A knock on the door interrupted the fight I was having with myself. I decided against opening it myself. “Come in.” I say slightly loud, so the person on the other side could hear. Though, they could hear me even if I was whispering. Werewolves have heightened hearing ability, it was dumb of me to forget that.
The girl who I learnt was Anya, comes in with another maid trailing behind her. She’s holding a black gown that goes down to the floor that has a sweetheart neckline. It looks dangerously low.
“It’s time, princess.” She smiles.
They made sure to cover everything I’d need for the ceremony later. From top to bottom I was covered in stuff that wasn't mine. They made me wear a diamond earring, Anya said it would look great and complete once I have the crown on. They also tied my hair up to perfection. I’ve never seen my hair this beautiful before. The maid carefully sculpted my face with light makeup that accentuated my features in all the right places. They made me wear heels that added more height to my figure, it made my legs look more lean and long. The gown hugs my body tight, with a slit starting from my mid thigh. My white hair goes perfectly with black.
It’s the color of Dad’s wolf. That became the motif color of the ceremony.
Before I could reach for the door, Anya called me back and handed me a box. My eyes grew wide when she opened it. “Sir Amoux asked me to give you this before you go.” She shows me a beautiful knife, with emerald stones embedded on the handle. It’s made of silver, that’s lethal to vampires, I guess the rumors were right. She prepares a sheath for me to put the knife in on my other thigh that’s covered. I feel more secure with it.
I was escorted down the main hall, where everyone gathered to see my Dad and Mom’s coronation. They stand there in front hand in hand, Mom is wearing a beautiful black ball gown, and Dad’s wearing an awfully formal black tuxedo. I’ve never seen them like this before, they look perfect.
Mom’s eyes glistened under the moonlight, when her eyes met mine. Her smile grew wide, she nudged Dad and nodded in my direction. Dad’s reaction is indescribable. He looks in awe of what he sees.
When I finally found my way in front, I stood beside Chris. He offered a hand, and I took it instinctively. “You look beautiful, Celeste.” He whispers in my ear. That got a giggle from me.
The ceremony starts with Dad and Mom proclaiming their oath, and vowing to handle the responsibility that comes with the crowns. They look like they’re getting married again. I couldn’t contain my smile.
After the Priest blessed them, Dad kneeled in front, to receive his crown. When it was Mom’s turn to kneel, Dad assisted her down to make sure she didn't fall. Even in front of everyone, he still takes good care of her.
They step up the platform where the thrones were. Howls filled the room as the Priest announced the new King and Queen of the Lycans. They couldn’t be more happy that their new King is Dad. He is beloved by everyone he knows, he’s a great person.
After the cheering subsided, Dad stood up to give a speech about werewolves and Lycans. He told a story dating back to the Great War and how we overcame it. “Of course, no Kingdom is complete without a Princess to rule alongside her parents.” He smiles my way, I could feel my heart thump loud as everyone’s attention turns to me. Chris leads me up the platform my parents were on. Mom offers me an encouraging smile, while Dad holds the tiara Anya was talking about. It was majestic, glistening under the moonlight perfectly with the diamonds surrounding the tiny gold laces. There were huge rubies that accentuated the tiara. It goes perfectly with white and gold.
I kneeled in front of Dad while Chris held my hand beside me. He places the tiara on my head, it fits perfectly with my hair.
The maid arranged it so the tiara would sit cozily without the fear of it falling off.
“My firstborn daughter.” He helps me up, with a huge smile on his face. “My people, I give you your Princess.”
Before I could react the moon set to position and lit up the statue of Goddess Luna in the middle. The wolves howled loud, marking the start of Dad’s transformation.
Chris pulled me gently, and started leading me in the middle. My eyes never left him until we were in position. The choir started singing the Wolf Song, a lullaby Mom sings to help me sleep at night. They took their first dance as King and Queen in front of everyone. Smiles never leave their faces while they move beautifully under the moonlight.
Chris suddenly offers a hand. “Would you like to dance with me?” He asks with a shy look on his face.
