Chapter 7: Alexis' POV

939 Words
I was… shocked, to say the least.      One minute Sofia, the human, was standing in front of me, looking very nervous, and of course beautiful. The next, Sofia the wolf was standing in front of me, growling and watching me like I was a piece of meat.      I stepped toward her slowly, and she backed away, ears flat against her head, snarling viciously. But I wasn’t scared. I sat in front of her and waited for her to come to me, humming softly. When she didn’t, I smiled softly at her.      “It’s okay, Sofia. It’s just me.” I spoke softly, so as not to startle her. Her ears perked up and I smiled wider. “Yeah, you know me, sweetheart. I won’t hurt you.” I kept my voice soft even as she stepped toward me slowly, the growl slowly quieting.      I reached up as she approached and scratched behind her ears, and that pleasure sound I loved so much rumbled in her chest. Her eyes seemed happy and relieved as she met my gaze, and I saw a wolfy smile break the serious lines of her muzzle. I smiled warmly and hugged her, my arms barely making it around her thick neck. She stood about my height, maybe a little taller, on all fours when I was standing. She was massive. And even in this form, she was beautiful.      I pet her soft fur, smiling, and she nosed me up, turning her back to me and looking over her shoulder at me. It took me a moment to realize what she wanted, but then I climbed slowly onto her back, leaning forward and wrapping my arms around her neck to hold on.      She took off at a run, her muscles rippling beneath her fur. We fell into a steady rhythm, and I smiled, burying my face in her fur. The pleasure sound continued to rumble in her chest as she ran, and I got the sense we were turning around through the forest, heading back to the hideout. I nuzzled her fur as we reached the cemetery, then slid off her back and waited.      It took a long minute for her to shift back, but when she did, I ran to her and jumped into her arms, kissing her deeply. She caught me with no problems and kissed me back, her hands on my lower back as my legs wrapped around her waist, my hands in her hair.      I never wanted to let her go, not after we had just shared such deep secrets with each other. I couldn’t admit my feelings to her yet, or myself. We hadn’t even known each other a full day, but I already felt myself falling for her, and it scared me.      I pulled away from the kiss, breathing deeply, and she looked at me, confused.      “What’s wrong?” She asked me quietly.      I shook my head. “We’re moving… Way too fast,” I breathed, resting my forehead against hers.      She chuckled softly and shook her head. “Actually, this feels too slow for me, and I don’t really understand how it could be faster. But… For my kind, when we find our…” She trailed off, and that piqued my interest.      “Your what?” I asked softly.      She let out a shaky breath. “Our mates. When werewolves find their mates, they claim them as early as they can. And you, Alexis… You’re my mate.” Her voice grew softer when she said the last three words, and I smiled softly.      “That would explain why I feel so drawn to you… Why I don’t want to be away from you.”      She blinked and looked at me curiously. “You feel that too?”      I nodded, smiling warmly. “That, and I feel safe, and loved, and warm, and… wanted.” It hurt to say that last word, but when she pressed her lips to mine, that hurt went away instantly.      I felt her tense slightly as someone approached us, and I groaned in frustration. But rather than letting me down again, she looked over my shoulder at the person.      “What is it, Jenny?” She growled. I huffed in frustration. This girl had a bad tendency to interrupt us.      Her voice was quiet, and she sounded hurt. “I just… Wanted to see if you had read the book yet… But I see you didn’t even need it…”      I felt her growl beneath me. “Go back inside, Jenny. I will not deal with your s**t right now!” Her voice raised slightly, and I smiled down at her.      I felt Jenny running off, and turned Sofia’s head back to face me, leaning down and smashing my lips against hers. She met my intensity and growled beneath my again, turning and pressing me against a tree as she moved down and roughly kissed my neck. I tilted my head back, baring my neck to her. But she stopped herself, and looked up at me, her eyes intense and pleading.      “Alexis, you are my mate. I can explain that to you… But I need to know… If this is something you’re okay with… So I have to ask you… Will you accept me as yours?”      I didn’t even hesitate for a second. “Yes.”
