, and I need to go catch it before it leaves."
Nilani raised an eyebrow. "Avery, you're not even making sense. You don't take the bus to school."
Avery shrugged, trying to play it cool. "Oh, yeah, I must have gotten my wires crossed. Anyway, I'm going to be late for school, so I'll see you later, Mom."
Avery hurried out of the kitchen, leaving Nilani looking puzzled and concerned.
Lila and Remi's Encounter
As Remi walked to school, she noticed Lila Rose walking toward her. Lila's eyes narrowed as she approached Remi.
"Hey, Laurent," Lila said, her voice dripping with malice. "I see you're still trying to make a statement with that ridiculous outfit."
Remi rolled her eyes and ignored Lila, walking past her without a second glance.
Julian's Confrontation
Julian Styles sat at his desk, sketching in his notebook. His father, Harrison, stormed into the room, his face thunderous.
"What is this?" Harrison demanded, snatching the notebook from Julian's hands. "You're wasting your time with this... this... hobby."
Julian's eyes flashed with anger. "It's art, Father. And it's what I'm passionate about."
Harrison sneered. "Passion doesn't pay the bills, Julian. You need to focus on something worthwhile, like taking over the family business. You're going to be the CEO of Styles Corporation one day, not some starving artist."
Julian's face twisted in frustration, but he bit back his retort.
Asher and Remi's Encounter
As Remi walked into school, she collided with Asher Wallace in the hallway.
"Oh, sorry," Remi said, stepping back.
Asher smiled politely. "No worries. I'm Asher."
Remi nodded. "Remi. Nice to meet you."
The conversation was stilted, and they both quickly moved on, unsure of what to say to each other.
Remi and Avery's Conversation
In class, Remi leaned over to Avery and whispered, "You won't believe what happened to me this morning."
Avery's eyes sparkled with interest. "Try me."
Remi grinned. "I ran into Lila, and she made some snide comment about my outfit."
Avery giggled. "That's rich coming from Lila. What did you say to her?"
Remi shrugged. "I just ignored her. And then I had a weird conversation with Asher Wallace."
Avery raised an eyebrow. "Weird how?"
Remi made a face. "He was just really... polite. And awkward."
Avery burst out laughing. "That sounds hilarious."
Here is the revised scene:
Detention
After school, the seven students filed into the detention room, looking less than thrilled.
Principal Victoria stood at the front of the room, a stern expression on her face. "Welcome, everyone. I trust you're all ready to serve your detention."
The group reluctantly took their seats, exchanging wary glances.
"So, what's the plan here?" Asher asked, leaning back in his chair.
"We're going to sit here and stare at each other for an hour," Julian drawled.
Lila snorted. "How exciting."
Remi raised an eyebrow. "I'm sure it'll be a blast."
Caleb, who had been quiet until now, spoke up. "Hey, Asher, you think we'll get out of here early if we behave?"
Asher grinned. "Doubt it, Caleb. Principal Victoria doesn't exactly have a reputation for being lenient."
Just as it seemed like the conversation was going to devolve into bickering, a buzzing sound filled the room.
The Insider's message flashed on everyone's phones:
"Spotted: A certain someone's rehab stint didn't quite stick. Who's hiding a secret?"
The room fell silent as everyone stared at their phones.
"Who do you think it is?" Lila asked, her eyes scanning the room.
Asher shrugged. "No idea. But I'm sure we'll find out soon enough."
Avery spoke up, her voice calm. "You know, people go to rehab for all sorts of reasons. It's not always about drugs."
Lila's eyes narrowed. "Oh, really? And what do you know about rehab, Avery?"
Avery's expression remained neutral. "Just that it's not always what people assume."
Lila leaned forward, a sly smile spreading across her face. "You're being awfully defensive, Avery. Makes me wonder if you're hiding something."
Avery's eyes flashed with annoyance, but she kept her cool. "I'm just making a point, Lila."
Julian chimed in, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Oh, I'm sure Avery's just concerned about the welfare of rehab patients everywhere."
Ethan spoke up, his voice thoughtful. "We shouldn't be speculating about something we don't even know is true."
Remi nodded in agreement. "Yeah, let's just focus on getting through this detention."
As the detention came to a close, Remi turned to Avery and asked, "Hey, are you okay? You seemed a little... off back there."
Avery's smile was tight. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just... just ready to get out of here."