“Okay.” I accepted his hand, a smile crept to his lips, before leading me close to my parents. He positions a hand on my waist, the other holding my hand tightly. He led the dance at a slow and steady pace.
I’ve known Chris ever since we were little. He’s Amoux’s first born son, my best friend since I could remember. He’s unmated like me, because he spends most of his time training with his father.
My wolf’s heart suddenly starts thumping loud, I could hear it through my ears, and I know everyone around us hears it too. It’s not because of Chris, or our dance.
My wolf smells a familiar scent amongst the crowd, I tried looking for it discreetly but my view is blocked by people trying to get a glimpse of us dancing. I feel a lot of eyes on me, especially Chris’. The music stopped, and so did we, Chris and I curtsy down to my parents before meeting their gaze. Mom and Dad have the widest smiles on their faces. Dad pulls me in for a hug. “I’m so happy for you.” He whispers before pulling back.
He’s proud of me? “Congratulations son.” He and Chris shook hands. Wait, why is he congratulating Chris?
An elder walks up to us, nodding to my Dad before leading them outside. We followed their steps until we reached the forest. Amoux and the other leaders from the pack transformed into their wolves and they started howling, circling my Mom and Dad.
Dad suddenly let out a loud scream, I wanted to run to him, but Chris stopped me. Black furs started coming out of Dad’s face, and hands. His figure became bulkier, as he clawed his tuxedo apart, ripping it with one swift move. He looks a lot deadlier and menacing with sharp long canines and claws. Under a minute he transforms into a lycan. He was about to launch himself at Amoux when Mom started screaming, the same thing happened to her like Dad. Only her furs are golden, and a lot shinier. He immediately recognizes Mom, carrying her in his arms. Dad and Mom howled under the moon, they both looked magnificent, and scary. If they weren’t my parents I would scurry somewhere far.
My wolf feels intimidated by their howl, she’s succumbing to their powers. She bows down to my parents, as did all the wolves surrounding them. I walked cautiously to my parents, bending down a knee when I got close enough. Dad took a step closer, and started sniffing my hair. When he finally recognizes me, he lets out a growl. It wasn’t scary nor was he angry, it was to make me look up.
I’m face to face with his Lycan, Dad’s power is a lot more intimidating now up close. His eyes are glowing red, and his canines are sharper than my wolf’s claws.
I reach up to his crown slowly, careful not to make any unnecessary movement, his Lycan can easily rip me apart. He nods, before kneeling down so I can reach his head. That’s how tall Dad became.
I held his crown tight, this thing is heavier than my tiara by a lot. After removing his crown, Mom steps closer, she’s much easier to communicate with. Her soft heart stands above everything else. She also kneels down so I could take her crown. She nudged my arm a little, so I patted her soft fur before backing away.
Dad let out another loud howl that made everyone bow down, including my wolf before running deeper to the forest with Mom. Amoux and the others followed them until they’re out of sight.
That concludes the ritual. They have to tire their Lycans out so they can transform back to human form. Amoux and the skilled hunters have to make sure they’re safe during their first night transforming to Lycans.
“Escort these back safely please.” I handed the elders my parents’ crowns. “Chris, make sure the scouts are in position, we have to protect the kingdom until Mom and Dad return.” I shifted my gaze to Chris, he nodded in response, taking my hand on his and planted a soft kiss at the back of it.
People started walking back inside the castle to start the feast. I’m the only monarch left inside so I have to lead this right. The music stopped when the castle guard opened the door for me. “Her Royal Highness, Princess Accalia Celeste.” He announces. They curtsied when I entered the room, the elders simply nodded their heads in respect.
Everyone waited until I was close to my seat. “You have to bless the food.” An elder whispers to me. “Oh uh.” I went to the table and held out my palms. I need to gather a bit of mana to create a small light.
“Goddess Luna, we are your brothers and sisters, and we gather here in your name. In your love give us blessing, and bless this food for us. Help us to grow under your moon, and work with us to build up the Kingdom of Lyroan.”
The crowd erupted with applause and cheers, and the band started playing loud music again.
