-------------------------------
All around me was darkness and silence. I felt like I was standing in a giant black room. A voice echoed in my ears, but I couldn't make out who it was. It was a woman's soft voice, which after a few seconds became distinct.
"Hide, hide them all. Please, I won't succeed, it's my only hope." Selene's pain-filled voice rang in the air.
" Selene, they won't hide. They will fight with you and they will not leave you alone in this darkness that is coming." An unfamiliar male voice came from the opposite direction.
"Bewitch, compel, persuade them- that is an order. My son will come back for her, my daughter will need you, her will need them all." Selene's voice became weak and full of pain.
"I will not let you wallow in this madness alone. You cannot sacrifice yourself." The tone of the man's voice rose an octave.
"Go, call ******, now." Selene's voice became cold and stern.
Everything around me suddenly lit up, and my mind tried to make sense of the words I had just heard spoken. Why can't I hear the name of the man my mother needed? What does it all mean? I opened my eyes wide and my body broke out in a cold sweat. Confused eyes were staring at my face in front of me - Issac. The bustle of the students was gone, suggesting that I had been moved to another room.
"How are you? What's wrong? " Issac gently brushed his fingers across my cheek, his face shining with worry.
"Yes, I'm fine. I just felt a little light-headed. Can we go back to the party?" My gaze drifted to the door behind which I could finally hear the buzz of students.
"Amelia, you've just fainted and now you want to go back? Have you lost your mind?" A few lines etched themselves into Issac's forehead and his eyes darkened.
I pushed myself off the sofa, the soft surface of which rested against my back. I looked around to see where I was. It was a completely transformed college classroom. Instead, now there is a huge lounge with a TV, bookshelf, sofas and other entertainment. The beige wallpaper has given it a cosy feel, strangely enough even without the blue. The corner of my lips turned up at the thought. I took a step, but the next moment I felt Issac's hand stop me. I glanced over my shoulder at his worried face.
I cannot tell Issac what I saw. It will be of no use and will only cause a huge mess tonight during the festivities. I hate lying to him, and my she-wolf inside sort of growled in agreement. But I have no other option. Until I find out what's happening to my body, I won't say a word about it. There is a lot of tension arising around the tournament at the moment and I don't want to make things worse. It may be selfish to keep the visions from him, but it's for the sake of the others tonight.
"I'm fine, you coming?" My wide smile must have lit up the whole room.
Issac pulled me close to his chest in a single squeeze, he put his arms tightly around me. His soft lips touched my forehead and we stood like that for a few minutes in complete silence. Then Issac pressed our foreheads together and looked straight at me with his dark blue eyes.
"Amelia, are you hiding something from me?" Issac's low voice echoed in the empty room.
"I'm fine." I gently pressed my lips to Issac's for a brief kiss.
Issac pulled back with a yawn and our fingers laced together. We walked towards the door that led out of the lounge. My thoughts were going round in circles without letting up. Who was my mother talking to? What did she want to hide? The words of a strange man mentioned that they would not hide. Were these the people who fought the first battle against the darkness? Gabriel should know the meaning of these words, since he fought there himself. All the answers seem to lead to the Archangels. They are the only ones on this earth that could answer my questions on these strange visions or whatever it is.
The door opened wide, and the buzzing sound returned to my ears. My gaze went to the stage, where Madeline, Eliana and Leah were sitting at the table, chatting quietly about something. While Jasper and Blake were laughing loudly at another. The gaze lingered on the familiar faces in the hall a little further away. Leah, Noah, names of potential wolf candidates I had just learned, and Ava were sitting at a table chatting. When Ava and I met each other’s eyes, she raised her hand in a kind but mute greeting. I smiled broadly at her. So now the other two candidates for the werewolf race have been revealed I guess - Leah from the former Mountain Pack and Noah who assisted Quin in her training.
I gingerly put my foot on the stage as I made my way to the co-director's table, although that title does not stand next to my name. Eliana turned her violet eyes on me when she heard the high heels clicking. The joy that shone on her face was momentarily replaced by anxiety.
"Are you all right?" Eliana did not take her eyes off me.
"Yes, I'm fine. Where did all this food come from?" My gaze went to Madeline.
Madeline snapped her fingers and then a full glass of champagne with bubbles appeared in front of her. She took the glass from the table and then held it out to me, smiling broadly.
"Drink?" Madeline winked.
"Ten minutes ago she passed out and now you're offering her alcohol?" A few lines etched themselves into Eliana's features, and an angry glare went towards Madeline.
I made myself comfortable next to Madeline, taking the glass of champagne from her hand. At that moment, Issac sat down next to Blake and Jasper, joining their conversation. The glass reached my lips and the sweet liquid slid down my throat.
"Amelia wouldn't feel bad standing here right now, would she?" Madeline's gaze flicked to Eliana, then back to me.
" It was just a bad moment, I’m fine now. What did I miss?" The corner of my lips turned up.
"We have one volunteer from the vampire category. Look to the right, the girl standing there with the dark black hair and a few grey strands." Madeline’s gaze shifted to the vampire team.
