Chapter Two Nia’s POV Amidst the pain, I couldn’t keep the goofy grin off my face. I was happy to have been in that dungeon. Firstly, I spoke to my parents, and second, I got to meet my little wolf. I could not transition into a werewolf, but I was happy to know I had a little wolf. I had thought I was wolf-less. “Stay still, Nia!” Ginger yelled a she tried to clean my body of slime and blood. She was the only one waiting outside the dungeon to carry me. Ginger, my best friend. I stared into her eyes as soon as she accepted me and began to kiss her cheeks. I thanked the moon goddess daily for keeping her in my life. She has been the only one who stood by me through horrible things. She told me to keep my emotions in check, as she was not my mate. This made me burst into laughter. She carried me bridal style into the maid quarters. She stopped me from taking a shower because I had too many wounds on me. So she said I could bathe in the next 3 days. “I had thought you’d die for real this time,” she grabbed my arm and applied an ointment on it. I smiled brightly. “Me too. I saw my parents. I was happy” Ginger eyed me. “Why do you have that stupid grin on your face? Wait, I bet it’s not because you saw your parents, who have you smiling sheepishly.” I burst into laughter. “Is it that obvious? Are my cheeks puffy?” I turned around, rummaging through my bag. Then I grabbed the mirror. I couldn’t believe it. My cheeks were puffy. “You look nothing like what you went through, with that smile on your face—“Ginger was interrupted when a maid walked into the room. She turned to me. “Hi Nia,” she smiled, and I smiled back, eyes wide in surprise. It was Ella. Genevieve’s most liked maid. She was annoying and snobbish as hell. She didn’t talk to me because she said I was beneath her. “I heard what happened to you at the palace. So sorry about that. You can have my secret stash of chicken pie,” she put the flask of food in my arms, smiled, and walked out of the room. My eyes widened in surprise. No way. How was this happening? Ginger scoffed. “Fake ass people” “Ginger, did you see that?’ I pointed at the door. “That is Ella, the snob. She just gave me her meal stash, can you believe it?” ‘Ginger rolled her eyes. “Please tell me you didn’t listen to that rumor. It has not been confirmed by anyone. The pack warlock just deceives girls with these lists to get people to pay him some money.” “But Ginger, what if it’s true?” I sat up. “What if I had been mated to Alpha Michael?” Ginger shoved me gently back to the bed. “It’s not. Sit still. I have to clean off this dry blood,” she scrubbed at my feet. The rest of the day had me dazed. Maids kept coming up to me, they sympathized with me on what Genevieve did to me. This is something that has never happened. I noticed the subtle smiles even from the chief matron and cook. I’ll be a liar if I say I didn’t see how big my food was, compared to others. After dinner, I and Ginger walked back to the maid quarters. Suddenly, we began to hear shouts from a particular room. We ran in, and there we saw a maid sprawled on the floor. I thought she had passed out, only for her to sit up abruptly and begin to laugh. “What happened?” Ginger asked a girl beside us. “The warlock predicted an alpha of a distant pack as her mate. The alphas arrived today, and when she went to see him, he marked her” the girl pointed at the other girl’s neck. Immediately, I ran back to my room gleefully. Some girls grabbed me. “Nia, Alpha Michael has arrived,” one said. “Have you seen a picture of him?” another asked. I shook my head. “I have heard he is handsome,” they all gasped. One of the girls threw her bag to the floor and combed through the contents till she found a paper. “Here is a picture of him,” she shoved the paper into my face. I gasped. I stared at a very good-looking man. He was like a Greek goddess. Alpha Michael. He had short, spiky brown hair. His eyes were cocoa brown, and his nose was pointed. He was six feet tall and had a body that screamed of his manly appeal. My heart beat faster while staring at him. I almost melted. Ginger grabbed the paper off my hands and handed it back to the girl. “Don’t raise her hopes. The warlock might be lying. You know he is so good at it.” One of the girls shook her head violently as she pointed at the door,” So how do you explain the girl down the hall, that the warlock told who her mate was, and now he has marked her?” Ginger went quiet. I hugged my friend. “I understand your concern, dear, but I have every reason to believe the warlock.” Ginger stared at me and nodded quietly. “You should go see him, Nia,” one of the girls yelled. And that was how I was rushed into the bathroom. My wounds had not yet healed properly, but I took the pain. I winced as I showered. The girls got me ready and sent me to the Alpha's lodge. I made a few heads turn as I walked to the building. Smiling, I looked up and thanked the moon goddess. Maybe this was what Mum meant when she said everything would change. “In here,” Sheila, my little wolf, directed me. I took the elevator up and went towards the room number given by the girls. A few meters away from the room, I began hearing moaning sounds. I rolled my eyes. These alpha wolves should keep their mating low-key. As I inched closer to the door, I realized that the moaning was not coming from anywhere but from the room number of Alpha Michael. I took slow, shaky steps to the room. My heart raced and I felt lightheaded. I clutched the door knob but I was surprised to find the door slightly ajar. The moment I set my eyes on the figures on the bed, I immediately wished I had bled to death, by Genevieve’s whip.
