She was beautiful.
When she smiled, when she blushed, when she slept, no matter what she was doing, Alexis was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. I had needed her so badly, and she seemed to need me just as much. I kissed her forehead as she slept, her head on my chest, and I saw a small smile play at her lips. I glanced down at my half naked form. Only my sports bra and underwear remained, but thankfully I had taken control before she could take advantage of the missing clothes. I couldn’t afford for her to have another effect on me until she saw my wolf, until she knew the full me.
I pulled the blankets up to cover us and she snuggled closer to me. I stroked her hair softly, humming gently. I felt her heart through her chest, and the beat was soothing to me, just like everything else about her.
Eventually, I fell asleep as well, and my dreams ran wild. I watched Alexis seemingly transform, horns sprouting from her head and a pointed tail extending behind her. She flicked it as she stared at me, her eyes now black, and lifted into the air, hovering so she was at an even height with me. The dream shifted suddenly, and I was running through the trees, feeling someone on my back. I glanced back and saw her, clutching my golden fur as she smiled down at my wolf. I let out a howl of joy, and the dream shifted again, showing a pack of wolves running around me, being careful to keep behind as I led them through the trees. Alexis was on my back again, and the feeling of her hands in my fur spurred me forward faster than I ever thought possible. The dream shifted again, and I saw pale figures running at us with inhuman speed. The wolves around me snarled, and one of the figures managed to get passed the fighting that was around me, lunging for the weight on my back.
I woke with a start, snarling and pulling her closer to me roughly, eyes frantically searching the room. Sunlight was streaming in from the skylight above, and the sudden movement jerked Alexis awake. She yelped in surprise while I held her tightly, growling low, threatening whatever imaginary creature I thought I had seen. But there was nothing, just her and I lying in my bed.
I shook my head and laid back again, holding her tightly. I could feel the confusion rolling off of her in waves.
“Sofia…?” She asked quietly, and I thought I heard fear in her voice. My face twisted in pain, and she reached up, cupping my cheek gently. “What happened?”
I shook my head again. “Nothing… Just a nightmare…” My voice was hoarse as I looked down at her. Her eyes were filled with confusion and fear. I closed my eyes tightly, feeling guilty I had frightened her.
She snuggled into me and kissed my chest softly. “It’s okay, I’m here,” she whispered soothingly. I was calmed in an instant, the sound of her voice silencing the fear I had felt in that dream.
I leaned down and kissed her softly. “Thank goodness for that,” I murmured, keeping an arm wrapped around her waist tightly as I brushed her hair away from her face.
She smiled and kissed my hand ever so lightly. My heart skipped a beat and I pulled her up to me. She used the momentum and rolled on top of me, straddling my hips. I raised an eyebrow and she shook her head, leaning down and kissing me before I could question anything. I rested my hands on her hips and my rumble of pleasure started up again. She took my face in her hands, biting my lip softly, and I shuddered slightly.
I felt her smirk against my lips as she reached down toward my sports bra, but I quickly flipped us over before she could pull it off and pinned her hands above her head. My breathing was already deep and uneven, and I rested my forehead against hers. She pouted, confused and hurt. I smiled softly and kissed the tip of her nose.
“There’s something you have to see first,” I whispered, pulling away and climbing off the bed. I went to the bathroom, grabbing a fresh set of clothes on the way, and shut the door, locking it behind me before jumping in the shower.
I was quick in washing my hair and body, and was out again in just five minutes, changing into the fresh clothes and pulling the door open once more. She was already changed and sitting on the bed, looking through a book.
No… Not a book. The very book Jenny had brought in the night before. I hadn’t even had a chance to read it yet, but I knew it was more research about werewolves’ mates. I crossed the room in two quick strides and snatched the book out of her hands, growling.
“That’s not yours”
She glared up at me. “What are you?” She demanded.
“I could ask you the same question. I saw what you did last night. No human has those kinds of abilities.”
She frowned and looked down at her hands, which were resting in her lap. We were both waiting for the other to answer, but I was far too stubborn to give in first. Finally, she spoke.
“I’m… a daemon…” Her voice was barely audible, even with my acute sense of hearing. I watched her, stunned. When she finally looked up at me, she seemed scared, not of me, but of my reaction. I realized she was afraid I would send her away.
I tossed the book onto the desk and kneeled in front of her, taking her hands in mine. “Okay,” I said simply.
She stared at me, shocked. “Okay…?”
“Yeah, okay. So you’re not human. Big deal. Humans are boring anyway.” I smiled softly.
Her eyes lit up and she pulled me onto the bed with her, resting her head on my shoulder. I kissed the top of her head softly, and she squeezed my hands.
After a moment, she pulled back and looked up at me. “What about you…?”
I sighed heavily and shook my head. “That’s what I need to show you… There’s something special about you, Alexis, and I want you to know all of me. Even the parts I’m not… Proud of.”
She frowned but nodded, and I stood, pulling her up with me. I led her to the door, and walked quickly through the hideout to get to the entrance, avoiding all contact with everyone except, of course, Jack.
He didn’t say a word as we left, seeing the urgent expression on my face. I didn’t stop until we were out of the cemetery and in the forest. When I did finally stop and turn to face Alexis, she looked so confused, but I knew that would go away soon.
I stepped away from her, which she didn’t like one bit. She reached out for me but I shook my head. I took a deep, steadying breath, and only then did I realize that I was terrified of hurting her in my wolf form. I pushed that fear to the back of my mind and let the change take me, grunting in pain as my bones broke and reformed, golden fur growing everywhere and enveloping my clothes, which melded into my body. My face grew a snout, my nose sticking out at the end and I felt my ears shift upward and elongate. My arms and legs grew paws as I dropped to all fours, and I felt my tail grow out my backside.
Once the change was complete, I looked up at her through my wolf’s eyes, a low growl sounding in my throat, and I waited for her reaction.
