Daniel’s pov

“Um… So tell me what happened, how did you find out all these and why did Aiden and your father go to Marcus!” she asks me after some seconds in silence.

She is still sitting on my lap, our heads are inches away from each other’s and we are looking each other in the eyes. We are already calmer, her confession was like a deep breath full of oxygen for me and she is smiling in sympathy.

Do you know what?

This woman is my angel and more than this! I regret living away from her, everything was done way too wrong and now I am more ready and stronger than ever, I will do my best not only to kill that bastard but also prove my love to her.

“Daniel, I need to know… Are you ready to tell me?” she asks watching me frozen and I nod coming back to reality with a forced smile.

The worst part is over anyway, now I have to tell her some details about how everything happened and I took the decisions I did…

“Everything began when I came back from that battle with the rogues and you saw me so furious… I had listened to some of them saying that the Queen was again nowhere to be found and they had to leave so I understood that I wasn’t the target but you were. That’s why I told them to keep you inside, I didn’t want you to meet them and get frustrated or make you feel bad. I wanted to know everything and deal with it without you knowing but… You had your plans like always!” I say calmly and she smiles blushing shyly.

“You know me… I was worried about you and you were late and then Landon lied with no success and I saw red!” she mutters in the same tone and I nod chuckling.

She has a point, Landon screwed it up! He can’t lie to her, he is getting panicked but he can lie to me. This friend of mine is something and I should feel hurt for his preference to Diana but I can’t, I am happy he loves her so much, I understand him!

“As I was saying, that night I interrogated the rogues’ commander and the other men some other rogues. When he told me that he would tell me everything I asked from everyone to come, I wanted them to listen to him as well and then he told us about you, everything I told you a while ago about the King. He knew about you, he was the one behind the hunter’s attack back at your pack one year ago and he has been attacking us because he wanted you here! It wasn’t difficult for us to understand that your parents should have told him about us, they knew it when you had left from the palace, they had tried to… Do what they did because of us so… I gathered all the men in my office, I needed to talk to them!” I continue without her interrupting me and she shakes her head in understanding while narrowing her eyes in the end.

Ops, and now she just knows or she has her suspicions about what happened next, I know this look of hers and my Queen is smart and I am surprised I am not so worried or nervous.

“So, this is why Aiden went to Marcus with your dad, right?” she asks in acknowledge and I nod.

“Are you curious to know what happened next?” I ask and she caresses my hair sighing heavily.

Her expression is getting more serious now, she is not mad, she is just feeling a bit uncomfortably and I know why.

Marcus took part in everything, I mean he allowed her parents to hurt her, he knew and never stopped them and the way he was running the pack was awful, I had no idea about it, neither had my dad and I am sure she has a feeling that there are many other things she has no idea about and…

She is right! Even I was shocked, not to mention my father and even Aiden that was Marcus’ Beta for these last years, we had all realized nothing!

That bastard was a very ‘lucky’ dog but he is not anymore!

“I think I am, it is time to know the entire truth!” she states after a while and I sign in agreement, kiss her forehead and take a deep breath.

This is not going to be very pleasing for both of us, she is going to get shocked but we can make it.

Third person’s pov

The two men dragged Marcus in his office at the pack house and the door closed from another man that was going to stay out to make sure that no one would listen to what was about to happen.

The whole pack was gathered right out of the pack house under Jonathan’s orders and the incident that had taken place before had happened in front of everyone.

He wanted them all to see Marcus’ punishment or better a part of it!

They had all observed Jonathan and Aiden giving a very good lesson to Marcus and no one dared to stop them or feel sorry for his ‘Alpha’. Not even his most trusted men felt sympathy for him but they were smiling satisfied with the turn things had taken!

Aiden and Jonathan had ‘fought’ with Marcus, they had bitted and hit him seriously for lots of time and he was unable to defend himself, he had gotten humiliated and that was only a small part of his punishment specifically ordered from Daniel himself.

And now that they were done they had taken him to his office because it was about time to take some answers, they had lots of questions and he had to explain to them everything!

Jonathan was sitting on Marcus’ seat behind his office with his eyes locked on Marcus that was kneeled on the floor some meters opposite of him with the two men of Daniel’s right behind him. He was smiling pleased and his appearance was perfect, like nothing had happened. He was always a very tough and strong man but his image was worthy or admiration.

