Chapter Fourteen

I wake up to my phone ringing. I check the caller Id and answer
“Babe I know I am missable but 24 hours hasn’t passed” I say and he laughs with his sleepy voice which makes me smile. My sister walks in and sits on the bed
“You love yourself too much baby” Travis says
“I know right. Who would love me that much” I say looking at Anita whose staring at me
“You’d never know since you think we are conniving bastards” he says and I laugh
“Wow not you saying that Travis” I say. He laughs and Anita widens her eyes
“Look I called to as if you still remember when is the Gala Dinner for Williams attorneys?” He says
“Umm I don’t remember but I know it’s somewhere the coming weeks. Should I call and check?” I ask
“Umh no it’s fine. How’s home treating you?” He asks
“So far so good. Look can we talk later cause someone is staring at me” I say looking at Anita
“Okay greet my wife and father in law there” he says and I laugh.
“I’ll sure do. Bye” I hang up
“When are you and Travis going to confess your love for one another?” Anita asks. Not so early
“Dude there’s no love here oh well not for me maybe him” I say
“Mhmmm and I bet you’ll buy me a car the day y’all are on each other’s pants” she says and I laugh. She’s crazy
“An entire car Anny for love?” I ask and she giggles
“Yes an entire car” She says like a car it’s nothing
“You are day dreaming” I say and she laughs
“Is what dad told us last night the reason why you asked us to come home” Anita asks
Ow by the way my dad dropped a bomb on us last night. He introduced us to our stepmom. She’s cool I like her but I can tell that Anita and Junior are not so welcoming towards her. I am really happy for my dad it was a matter of time and he must get rid of his boredom and calling us non stop telling us about how his cows are fat and him getting milk from them when they give birth.
“No it was not. I didn’t know about the lady of the house being introduced to us. I just missed y’all and wanted us to be home altogether” I say. The lies she’ll have to wait for Trevor to break the news to them
“Okay but you seem to like her” she says
“Psss I don’t hate her because I don’t have anything against her and we just met. She looks cool and who knows she might change along the way and be theee real stepmother” I say. I honestly can’t have anything against her
“Mhmm. By the way we decided actually me and Junior decided to look for mom” She says and my mood changes from 100 to 10
“Okay” I say
“Is that all you are going to say” Anita asks. I get up from the bed to open windows and come back and tell her to sit on the chair cause I want to make the bed
“There’s nothing I can say Anita, it’s both your decision and I am glad. I wish you the best in finding her but can you please not put me in this cause I am not pitching well if Trevor agrees to meeting her which I doubt he will cause he hardly remembers her then so be it but count me out” I say.
“Ow okay. I don’t get how you welcome another woman and fail to look for your own mother” she says standing up
“Really Anita are you going to do this now. It’s been 20 years since she left and you expect me to be sad all this years? Like really I don’t get why should I now be crucified just because I welcomed Lillian with a hug. Dad has been supporting and taking care of us since that woman left us and never had he ever complained now that he found someone you guys want to ruin it?” I say infuriated
“We are not ruining his love. All I am saying is that we need to look out for our mom that’s all” She says
“Look for her alone and keep me out of it. And the fact that I accepted Lilian shouldn’t bother you cause you don’t like her for no apparent reason you have my well wishes in finding mommy dearest” I say continuing with my bed
“Wow you don’t care?” She says
“There’s nothing to care about for her. She also didn’t care so why should I” I say
“She did and what if the real reason she left was because dad didn’t treat her good” She says and I clap my hands in disbelief
“Anita. That woman left because of the stage she was in at that time. She left a note stating her reasons for leaving and now it’s because dad didn’t treat her well. I can’t believe you shame” I say walking to my wardrobe and taking out clothes
She leaves without saying anything. My sister can be a pain in the ass sometimes. I go in the bathroom and do my thing. I walk out with my towel. I get in my room, I moisturise and dress up in a long floral dress with sandals. I then put other things where they stay and walk to Trevor’s bedroom and knock.
