The Rogue Alphas Mate
Chapter 1
Iris's Pov:
Iris Rae trudged through the dense forest, her camera slung over her shoulder and her senses on high alert. She had been walking for hours, but a wrong turn somewhere had left her disoriented and lost in the woods surrounding Brookscove. Her photography internship was supposed to be a dream come true, but so far, it was more like a nightmare.
As she navigated the uneven terrain, Iris's feet slipped on a patch of loose gravel, and she felt herself tumbling down a steep hill. She let out a startled yelp, her arms flailing wildly as she tried to regain her balance. Just as she thought she was going to crash to the ground, strong arms caught her, steadying her.
Iris looked up to see a ruggedly handsome stranger gazing down at her, his piercing eyes locking onto hers. "Hey, easy there," he said, his deep voice rumbling through her. "You okay?"
Dazed and disoriented, Iris nodded, her heart still racing from the fall. "Y-yes, thanks," she stammered. "I'm just a bit...lost."
The stranger's gaze softened, and he helped her steady herself on her feet. "Lost?" he repeated. "You're a long way from anywhere. What brings you out here all alone?"
Iris brushed off her clothes, trying to compose herself. "I was supposed to be heading back to town, but I think I took a wrong turn," she admitted.
The stranger nodded sympathetically. "I'm Dallas. Can I help you find your way back?"
As Iris introduced herself, she couldn't help but notice the way Dallas's eyes seemed to gleam in the fading light, and the way his muscles rippled beneath his skin. She felt a spark of attraction, but pushed it aside, focusing on getting back to town.
Alpha Dallas's Pov:
As I stood there, my senses on high alert, I caught sight of a figure tumbling down the hill. Before I could even process what was happening, a petite human landed in my arms, her momentum sending us both stumbling backward. Instinctively, I wrapped my arms around her, holding her close as I regained my balance.
Her scent hit me like a ton of bricks - sweet, innocent, and utterly captivating. My wolf stirred, sensing the presence of our mate. Mate. The word echoed in my mind, a concept I had never thought would apply to me. But there was no denying the connection I felt as I gazed down at the human in my arms.
"Hey, easy there," I said, trying to sound calm despite the turmoil brewing inside me. "You okay?"
She looked up at me, her eyes wide with surprise, and I felt my heart skip a beat. "Y-yes, thanks," she stammered. "I'm just a bit...lost."
I smiled, trying to reassure her, as I helped her steady herself on her feet. "Lost?" I repeated. "You're a long way from anywhere. What brings you out here all alone?"
As she introduced herself as Iris, I couldn't help but notice the way her eyes sparkled in the fading light. My wolf growled softly, urging me to claim her, to mark her as our own. But I pushed the instinct aside, focusing on getting to know this fragile human who had stumbled into my life.
Iris's Pov:
As Iris walked alongside Dallas, she couldn't help but notice the way he moved with a fluid, almost animalistic, grace. She shook her head, chiding herself for being ridiculous. She was just grateful to have met someone who could help her find her way back to town.
"So, Dallas," she said, trying to make conversation, "do you live around here?"
Dallas nodded, his eyes scanning the surrounding woods. "Yeah, I have a place nearby. I've been...away from town for a while, though."
Iris sensed a hint of tension in his voice, but didn't press the issue. "Well, thanks for helping me out," she said instead. "I really appreciate it."
Dallas smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "No problem," he said. "I'm just glad I was around to catch you."
As they walked, Iris noticed that the woods seemed to be growing denser, the trees twisting and turning in ways that seemed almost...unnatural. She felt a shiver run down her spine, but Dallas's presence seemed to calm her nerves.
Suddenly, Dallas stopped, his head c****d to one side. "Do you hear that?" he asked, his voice low and urgent.
Iris listened, but all she heard was the distant hooting of an owl. "Hear what?" she asked, feeling a sense of unease.
Dallas's eyes locked onto hers, and for a moment, Iris felt like he could see right through her. "Never mind," he said, his voice softening. "Let's just get you back to town, okay?"
Alpha Dallas's Pov:
As I walked alongside the human, Iris, I couldn't help but be drawn to her scent. She was sweet and innocent, a stark contrast to the darkness that lurked within these woods. I had been avoiding town for weeks, trying to keep my newfound rogue status under wraps, but Iris's presence had stirred something within me.
I glanced down at her, watching as she chatted nervously, her eyes darting around the woods. She had no idea what she was walking into, no idea that she had stumbled into the midst of a werewolf's territory. And yet, I couldn't bring myself to leave her side.
"So, Dallas," she said, her voice breaking into my thoughts, "do you live around here?"
I nodded, my eyes scanning the surrounding woods. "Yeah, I have a place nearby. I've been...away from town for a while, though." I tried to keep my tone neutral, but Iris's curious gaze told me she sensed something was off.
As we walked, Iris's scent grew stronger, and my instincts began to stir. My wolf growled softly, sensing the proximity of our mate. Mate. The word echoed in my mind, a concept I had never thought would apply to me. But there was no denying the connection I felt to Iris.
Suddenly, I stopped, my ears perked up. I heard the distant howl of a wolf, a warning call from one of my own kind. Iris looked up at me, her eyes questioning, but I just shook my head. "Let's just get you back to town, okay?"
My wolf growled in protest, not wanting to let Iris out of our sight. I couldn't blame it. I didn't want to let her go either. But for her own safety, I knew it was best to get her back to the safety of town.
Chapter 2
Iris's Pov:
I walked into town, feeling a mix of relief and confusion. Dallas had insisted on walking me back to town, and I'd been surprised by how easy it was to talk to him. Despite his rough exterior, he had a kind smile and piercing eyes that seemed to see right through me.
As we parted ways, he handed me a small piece of paper with his number scribbled on it. "Just in case you need anything," he said, his voice low, and smooth. I felt a flutter in my chest as I took the paper, wondering if I'd ever see him again.
Now, as I walked into the local café, I couldn't shake the feeling that my life was about to change in ways I couldn't even imagine. I spotted my friend and colleague, Emily, sitting at a table, sipping a latte.
"Hey, girl!" she exclaimed, waving me over. "How was your day?"
I slid into the booth across from her, feeling a sense of exhaustion wash over me. "It was...eventful," I said, trying to summarize the past few hours.
Emily raised an eyebrow. "Eventful? Spill the beans!"
I hesitated, unsure how much to share. But something about Dallas's enigmatic smile and piercing eyes made me want to confide in Emily. "I got lost in the woods," I began, "and I met this guy. Dallas. He's...different."
Emily's eyes widened. "Different how?"
I leaned in, lowering my voice. "I don't know, exactly. He's just... intense. And handsome. And he caught me when I fell down a hill."
Emily's eyes sparkled with amusement. "Sounds like a hero," she teased. "You're definitely telling me more about this Dallas guy."