Aiden from the other side was standing right next to Jonathan with his hands behind his back and a big proud smile on his face. His shirt’s sleeves were folded to his elbows and his hair was a bit messy but everything else was like the moment he had sat his foot at the pack.

Marcus was kneeled with his head bended scared of looking at them even for a second. His lips were bleeding from Aiden’s punches and kicks, his hair was full of blood from the deep wounds from Jonathan’s hits, his shirt was almost ripped into pieces covered with blood with his trousers in a better condition and he was full of cuts, wounds, bruises and scratches all over his body. He was bearably breathing or keeping his eyes open and he was shaking from pain.

He was a wreck and not an Alpha…

“And now it is time for the second part…” Jonathan began after clearing his throat with a firm look and Aiden groaned impatient.

The two men behind Marcus smirked rubbing their palms ready to hit him if he was going to show any sign of resistance or hesitation and Jonathan leaned forward and placed his hands on the desk.

“I want to know everything about Mila and Mason Rollins!” he ordered and Aiden’s eyes darkened more with his wolf growling in his mind.

“I… I will tell you everything, really!” Marcus whispered immediately gasping and lifted up his head just a bit to take a breath.

“Talk!” Aiden said shortly.

“Mason was my best friend since childhood, we were always together except from when we had to leave to go at the colleges we had to get trained for our duties… Everything began then! He met someone, I don’t know who, he never told me details about him but he was one of the most trusted men of the rogues’ king! That man convinced Mason to become one of them… He agreed, he came back when he was done and he told me what had happened, he had a plan and he also asked from me to help him and join the rogues’ king’s side secretly…” Marcus began and stopped to breathe again while trembling more than before.

Jonathan growled as back then the rogues’ king was the one he had killed some years later and his hands turned into fists. He hated that man till death because he was very cruel, because of him many innocent people of his had found death and he was feeling hurt. He always loved his people, he was a kind and caring King.

“And next?” he asks through his teeth doing his best to control his temper.

“At the beginning I denied, I was scared but soon Mason convinced me because he explained to me what we had to do… We were going to be his spies under cover, we were always close to you and we could give him some information about the army, the plans and the kingdom’s general condition. He was going to pay us if we were helpful and so it happened… Mason was one of the best fighters and you trusted him and then Mila that had met him and she had agreed to join our side. You had been calling them to ask for their opinion about the rogues’ attacks at some packs and they were reporting to the king about everything!” Marcus replied and sighed heavily from nervousness.

“s**t!” Jonathan screamed slamming his fists on the office the next second and Aiden placed his hand on Jonathan’s right shoulder in sympathy.

He was calmer than Jonathan till that moment and he was more curious about the continuing because it had to do with his sister and him…

“They and you were the traitors and he had been paying you for that… We got it… But the old rogues’ king died, Jonathan killed him!” he said after a while and Marcus nodded.

“Yes… His son was not old enough and his existence was a secret for you but we knew. This is why we preferred to be discreet. We wanted to wait for the right moment, we knew that Daniel would be an easier target when he would become the King because he would be younger with no experience. This is why those attacks had been happening about five years ago when Mason and Mila came to the palace to meet you and give you their opinions!” Marcus replied and Aiden growled feeling his rage getting bigger.

“Did you know about Daniel and Diana? Did they?” he asked trembling and Marcus cleared his throat lowering his gaze even more.

“I had no idea, they told me after they came back and she was not with them. They told me about her being his mate, they had to get rid of her, he had rejected her and they knew she had to die because this would weaken Daniel although he didn’t want her. You know how it works… If she was dead then Daniel wouldn’t have been able to be the strongest he could, it would be an easy opponent and… Also, if the rogues’ king would have killed Daniel and she was alive then the Kingdom would have hopes. She is the rightful Queen and after Daniel she is the next in line for the throne!”

Aiden exhaled harshly feeling the blood in his veins boiling and Jonathan growled. It wasn’t easy for them to listen to Marcus saying all those things against the rightful King and Queen but they couldn’t kill Marcus, they had to know more…

“So you had no idea, they informed you when they came back without Diana and you lied about her death, you threatened the pack and you wrote that she died from rogues when she run away after they had arrived!” Aiden said through his teeth without breathing and Marcus nodded.

