For the first time, Yvan felt inclined to observe his environment as he returned to the inside of the house. Perhaps he was actually curious about the life that the real Luke lived, or he wanted to stall in order to wait a little longer before meeting this woman who was the love of Luke’s life.
He had no interest in dealing with breaking someone’s heart. Whomever that girl, Leah, was, he could not reciprocate the feelings she had for him. It was clear from what mother said that Luke was also in love with Leah, even to the point of defying his mother's orders — which Yvan related greatly to — those feelings disappeared with the real Luke and Yvan could not bring himself to revive them.
He took a separate path back to his bedroom, and on the way, he scanned his surroundings. He saw extravagantly beautiful paintings and vases that he recognized as having been made by talented artists.
The people Luke lived with were evidently not peasants. Even in this world, one would have to be extraordinarily wealthy in order to be able to own such fine pieces of craft and art.
They had servants, too, including that maid he saw when he woke up.
He did not quite understand the hierarchies of the current world he was in, but he was able to determine that the lifestyle of the people he lived with now was not that much different from the one he lived in the other world. Wherever Caleana was, he wondered if the circumstances of her previous life were the same as the one of her current one.
Either way, they had to find each other.
Caleana had not gone home after she left work. Instead, she found that strange device in the pocket of her coat.
When walking down the streets — it took her a moment to learn to navigate the world after she had to observe the people around her — through the same means, she discovered how to use the device known as a cell phone by watching people using them as they walked by.
The last person she had been speaking to was a boy named Luke, and from the nature of their conversations, it was clear that she, Leah, was in a relationship with this Luke person. She thought that if there was anyone that could help her, it would be him.
For some reason, she had a vague idea of where Luke lived. Following her instincts, she reached a large house that was somewhat reminiscent of a castle. The personnel stationed at the gates allowed her through when they recognized her, and without any words exchanged, she walked through until she found herself in front of the large doors.
“Luke… right?” She muttered to herself before she knocked on the door. Surprisingly, before her hand touched the door, it opened so fast that she was stunned, especially when a man with a stern expression walked forward wearing an attire that seemed somewhat format.
“Miss. Leah. We weren’t expecting your visit. The young master is getting ready to meet you. Please come this way,” the butler said as he turned around. She didn’t know how to react. He had recognized her and referred to her by the same name that everyone else did, so she must have been at the right place.
The young master must have been Luke. In the other world, that title was used for young, male royals. Caleana was able to deduce that Luke must have been born in a rich family. The estate itself looked wonderful and belonged to a wealthy family. Compared to the rest of the buildings that she saw on the way to Luke’s home, it was clear that this was a home of prestige.
She walked silently behind the butler down the hallways of the house, unsure of what to expect. Unknown to her, she had the same feelings towards Luke that Yvan had towards Leah. She had no love for Luke at all. All she wanted to find out whom exactly she was, and not long afterward, she would have to Leah’s relationship with him because her heart belonged to Yvan and only Yvan.
There was a particular painting that caught her attention as she walked past it.
It was a family portrait that was eerily similar to ones that royal families had done in the other world. The heads of the family, the King and Queen, were seated on two chairs while the children stood all around them.
The difference with the current painting she was looking at was that the wife and husband were standing, a daughter and a son were standing right beside them, the butler that was leading her was also in the portrait, indicating that the butler was a very important person to the family. And, lastly, there was a young woman who was dressed as a maid in the portrait, too.
It was strange that they had included the servants in the portrait. Perhaps, in this world, wealthy families had a tradition of hiring family members to work for them. It made sense to Caleana. There was no other person you could trust with your own home than someone who was already a part of it.
She wondered if Leah would have been included in the painting… or rather would have been, if she had continued her relationship with Luke.
Caleana hadn’t realized it but she was stopped directly in front of the portrait and was now staring at the son, trying to figure if he was the ‘Luke’ that she was supposed to be in a relationship with.
She didn’t understand his charm points. Not that he was not attractive. He was, but Caleana was enamored with Yvan instead, and looking at Luke’s face did not even make her heart skip a beat. Leah had made a great catch. It was a shame that their relationship had to end. Caleana valued her relationship with Yvan more than she did Leah’s with Luke.
Perhaps, after she had found Yvan, Leah could rekindle her relationship with Luke, and they could continue on with their happy relationship.
