Battle for the Gift

845 Words
The immortal faction attacked at dawn. The first rays of sunlight had barely touched the horizon when the alarms sounded, their shrill cries cutting through the morning stillness. I woke to the sound of explosions and screaming, the compound shaking under the force of the assault. I grabbed my weapons and my medical bag, my heart pounding as I raced toward the chaos. The Eternal Legion had come in full force, their numbers overwhelming, their intent deadly. The battle for the Shadow Gift had begun in earnest. Defend the inner circle! Asher shouted, his voice carrying across the compound as he shifted into his powerful wolf form. His body rippled and changed, his muscles swelling, his claws extending, his eyes blazing with golden fury. Protect the wounded! Protect the children! Do not let them reach the medical tents! I shifted too, my body responding to the call of battle. But I did not abandon my medical bag. I had learned long ago that healing was as important as fighting. I grabbed it before joining the fight, slinging it over my shoulder as I ran toward the front lines. Lucas fought beside us, his own powers flaring as he took down enemy after enemy. The three of us worked together like never before, our movements synchronized, our instincts aligned. We were no longer three individuals with complicated histories. We were a unit, a family, fighting for our survival. Soren's powers played a key role in the battle. I created energy shields that protected entire groups of fighters, the glowing barriers deflecting enemy attacks and giving our warriors time to regroup. I used bursts of strength to take down strong enemies, my fists glowing with concentrated power as I punched through their defenses. The Gift flowed through me like a river, powerful and exhilarating. But each use drained me more, and the side effects grew worse with every surge. The numbness crept in, cold and insidious. The visions flickered at the edges of my consciousness, threatening to overwhelm me. I pushed through it, forcing myself to focus on the battle, on the people who needed me. Stay close to me, Asher growled through the mind link, his voice urgent and protective. I will not lose you. Not today. Not ever. Stay within my sight. I am fine, I replied, my voice steady despite the exhaustion pulling at my limbs. We have to protect Liam. He is in the medical tents with the other children. They broke through the outer defenses. They are heading toward him. During the chaos, a betrayal from within was revealed. One of Asher's trusted advisors a wolf named Gregor who had been with the Iron Fangs for decades turned on us. He attacked from behind, his claws raking across the back of a young warrior who had been fighting bravely. The Gift belongs to the immortals! Gregor shouted, his eyes wild with madness. It was never meant for wolves like us! We are unworthy! The Legion will reward me for delivering you to them! Asher confronted him in a fierce fight, his claws meeting Gregor's in a clash of fury and betrayal. You betrayed your own pack! Asher roared, his voice shaking with rage. Your own family! For what? For promises from our enemies? Gregor laughed, his eyes gleaming with fanaticism. The Legion understands the true power of the Gift. They will use it to reshape the world. And I will be at their side. The battle raged on around us, the sounds of fighting filling the air. I fought my way toward the medical tents, my heart pounding with fear. I saw Liam in danger as enemies broke through toward the children's ward. A group of Legion soldiers had breached the defenses, their weapons raised, their eyes fixed on the young wolves huddled together in terror. I made a sacrificial choice. I used all my power to create a massive shield around him, pouring every ounce of energy I had into the barrier. The shield flared to life, glowing brighter than anything I had ever created. It surrounded Liam and the other children, protecting them from the attack. But the effort left me badly weakened and exposed. I felt the Gift drain from me, leaving me hollow and empty. I stumbled, my vision swimming, my body giving out beneath me. Asher reached me just in time, his arms catching me as I collapsed. Soren! he shouted, his voice filled with terror. Soren, stay with me! Look at me! I tried to speak, but my voice failed me. The last thing I saw before darkness claimed me was his face, his eyes filled with love and fear. I had saved Liam. I had protected the children. But the cost was high. Higher than I had ever imagined. The Gift had demanded everything I had, and I had given it without hesitation. Now I lay in Asher's arms, the battle raging around us, the fate of the pack hanging in the balance. I had done everything I could. The rest was in their hands.