“Exactly but I had no idea what had happened or where she was… They had gone to find her body but they didn’t or they lied to me as well… Maybe they didn’t want me to know because I was too worried and scared after that. I mean, she was the rightful Queen and I felt guilty but I couldn’t stop. I guess they didn’t trust me after that but I have no idea what happened next…” he said quickly shaking his head in desperation ready to cry.

“And why didn’t you come to tell us? Why didn’t you tell Aiden when he came back? You felt guilty but you kept on covering them!” Jonathan asked one step away from attacking him.

“Because the king had called to tell me that… He would attack my pack to kill me… He had his suspicions, he could see that I wasn’t willing to help him, I had also had a fight with Mason, I had told him to leave me out of everything and I wouldn’t open my mouth!” Marcus muttered panicked and Aiden walked to him in hurry, kneeled and grabbed him from the neck tightly.

He had had enough, they knew everything, the puzzle’s pieces were on their places, he had nothing else to know! And even though Marcus had excused himself saying that he was a victim, Aiden knew how coldhearted he was. He didn’t have anything to feel sorry for him about because he had been running his pack selfishly, he had been threatening everyone, he had never protected him or Diana or even any other pack member.

“Don’t think we are going to soften with you or that we are done here… The King is not generous when it comes to his Queen and so do we! So… You are not dying but…” he said and paused as they listened to a knock at the door and Jonathan smirked standing up.

Aiden smiled at Marcus wickedly and tightened his hold so much that Marcus began couching and once Jonathan stood behind Aiden he signed to one of the men to open the door and fixed his shirt’s collar.

The man opened the door immediately and a young, tall man with black, short hair, elegant suit and board shoulders walked in with a calm yet sweet expression, stopped next to Aiden and bowed to Jonathan.

“My King… Thank you for calling me, I had to know!” the young man said and Aiden left Marcus fall on the floor breathless, stood up and gave him his hand smiling warmly.

“I am happy to see you again Aiden and I am sorry for everything! If I knew then…” he began while having a handshake with him and Aiden tapped his arm in understanding.

“I know, don’t worry! I and Diana are never going to blame you! I am happy for you! Welcome back to where you belong!” Aiden said and Marcus managed to lift up his head and gasped like he was looking at a ghost.

The young man smiled proudly when their eyes met and Jonathan tapped his back.

“You…” Marcus exclaimed shocked and the man smirked.

“Nice to meet you again… ‘Father’!”

~present~

Daniel’s pov

“Marcus’ son is the Alpha now? Really?” Diana asks me surprised.

Yeah about it… I talked to Aiden, I wanted his opinion because he knows him quite well and he assured me that Marcus’ son is a great young man, kind and very loyal to us. I read his file as well, I called him, I learned that Marcus had been abusing him too and he didn’t want him at the pack, he had no idea about Marcus, Mason and Mila’s actions and I don’t know why but I trusted him immediately.

“Yes, he is! Do you remember him?” I ask her nervously and she nods quickly.

“Yes but we weren’t living at the pack house, we had our own, he was older than me and we weren’t talking or… My parents weren’t allowing me to talk to anyone and I had no relationships with him!” she says thoughtfully and I shake my head in understanding.

“And what about Marcus then? Where is he?” she asks next and I smile wickedly.

You know, I thought of it very much before I take my decision and I don’t regret it at all! Killing him would be easy for him, he wouldn’t suffer and this is the last thing I want after what he has done…

I need him to pay every day and night for everything and the solution was only one!

“He is an Omega at the Ancient Stone Pack!” I say proudly and she blinks her eyes while opening her mouth.

“Are you f*****g kidding me? He… Oh my Goddess! Daniel, you are a devil! This is going to be a nightmare for him!” she exclaims quite excited and I laugh.

What can I say?!

I am not generous to anyone and Marcus has done things that make me very coldhearted, I feel no sympathy and I am glad that Diana agrees with me. You see, this pack is one of the oldest there are, they have stricter rules, they are my relatives so they are loyal to us, they are one of the strongest and they agreed to ‘accept’ him, not kill him and make his life a living hell! He is totally humiliated now and there is no way he runs away or tries to cause us more problems again…

“It is the least he deserves for his actions, a whole pack was living under his needs scared of talking for years and what he did to you… Damn, let’s just forget about him because I am able to go and kill him and then he won’t suffer at all!” I say under my breath and she caresses my cheek landing a kiss on my forehead.

