The day before I turn 18 is a whirlwind wind of people coming and going. Making sure every last thing is ready for tomorrow. Both my parents have gone for the day to some big meeting ahead of tomorrow to arrange the signing over of the business. So I just plod around hoping for something to fill the time. I decide the library is where I will spend the day in and out of various books. I pick up the first book I see and open the cover. I read the first word and my mind drifts. I have no idea what time it is until my mother comes in and wakes me for dinner. I must have fallen asleep whilst reading. When I close the book in my lap I'm not surprised I fell asleep 'the history of the english language', I clearly wasn't paying attention to what I was doing.
Nicholas pov
Sitting in my office trying to think of a reason to get out of this ceremony and party tomorrow but there isn't a good enough reason for me not to go. My father always said that this pack is one of the best next to ours of course and I should do well not to upset them. I'm snapped back to the present when the phone rings "The Alpha and his Luna of Lleuad Nos are here to see you"
"Perfect send them in". i say to my receptionist. "John, Lynnett so glad you could make it, looking fabulous today Lynnett". I say with a smile.
“Well Nick we couldn't miss it, as you know tomorrow I am handing over the pack and business to my daughter and I want to sign the relevant paperwork for her name to be on all contracts starting with the one for the property in the old county that is our present to her”. John reiterated from our call earlier.
“Great an 18 yr old not only in charge of a pack but the business as well Caesar snarls”. I keep him back not wanting to offend anyone.
“Of course. I have had all the paperwork drawn up for you, I just need you to sign it and you are done”.
“You are coming tomorrow night aren't you Nick. It's been too long since you last visited” Lynnett pleads.
“I wouldn't miss it Lynnett, I'm sure I haven't visited since I was probably 13”.
“Oh my that long, goodness things have certainly changed”.
“There we go all signed. John says as he hands the pen back to me. Don't be too offended if Isla doesn't want to talk business tomorrow night it is her birthday after all”. He chuckles.
“You don't have to worry about that. No business talk”. I nod.
We all stand and I walk them to the door a hand shake from John and a quick cwtch (a welsh hug) and peck on the cheek from Lynnett. “I will miss not working with you both”. I sigh as they walk out of my office to the elevator. Once they are in the lift I return to my office.
“I best do some research on this daughter of theirs before I meet her” I grumble to myself. I spent the next 3 hours looking for her on various social media platforms and internet searches. But there is either no mention of her or there are millions of different people all by the same name. I walk over to the large floor to ceiling window overlooking the city below, in the corner of my eye there is a reflection of a photo I walk over to see it. I haven't removed any photos since this office was my father's I never sore any need as I liked how he had decorated. I only changed and updated anything that involved technology.
Looking at the picture I see that it was the photo of both my family and the Powell's when I was 12 one of the last visits i had there. It seems like such a long time ago.
“How bad can tomorrow be we may even see the girl again”. I suggest to Caesar I have to try to keep him happy in all of this. “Only reason I'm not refusing point blank”. He grumbles.