The brown mole on her lip and the brightly red painted lips matched her eyes. The dark blue dress highlighted her figure and exposed her shoulders. That girl I saw yesterday, so she's one of vampire candidates. Well, of course, if no one else of her race will claim this place.
"Who is she?" I grimaced at Madeline not wanting to stare at the vampire.
"Scarlett Divero, this girl's eyes even give me the creeps." Eliana smiled widely.
Then my gaze shifted to the farthest corner where the person I didn't expect to see here was standing. His dark brown jacket and skinny jeans hid the lines of his body. His grey beard was neatly woven into one long braid and his grey eyes looked straight at me. Madeline's uncle is Osiris, what is he doing here? The corner of his lips lifted, and his hand rose slightly in greeting to me. I didn't respond to his greeting, but questions began to attack my mind.
"What is your uncle doing here?" My confused gaze turned towards Madeline.
"Issac has allowed him to stay until the tournament is over. That's when I'll go to my college. Osiris wanted me to spend more time with me since we hadn't seen each other for so long. The only time we can do that is now. After the tournament, he's going to another country, back home to his family." Madeline's gaze drifted towards her uncle, and a smile flashed across her lips.
"Why has he turned up now? Is it just a coincidence?" Eliana's gaze shifted to Madeline
“Osiris is a very wintery, tough old man. He's my dead mother's brother. He left the country to hide from the darkness in the furthest corner of the world. However when the darkness retreated he decided to visit me." Madeline's gaze turned to me.
I knew Madeline's mother was dead, but she never liked to talk about her other relatives. All I knew was that she was an only child and her parents had died many years ago when the darkness destroyed the earth. For some time she has lived with her aunt, but when she learned about supernatural beings she decided to go to college there. This is how she met Hellen and became part of this college.
I put the glass to my lips and the alcohol glidded down my throat once more. Everything seemed to be going quite smoothly. The students are having fun and socialising with each other. I'm glad that there are no fights or animosity despite their differences. Although it's probably too early to be optimistic, I hope that these relationships will last beyond the end of the tournament.
"Now about your mark on your collarbone, I was in the library, and I managed to find out something interesting" Madeline's gaze shifted towards me, and the corner of her lips turned up.
"What did you find out?" Eliana's curious gaze went to Madeline.
"How did you know about this?" My questioning gaze went towards Eliana.
"I met Madeline on her way to the library, so she had to tell me everything. That's what friends are for, right? To be there for each other in the hard and the happy moments." Eliana smiled broadly, and then dipped her eye.
"So what's wrong with me?" My gaze returned to Madeline who was sitting with a strange look on her face.
In one easy movement, Madeline pulled a big thick book with a strange thick brown cover out from under the table. The title was written in letters I could not understand. A dark blue tab marked the last place Madeline looked. With one easy movement, the pages of the book turned by themselves, my eyes couldn’t believe what I was looking at. Unfortunately for me, I did not understand a single word that was written there. My gaze fell on Madeline, who I hoped would translate at least one word of all this confusing text.
"Look at this page." Madeline put her finger on the next page.
My gaze returned to the strange book, and the page showed three moons. It was the three phases of the moon - New Moon, Full Moon and Delta. My gaze returned to Madeline and I sat patiently waiting for even the slightest explanation of what was happening to me.
"The girl stood on the edge of the cave, no longer believing in the world. Disillusioned despite all of her relatives, friends and those around her. She looked up with her dark eyes at the starry sky and the full moon shining brightly in it. Emotions boiled in her chest and salty tears ran down her cheeks. She looked at the moon and wondered why her fate was so cruel. Suddenly, a star shone in the sky and turned into a small ball that split open a line her chest. Then a moon-shaped mark appeared on her skin.
The next night, on the other side of the world, a blue-eyed man stood in the night looking at the restless sea beneath his feet. The waves crashed against the rock, creating an echo and expressing his empathy for the world. Dark black thoughts swirled in the man's mind, leading him to contemplate suicide. Closing his eyes, he could see only darkness around him and the wind was teasing his black hair. Suddenly, a falling star high in the sky forced his eyes open and star turned into a small ball that passed through his hand. Then a half-moon-shaped mark appeared on his skin - erasing all the darkness inside him.
The last moon-shaped mark went to the person seeking revenge. The man's chest was filled with anger, contempt, scorn and darkness. Standing in the dark forest, with the moon shining faintly in the sky, he looked up with eyes full of anger. Suddenly the air turned cold and a white mist began to gather around his thin legs, growing thicker and thicker. A star shone high in the sky and turned into a small dark ball which soon pierced the man's hand. Thus giving him the third mark and plunging his mind into total darkness.
These people are now linked forever - in darkness, in light, in tears, in loneliness and in pain.
The three peoplr suffering from loneliness were destined for each other forever so that they might never feel lonely and sad.
Three people who do not know each other at all, but at the same time belong to each other.
Three people who can change the world - destroy it or make it flourish." Madeline's calm voice became quieter little by little.