And now comes the next part that has to do with her parents… She took it very well till now and I am so relieved but I know she is going to be hurt now and my heart is already aching.

I don’t want her in pain, this is killing me.

“Um… Yes?” she says timidly in suspicion after a while probably watching my nervous expression and I stiffen.

FUCK MY LIFE!

“I have to tell you about your parents, I mean what I decided! Marcus has no idea where they are, we have checked on everything and we found nothing… And I… I am trying to find them! I am sorry but I have to catch them Diana, they need to…”

“Die.” She says preventing me from saying it and I bite my lower lip waiting for her reaction.

She sighs, closes her eyes and buries her hands in my hair. I feel her body shaking slightly above mine and our foreheads touch each other’s. We stay in silence for a while, I have my eyes open worried about her and she sniffles moving a bit on my lap.

Yes, she is in pain, she doesn’t want them dead although they have caused her so much pain and I can’t stop myself from admiring her kindness even though I don’t agree with her in this.

“It is my fault, I shouldn’t have left them go! I could kill them or let you kill them but I didn’t and now… I had no idea Daniel, I am sorry, I know how much you are trying and you are worried and this is my fault! Now I know I was wrong but… I couldn’t kill them, something didn’t feel right about it, I don’t know why.” She whispers overwhelmed and I smile melancholically capping her hot face.

She opens her eyes that are wet from the first tears and looks at me apologetically. She is melting my heart… And I have nothing to blame her about, I know she had good intentions, she had no idea about them!

“Love, it is alright! You did what you felt, I can’t get mad, I understand, really!” I say and kiss her forehead as she is sniffling.

“Now I guess this explains a lot… They hated me and Aiden because they never wanted responsibilities, they were too busy to help that jerk and… They were breaking out their anger and stress on us but how did they know about us Daniel? I am sure you are saying the truth and they were not there so… What on earth happened?” she asks with wonder and I kiss her forehead again in confusion.

I have no idea how they found out! There was no one there with us, I would have smelled anything and anyone! I am trying to figure out how that happened but nothing comes in my mind, only they will be able to tell us about it!

“I don’t know baby but we will know, I promise, we will catch them, yes?” I say forcing a smile and she nods nervously while burying her face in my neck.

My skin shudders immediately, I feel her breath on the crock of my neck and I stiffen overwhelmed. I tighten my hold around her arms and kiss her hair some times. She is in tension now, I feel it, even my heart is beating in a strange way mimicking hers.

“I would like to ask you a favor… I want to do something together, you and me… I need it!” she says after some seconds and I smile touched.

The fact that she wants us to do something together is new for us, she is really trying to open up to me and I feel amazing! I needed to feel it, I had to see her putting some efforts like me, we are more determinate than before.

“Yes?! Anything you want!” I say softly and she pulls back, makes me puppy eyes and caresses my shoulders with the top of her fingers making me sigh heavily.

She is going to kill me like this! We are playing with fire!

“Could we go and see the rogues’ commander? And before you deny or get frustrated please think that he won’t touch me, we will be together and I won’t go close to him! I just want to talk to him in person, I don’t know why but… I need to!” she says looking at me in the eyes with hope and I freeze.

I think of it for some seconds that feel like weeks for me and months for Diana, I can see it in her eyes, she is worried about my answer and she has the need more than I had imagined.

The truth is that before this talk I would have denied it immediately, I don’t want her close to any rogue there is, I am worried and over possessive, I know it, I have no problem to admit it because she is my mate and I can die for her, I want her safe although I trust her and I know she is strong and tough but…

Now…

Yes, I know! It is going to happen what makes Diana happy so…

“Alright Your Royal Highness, we will go to meet him together at the afternoon! Yes?” I say finally and she blinks her eyes surprised not really waiting such an answer for me.

I understand, it is a huge shock even for me!

“Really?” she exclaims one step away from screaming and I nod laughing.

“Oh! Daniel, you are the best! Thank you, it’s… Amazing!” she says and kisses my cheek giving me a mini heart attack.

