We slid into the hot water, sitting opposite of each other.
“Are you having a good time?” He asked with a smile.
“I am!” Thank you.”
“Good.”
Before I could ask or say anything else, two women walked into the room.
To say they looked like super models was an understatement. They were tall with jet black hair and dark brown eyes. I would guess they were sisters.
They quickly shed their clothes and in a few strides were standing by the hot tub.
"Mind if we join you?” The slightly tall one asked.
“Of course,” Declan said with a smile and shifted a little closer to me.
Pain pulsed through me. Of course, he would find them attractive. He would have to be blind not to and I found myself comparing myself to them. I still looked young and my blonde hair almost seemed drab compared to their shiny and perfectly straight hair.
I finally felt like I was getting curves, but compared to these women, I am sure I looked like I was 12.
I smiled meekly as I watched them flirt with Declan. It was almost as if I was having an out of body experience. I could hear the three of them talking but I couldn’t make out what they were saying.
Glancing over at Declan, I found his attention was given to the two women sitting opposite of us. Without saying a word, I stood and walked to my clothes. I quickly dried off and pulled my clothes over my suit.
Turning to see if Declan might join me, but only to find the two sisters had moved closer and he made no attempt to follow me. Taking a deep breath, I walked over to the hot tub.
“Declan, can I have the room key?”
“Is everything OK?” He seemed surprised I wanted to leave.
“Yeah, I just want to take a shower and head to bed.”
He turned to the girls. “It was nice meeting you both.” And with that he stood and made his way to his clothes.
Within minutes, we were in the elevator and on our way to our room. I didn’t say anything the entire time it took us to get back to our room. As soon as we entered the room, I grabbed some clothes and shut myself in the bathroom without saying a word to Declan.
As the hot water cascaded down my body, I realized I had no right to be mad. He was a single man and he was only talking to those women. But I could help the way I was feeling and I was afraid I would say something to damage our relationship.
After my shower, I dressed and took a deep breath and walked into our room. Declan was looking down at his phone, still in his swimming attire.
He looked up the moment I stepped into the room. “Is everything OK Harper?” He sounded concerned.
“Yeah, I was just tired from swimming and then the hot tub.” I said, giving him a weak smile.
“ OK.” He seemed to believe my excuse. “I ordered room service. It should be here soon. I’m going to take a quick shower.”
I nodded, not really wanting to talk. By the time Declan finished his shower, the food had been delivered and I still hadn’t found my appetite.
We sat in silence as I pushed my pasta around on my plate and Declan ate.
“Are you sure everything is OK?” He asked again.
“Yeah, I am just tired.”
“Well, we should get you to bed. We won’t be leaving tomorrow, so you can sleep in.”
“Why won’t we be leaving tomorrow?”
“There is another storm coming through and the airport is remaining closed.”
“How do you know that?” I asked, confused.
“Those girls from the pool told me. Their father is a pilot.”
“Oh.”
“Did you not hear anything they said?” He asked, smiling at me.
“No. I guess I didn’t.”
Feeling stupid, I looked over at the king-sized bed. There were two small chairs and neither of us would sleep comfortably in the small chairs.
“Which side of the bed do you want?” I boldly asked.
“You are comfortable sharing a bed with me?” He asked softly.
“Yeah.”
“It doesn’t matter which side.”
I crawled into bed and pulled the covers up. “Good Night Declan.”
I watched as he pulled his shirt off, exposing his perfectly sculpted six-pack. He left his joggers on as he slipped into bed next to me.
“Good Night Harper.” He said as he turned the lights off.
I didn’t realize how tired I was until my eyes closed. I don’t know how long, but I found myself falling into a deep sleep.
The following morning, I woke to find Declan already awake and breakfast on a cart. He sat at the small table working away on his Mac.
“Good morning.”
He looked up and smiled at me.
“Good Morning. You must have been really tired. It’s almost 11.”
“WHAT?”
He started laughing and not just a chuckle, but a deep boisterous laugh.
My eyes darted over to the clock to see it was only 9. I squinted my eyes at him but his laugh filled the air and I couldn’t help but start laughing with him. I really had no idea what was so funny, but his laugh was contagious.
Finally, he stopped laughing.
“I’m sorry but your expression was priceless.”
“I don’t think you are funny, Declan.”
“I’m sorry princess. Come and eat.”
I couldn’t help but blush. He had never called me princess before and something inside of me stirred.
After breakfast, I helped Declan with a few things for work and by lunch I was starving.
“Do you want to go down to the restaurant for lunch?”
“Sure.” Declan said, smiling at me.
Running to the bathroom, I quickly changed into one of the dresses that Declan bought for me.
“You look beautiful.” He said the moment I stepped out of the bathroom.