“Come in” He says and I walk in. He’s laying in his bed with legs up
“Hey big fella are you ready for us to break the big news” I ask as I sit on the edge bed
“No I am not but what choice do I have” he asks sitting up straight. Poor thing
“I want you to have an open mind to this Trevor. Yes you are above age but also you are on the wrong. I want you not to react anyhow to what dad will say or Junior or Anita. Just be there and let them say what they want to. Dad’s expectations about us is to have kids in marriage and you broke his expectations, it was a mistake I get that. I want you to know that I’ll support you and my niece or nephew okay?” I say
He nods and we walk out. We find breakfast prepared and ready everyone is sitting but the tension is too thick. It will make it hard for the kid to talk. We greet and sit down. The kids are eating on the couches. We eat in silence with Anita and Junior having their own conversation. I clear my throat and everyone focuses on me.
“Umhh daddy Trevor here has something to say” I state and Trevor looks at me with eyes widened
“Okay I am all ears” my dad says sipping on his tea
“Umhh ..” Trevor says while scratching his head
“I made a mistake dad and I am very sorry”
He says rubbing his palms
“Talk man” Junior says and I give him a look. Does he have to shout?
“I impregnated a girl from res” he says dragging his chair back. He knows the probability of getting a fist or hot clap
“WHATT!!!!!!” Junior says
“I emmm emmm I am sorry” Trevor says and my dad stands up.
I also stand and shadow Trevor. They honestly can’t tell me that they will beat the poor child. I mean he acknowledged his wrong. Anita and Lillian are sitting down. My dad stands in front of me
“Move Talitha before I slap you right now” he says
“No dad. You can’t beat him. He is wrong but beating him won’t turn back anything” I say
“So you are supporting the nonsense that this boy is up to at school. I sent you to school to bring me a degree and all you get me is a child” my dad roars
“No father I am sorry” Trevor say behind me
“Enough!!!” Lillian shouts and my dad looks at her.
“Sit down all of you” she says and I take seat so does Trevor my dad stands.
“Hubby please sit down so we resolve this issue” Lillian says and my dad sits. Talking about a softener!!’
“Trevor explain to us who this girl is and her family background” Mama says. He explains about the family of the girl. They are not financially stable and I am proud of my young brother. He has been looking after the girl.
“Okay I hear you. Do they know about her being pregnant” Ma asks and Trevor shakes his head no
“Okay. We will talk about that with your dad” Ma says. Cool woman I tell you. She’s just kind and loving
I can just tell that the other two siblings are not happy. This two need to get a life they are old for acting like teenagers. I mean Trevor is about 20 something and it’s not like they are forced to maintain or support the child once it’s born. I excuse my self and go to my room. Trevor walks in also and attacks me with a hug
“Thank you for standing up for me” He says
“You are more than welcome. I am just sad your child is going to be older to mine and mine won’t get to abuse yours” I say smiling and he laughs
“Don’t worry they’ll be best buddies”. He says. He walks out and I receive a call from Dan. He was checking up on me and also asking for get together. Too much demands for acquaintances. I just said I will see according to my schedule. A knock disturbs my reading
“Come in”. Lillian walks in
“Are you okay?” She asks
“Yes I just needed to get some air” I say
“Okay. You are such a great sister. Standing up for your brother like that was brave of you” she says
“I just couldn’t let dad beat him. It was not going to be a nice thing to watch” I say
“Indeed. Anyway I came to say thank you for welcoming me with warm hands” she says
“You welcome. Feel free as long as dad chose you and happy then am happy for him too” I say
“I promise I am not here to replace your mom. I love your dad” she says with a smile
“Okay too much info Mama. I don’t mind even if you replace that woman. She’s just an incubator to me” I say
“No don’t talk like that” she says
“It’s the truth. She just gave birth to me nothing more” I say. She asks me to accompany her to go do dishes. The two grown ups went to the mall with their kids
“Where are your kids” she asks
“I don’t have any Mama” I answer wiping dishes
“What are you waiting for” she asks and I giggle to her reaction
“Nothing ma. I am good being an aunt” I answer
“No Talitha those eggs will freeze” she says and I laugh. I like her
“Don’t worry Mama I will have have them when the time is right and also when god approves. For now I am still making money incase they don’t have a dad cause this generation of men run away” I say and she laughs clapping her hands
“You are a problem Talitha.” She says and we laugh.
My dad walks in and smiles to us. He apologises to the way he spoke to me and I also apologise. He tells us he spoke to Trevor and they will set a date to go the girls family to report the pregnancy.