I am in heaven!

“I told you, I want you to be happy! If this makes you happy then I can’t say no! Especially when you are asking it in this way!” I say with meaning and she blushes hiding her face again in my bare neck.

We stay like this in silence and I close my eyes. I listen to all the nature’s noises and our heartbeats and smell her scent mixed with the trees, soil, water, flowers and other animals’ scents and purr.

Everything feels perfect for some time and Diana seems calm but she suddenly sighs harshly, I feel her scent changing, she is trembling slightly, stiffens and it is easy for me to understand that something is different…

And I guess I know what happened, mate’s instinct!

It’s about them, again!

“You are hurt, aren’t you? Are you thinking of them?” I ask whispering and she nods timidly still hiding her face.

“Would you like to tell me what are you thinking about exactly?”

Diana’s pov

And when he asks me my heart stops beating for some seconds.

It’s not so much that I am surprised or I mad but I think he has to know, I can tell him some things now, I am used to it, I have talked about it so many times and I am able of doing it again although this is going to be the first time I am going to talk about it with Daniel.

I don’t know why but I feel positively about it, he cares and… That’s what I always wanted, okay he has gotten late some years but it still counts because he looks honest!

So, I have taken my decision already and Miss Destiny agrees as well, not that I had any doubt about it but I am just saying…

“I think you have to know, you are right!” I say nervously and pull back to see him frozen quite amused.

I giggle watching his funny reaction and this enlightens the mood even for just a second because I quickly stop and wrap my hands around his neck. I give him a short, timid look and he turns serious but still supportive.

I had never thought about it but I am happy now, I unconsciously wanted him to know about them!

“Um… You are right, I feel hurt and do you know why?” I ask ready to start the discussion and he signs for me to continue.

“Because I needed their love, I wanted to feel it! They brought me in this world, their blood runs in my veins and I could always feel the connection between me and them! You know how it feels like, they are the reason I am alive, I mean… You understand what I mean, they are my ‘parents’ either I like it or not! And… It breaks my heart that I have taken no love from them and especially from my mom! I have felt the father’s love, Gideon gave it to me unconditionally and out of every possible imagination so I don’t miss Mason but… With Mila… I needed her Daniel, I really did and I never had her!” I say and wipe the first tears that appear on my eyes.

Daniel is way too silent, he is breathing slightly with his full attention on me and I can feel him sharing my emotions. He is not even moving, he is staring at me like a statue and his behavior now is stealing my heart because he is paying attention, it matters him!

“You are very lucky you had your parents’ love Daniel! I am happy for you because I want nobody feel how I and Aiden have felt! You know, most of the people think that some things are facts but nothing is a fact in this life and the same thing happens with our parents’ love! Victoria and Jonathan never left you and you have to be thankful, they never left your side no matter want! And also this is one reason I love Gideon more than anything in this world! He is my God, my universe, my life starts and ends with him because he gave me everything and I was a stranger to him! He never complained, seemed annoyed or angry! He was always patient, sweet, caring, generous and full of love! Do you understand what I mean?” I ask trembling and he nods with his eyes filled with tears.

He got emotional! Look what a sensitive man he can be… Another pleasing surprise from him that eases my pain somehow.

“I understand and maybe… I owe my parents a big ‘thank you’ and lots of apologies! I have hurt them and they never left me… And I do agree with you when it comes to Gideon! I adore and respect this man more than you can imagine!” he says weakly and I caress his cheek in sympathy.

“And also… I believe you have the right to know what they had been doing to us! We decided to talk so I want you to be informed. If you want of course!” I say next and bite my lower lip staring at him in the eyes in agony.

He shakes his head in agreement slowly with a worried full of pain look and I smile weakly.

Okay, I am glad he is ready…

“They were always distant and cold, angry and unwilling of trying to approach us, we never felt any sign of love, we had no caress, no kiss, no hug, no touch! When we were too young they were just screaming, roaring and breaking everything around us to release their anger but gradually they changed! They became violent and most of the times I was their target, I was the younger one and Aiden was the first in line for their title. They always wanted only one kid, I was a mistake, that’s what they told me some times… Anyway… Aiden was always my hero, my protector, my rock!” I say and stop to take a deep breath with my heart tightening more.

