Kelly started replaying all that had happened again, even how that blue jacket man gave her his number and most especially, she wouldn’t forget being called unattractive by that man.
she actually did something so outrageous like that? Now that she pondered about it, she could not explain where she got her bravery to approach him even seeing the kind of man he is. Was she really desperate?
Kelly was aware that what she did that very day was pure madness, offering her self to be his girl friend. Deep in her heart, she didn’t regret it but for the fact that, that stranger rejected her, unexpectedly motivated her. She thought that the kind of man she was looking for was him. A heartless man who didn’t fall for anyone. She didn’t know why but she believed him when he told her that he does not do love and never would. Maybe because she saw the truth in his eyes when he made that statement. She didn’t know why she believed him or maybe she felt that the man has an icy heart that would never ever melt.
But was it possible for her to fall for such an icy man, she wondered . Was is possible to love a man that is so cold, so cold that her poor harmless heart would tremble. she couldn’t tell but like Eve in the Bible, she wanted to taste the forbidden fruit even though she was aware that it might cause her pain. “Besides didn’t they say love is blind? so my case will not be different " she said.
At this point, she didn’t want to tell her self to be careful because there was no need for it. She had nothing to be afraid of because she knew she would be dying soon and if she doesn’t do it now, she will never do it so she decided to take the risk.
When she got back home from the orphanage where she worked for free after her graduation, she got home and her family were already waiting for her in the living room, watching their favorite movie channel.
They all had a peaceful and pleasant dinner before Kelly went to her room to have a peaceful refreshment.
As years passes by, Mercy and Kelly had always spent lesser time because of Mercy’s parents. Since Mercy was their only child, she needed to handle some responsibilities and because of that, they barely see each other often.
After taking her shower, she lay in her bed. She had been thinking about that man all night, even when she was in the shower. Strangely, she couldn’t stop. Was it because he rejected her? Maybe probably not. Or It was because of his ever striking experience. The probability was high.
Kelly couldn’t help because she thought he wasn’t real as she remembers every features of his face, it couldn’t get off her head. She then went to the place where she hide what that man gave her, lifted up the note and stared at it for a while.
As she lay on her bed with the note in her arm, her eyes drifted close. The next thing she knew is the sun streaming through her windows.
She rose and did her usual routine, dressed her bed and helped her grandmother prepare breakfast. Her grandmother didn’t like the fact that Kelly had helped her with the breakfast but she doesn’t have any choice but to allow the girl help her because her strength was failing her.
After eating breakfast, she got ready for work and gave her grandparents a goodbye kiss before she drove back to the city.
As years passed, Kelly grandparents got her a car not to expensive to run her daily activities and meanwhile Mercy and her parents were no longer living close to Kelly but instead, they now stay in the city.
Her job at the orphanage was volunteered by her, she wasn’t paid but it didn’t bother her because she volunteered her self. She was told that her parents also volunteered themselves to work at the orphanage before they died. So because of that, she wanted to be as good as her parents and more over, she loves children that’s why she didn’t see it stressful in being around children.
Her job was mainly assisting teachers during class time, she was assigned to read books to the kids during weekdays, except from Fridays and she loved the nature of her job. She had grown to care very much about children and treated them like her own family. She was very happy doing those things for as long as she was able.
It was Monday, so the children that haven’t seen her for 3 days were so happy to see her. They embraced her as soon as they saw her walking in the building
" Miss Kelly, we missed you”
said one of the kids called Betty and she was the youngest and was Kelly’s favorite. She kissed Kelly at the side of her chick and hugged her so tight like a child would hold its Teddy, preventing it from been touched by some people who wished to harm the Teddy.
" i missed you all too”
Kelly reacted to the hug with smile on her face.
" now let’s go inside, your teach will be coming soon.
Kelly assisted Mrs Blessing, the kids teacher, the whole day She read them a story with the tittle " the cute prince” . After the class was over, Kelly walked to a coffee shop near the orphanage.
She had sent Mercy a message last night telling her that she wanted to tell her about something so they chose the coffee shop as their meeting point.
KELLY: how are you? You were pretty drunk last night. Kelly was looking at Mercy with a raised brow.
Mercy was no longer the little girl she used to be, she is now grown up and it was as if she took over Kelly’s strength. Beating who ever that tries getting on her way.
MERCY: (smiling) do i look that bad? She tried rubbing her face with her both hands. This time around, she was makeup free.
KELLY: yes off course .
MERCY: don’t lie Kelly i made sure i slept well. She huffed and Kelly could only chuckle.