"You mean I'm not the only one with this tag? But what's the point of this? Is there another God or Hybrid? This tag is inherited from my mother. This legend must go back so far, it is hard to imagine. No concrete answer yet, just more questions in my mind." I sighed, glancing at the students sitting at the table.
"But it doesn't say anything about phase changes? Or is this just a fragment of legend?" Eliana's violet eyes locked on Madeline.
"That's all I found, the next page is torn out. I think she's supposed to be changimg, but so far there are no more answers." Madeline shrugged as she returned the book under the table.
"What is the name of this legend? Perhaps we can look it up on the internet?" A few lines were etched in my forehead.
"The White Promise." Madeline's gaze returned to me.
"That is all very peculiar." Eliana wrinkled her forehead.
"So now it's our mission to unravel the whole legend and find out who all these people are? Or at least look for them among some supernatural beings. Perhaps the Archangels know of this legend? They are the longest living on this earth." My confused gaze returned to Madeline.
"I will take care of the vastness of the Internet, and Madeline will have to search the books. In the meantime, Amelia, your mission is not to panic and stay alive." Eliana's serious gaze shifted towards me.
"Who said anything about dying?" Issac's voice caught my attention.
"No one, are we ready to go? Did the first meeting go well?" The corner of my lips lifted as I looked at Issac.
Issac waved his arms as he stood up from his seat, drawing everyone's attention to himself. He walked slowly to the table in front of him and looked at all the students whose eyes were already on him.
"Dear students, I hope this social was equal parts enjoyable and exciting for all. With this speech of mine, we will conclude this evening's event. You can spend as much time as you like in this school. Each of you has already found your own places to spend the next few nights... I wish you all goodnight, see you tomorrow." Issac raised his hand in farewell.
A few loud claps rang out, and then the hall was buzzing again. I got up from my chair and walked towards Issac. I cannot believe how quickly time is passing. It seems that darkness has just occupied the streets, and now, looking out of the window, the moon was shining brightly in the sky. After a few more steps, my hand found Issac and we headed for the exit, leaving everyone else behind. They don't need our permission to leave the hall or to say goodbye. I am sure we will see them all tomorrow. As we walked down the corridor and finally down to the first floor, my thoughts were terribly troubled. I can't get the legend Madeline told me about out of my head. What is my connection to the moon? Well, yes, I am a Hybrid, but that's not an excuse. Why should the Moon Goddess feel lonely standing before the moon? How old is this legend and how many times has this mark on my collarbone transformed? I would like to know the whole legend, maybe it would help me to understand what is happening to me? Are the people I dreamt about the same as those mentioned in the legend? One was dark and the other was light. Perhaps... No answers, just questions that keep changing each other.
"Are you all right?" Issac's gaze shifted to me, and his voice startled me out of my reverie.
"Yes, I'm just tired. I don't feel very well." I shrugged, squeezing Issac's hand tighter.
"You really need to rest. That mark on your collarbone is doing strange things to your body. Your loss of consciousness is probably linked to the change somehow." A few lines etched themselves into Issac's forehead, and his gaze drifted forward.
My mother's words echoed in my head - Hide, hide them all. Did she mean two people? Why does everything have to be so confusing. As the main doors of the college opened, a cool night wind blew in my face. The bright stars twinkled in the sky forcing me to momentarily break away from the question attacking my mind. Time will probably tell. If I keep seeing all the little visions, maybe I can figure out more about what is really going on? But that is not the only thing I have to worry about now. Lorenzo and the Crown of Light Tournament.
Despite everything, Madeline and Eliana promised to help me. I hope everything will turn out much easier than it seems now. Tomorrow I must tell Issac and the other members about this. I can no longer hide such serious events happening to me one after the other. Although I know deep down that I should do it today, I don't want to spend all night on the edge of my bed answering Issac's questions. Questions I don't know the answer to, so it can wait.
Exactly fifteen steps later, I was sitting in the car, and Issac turned the keys in the lock and brought the car back to life. The dark streets flew past the car window and the moon shone insistently in the sky. I rested my head against the cool glass of the machine, hoping to forget for a little while. Issac's hand gently found mine with a faint click, drawing my attention.
"How are you?" Issac's calm voice echoed through the car, and his curious eyes fixed on me for a moment.
"Tired. You're probably right. That mark on my skin has a strange effect on my body." The corner of my lips lifted at the sight of Issac's form in the twilight.
Issac fell silent, a few lines etched into his forehead. As the darkness shrouded the inside of the car, the contours of his face were stark, yet so attractive and sexy. Issac's jaw tensed and his forehead furrowed, as if he was thinking about something intently. I don't want to disturb his reverie, my inappropriate words can quickly change his mood. So my gaze slipped from his face to the grey skies in front of him, which was only rushing forward. My thoughts became heavy again with the question, and my eyes closed in an attempt to get rid of them. Another school year, strange legends and an indescribable feeling in my chest. Who are these two strangers? Why does this concern me? Will Lorenzo come back, or is it new enemies we face? Is this the end? Questions, questions, questions... All different and all the same... Even though the answers one all the questions lie with one person - ME.