“He was getting in front of you, right?” Daniel asks with a voice that breaks and I nod emotional.

“Yes and it was enough for them to get even angrier and hit only him and not me! They wanted to punish him for protecting me but Den was strong, he was never crying in front of them, he was challenging them in his own way and when they were done I was always getting hysteric! I was his nurse… I was taking care of him the most I could and he was smiling proudly although he was in pain! He loved my attention and I was thinking that I was accomplishing something great!” I continue and laugh melancholically remembering his expression and my scolding when he wasn’t following my advices.

“He was the best big brother, right?” he asks me wiping some of his tears and I shake my head immediately excited.

“The best! And we were sleeping together, he was always hugging me to sleep because I was scared of them coming to hit me and he was telling me stories and jokes to make me relax! I was in love with his behavior and that’s why I was waking up before him to have his clothes ready, I was covering him because he was more energetic even in his sleep and we were safe together! When he had to leave, he wanted me to go with him but it wasn’t possible, he left by force, I stayed alone and…” I say and pause gasping trying to hide my frustration and pain.

“The nightmare began! They were free to bite me, hit me, cut me and punish me in any way you can imagine! They were locking me in my room without food or water, I was allowed to go to school but most of the days I couldn’t go because of the bruises and wounds I had, lots of times I had passed out from weakness and some others I was sick because of the cold water I was taking my bath. I was also their slave, I was doing everything in the house and I couldn’t sleep because of the pain, sometimes I had panic attacks as well…”

“Oh my God… I… Just…” Daniel says interrupting me ready to break into sobbing and falls in my embrace devastated.

I kiss the top of his head, caress his back and Destiny purrs not enjoying Daniel’s pain but being emotional because of his sensitivity. He has feelings for us, I am sure that if I am in pain one time then he is ten times more than me. He feels guilty at some point, I guess because he thinks he had to be more observing when I was here with them… He would have been able to stop it somehow but nothing of these happened and it’s fine because I met my dad!

“It is fine Daniel, don’t cry now! It is over, all these made me who I am, I have no problem, relax!” I say in a try to make him feel better and he tightens his hold around me so much that I stop breathing but I can’t stop him.

His heart is breaking and so does mine!

“I am sorry! I promise, I am and…”

“Don’t be Daniel! You didn’t choose any thing of these! They were abusing me, they forced me to come with them, they wanted to get rid of me and believe me… It was just the opportunity they needed to kill me, they wanted one more reason, they had been planning this!” I cut him off and he kisses my neck, shoulder and cheek lots of times in desperation.

I think this is a redemption for both of us in a weird way. We are getting to know each other like this in essence, this is more important than anything else and I feel great, this is surprisingly pleasing!

“I don’t know how you made it, I… I told you again before… Thank you for being alive and here with me! I don’t know what else to say, I am so…” he whispers with pauses and kisses my forehead with tears falling from his eyes like rivers.

“I know, it is alright now! I have no problem although back then I was thinking that I was getting crazy and I was losing my mind!” I say softly and cap his face with him confused from my last words.

“What do you mean?” he asks breathless and I stiffen awkwardly.

This is the first time I am going to talk about it! Not even my dad knows because I was ashamed but I have told Daniel so many that I can say this one as well…

“I have no clue as to what was happening to me, maybe it was because I was in pain and overwhelmed all the time but some nights in my sleep I was thinking I had been listening to a woman crying and I was feeling someone caressing my hair… When I was waking up there was nobody there and I was alone again… Anyway, my mind was playing with me as well I guess! Just like the star in that draw for Libby and…” I say nervously ashamed and stop.

Everything faints for a while as some images from the past appear in front of me and Destiny freezes shocked like me.

I look at Daniel that is staring at me panicked, my hands are shaking, I start sweating and a sudden pain on my head makes me gasp as the realization hits me.

I know from where I had seen this sign of star before and it wasn’t from Samantha’s necklace…

It was… Damn it!

This means that… She has something to do with…

“Diana what is it? You are pale!” Daniel asks scared bringing me back to reality and I sigh heavily.

“Daniel… I just remembered from where I knew this star!” I say doddering and he opens his eyes widely in impatience.

“From where?”

“From some papers in my parents’ office!”
