There was an emergency faculty meeting so they could go home early. Some of her classmates were going to the mall but she needed to catch the school bus na pinaaga din ang schedule so it can bring home students like her early.  She was only 13 years old but already in Grade 10. She goes to a Catholic school and takes the school bus every day. She was homeschooled for a long time by her father and she took an equivalency exam to enter Grade 7 when she was only 10. She was way too young in her grade, wala sya gaanong kaibigan and she was also a bit of a recluse like her dad.  Her papa was Filipino-Italian Antonio Rossi, a famous painter, and sculptor.  Her mom was Sarah Pineda. Famous singer and actress.  They had a very unconventional family. Her dad stayed home and painted. He took care of Ally every day. While her mom was always away on concert tours. She will always be abroad and if in the country she will be busy with taping for shows on TV. She rarely comes home and when she is home she always shouts at her papa. She recalled one time her mom was home.  “She needs to be out there, Tony.” Malakas ang boses ng mommy nya. “She needs to see the world. She is couped up in this house. She doesn’t have friends. Sinong kalaro nya? Yung anak ng naglilinis ng bahay? My goodness.” She would normally not hear any replies from her papa, either he stayed silent or spoke softly.  “I am going to enroll her sa susunod na pasukan.”  Another pause.  “How will she learn if she is afraid to go out. She will go on a school bus so she sees more kids at hindi puro kayo lang ang nakikita nya.”  But her parents will always be sweet with each other when she was around. Ally can see that even when they fight when they are together, her papa loves it when her mommy was home. He would make Tortelloni or Ravioli. He made it for her on special occasions too but he never missed cooking for her mommy. She loved to daydream lalo at pag nasa school bus siya, she will be the last to be dropped off by the bus at sya ang pinakamalayo. It will stop in front of their gate then she will walk the hundred meters from the gate to their house. They have a cute little home at the end of the driveway. It was an open concept house with two bedrooms and a small library upstairs. It has an adjoining building that was used as her papa's workshop where he painted and sculpted and used to be their classroom too.  She jumped off from the last step of the bus to the ground.  “Oy! Dahan-dahan, hija” sabi ni Mang Jose. “Thank you po.” sagot nya naman sa matandang driver ng school bus.  “Pasok ka na.”  Mabilis nyang binuksan ang gate at ni-lock ulit. Kumaway sya sa matanda before she started running to the direction of the house.  She usually enters the house through her papa’s workshop because he will always be there but he wasn’t around. He left her something on the board, written in her Papa's clear and flowing penmanship. I have cities, but no houses, I have mountains, but no trees. I have water, but no fish. What am I? A riddle was left for her on the board! Means her dad has a gift for her. He would always leave her riddles to open their secret place and inside will be her gift.  She ran up to the library and went inside their secret place. She saw a gift inside. She quickly opened it. It was wrapped in brown paper that her papa usually wraps his paintings with. She tore the wrap off, and inside was a complete set of Kolinsky sable brushes. She squealed. She has been asking for these brushes from her papa. He always promised she will have it when she is good enough.  “Ssssshhhhhh. Stay quiet, Bella.”  She heard the soft voice of her dad.  “Papa, I solved your riddle.” she softly answered back.  “Good girl. Now, don’t talk and stay quiet.”  She can hear her dad’s voice raspy like he found it hard to talk.  She moved the cover of the peephole and she saw her dad lying on his stomach on the floor. Agad siyang kinabahan. Her papa had his eyes closed. She can only see half of his face.  “Papa.” she softly called again.  “Shhhhh. Don’t talk. Keep quiet. Be a good girl.” Her papa said in between gasps of air.  She didn't understand why her dad was lying down. Impit syang napaiyak while she kept looking at her papa on the floor.  “Papa, get up.”  “I can’t, Belle." He struggled to take a breath. "I want you to live your life happy. Forget about this and live on.”  “Papa, I’m scared.”  “Stay in there. Don’t come out.”  . . . Nagising sya when she heard heavy knocking downstairs. “Mr. Rossi! Mr. Rossi! Mga pulis po to.”  She remained quiet.  She looked through the peephole again and there was a pool of blood around her papa. His face was pale, almost grayish. Impit syang napaiyak at bumalik sa pasalampak na upo sa sahig. Keep quiet. Keep quiet. Paulit-ulit nyang sambit sa sarili.  She heard glass breaking downstairs and footsteps going up.  “Secure the area. Call in SOCO.”  . . .
