Kadens POV
Kadens memories
She shifted back into her human form, her body covered in bruises from the fight.
“I’m so sorry, Kaden. I didn’t know how else to make her stop,” Ben said, guiltily.
“It’s alright. I just don’t understand what happened. She’s only eight, Ben! She’s an eight-year-old girl. She wasn’t ready to shift.”
He grabbed a nearby blanket and swooped her into his arms, placing her on the couch.
“I don’t know, Kaden, but there’s something even more concerning,” he frowned.
I looked at him with confusion. What could be more concerning than an eight-year-old shifting?
“Didn’t you see her fur? She’s a white wolf,” he whispered softly.
“f**k your right,” I exclaimed.

The next morning, Dad stayed sober for the first time in months. After catching him up on everything he missed after passing out drunk last night, he asked, “Are you sure she’s a white wolf?”
I shook my head. “No, I’m actually not sure. Ben said she was, but I was too busy trying to take her that I didn’t get a full view. She’s definitely white, though.”
He ran his fingers through his hair, a worried expression crossing his face.
We waited until the effects of the silver finally wore off and Evie slowly woke up from her slumber.
She yawned, rubbing her eyes and stretching.
“Owww,” she groaned as she moved her arms slightly.
“Be careful, Evie. You took quite the beating yesterday,” I whispered softly, caressing her tiny cheek.
“What do you mean by—“ a loud growl ripped through her throat.
Dad and I looked at each other.
“What was that?” she screamed. “Was that me?!”
We both nodded. “Yes, princess. It seems your wolf decided to come early.”
“But I don’t feel like I have a wolf?” I asked. “I don’t hear anything?”
“Can you feel the tether between you and your wolf, Evie?” she soothed her head.
“No,” I exclaimed.
“What about if you try—“ I was cut off again by a loud growl and the screams of ever once more. Her wolf must be the fastest shifter alive because her body shifted in a blink of an eye.
Her white wolf glared at us menacingly. “Evie, control your wolf.”
The wolf scoffed, its eyes flashing in warning. I knew then and there that this wasn’t Evie. Whoever this wolf was, if it was strong enough to completely take over, it was a formidable adversary.
“W-w-white she’s white, but how? Why?” stammered my father.
She growled once more and stalked forward, challenging us.
“We won’t fight you,” I shouted at her wolf. “If you care about your human counterpart, you’d know better than to fight in this state. She’s a child!”
But that didn’t deter her. She lunged at us again, her razor-sharp teeth aching for our blood.
We fought her until her legs trembled and her attacks became slower. Exhausted, the effect of the silver was still present, even though it had left her system.
Her wolf body collapsed in exhaustion, forcing a shift back into human form.
When Evie woke up, she hadn’t remembered what had happened or what she had done. As we suspected, her wolf took over and didn’t let her have any control.
That night, we made the decision to keep Evie in a controlled setting while her wolf adjusted to us and reality.
But to our shock, she never adjusted. Day and night, she didn’t let Evie rest. She forced shifts, threatened attacks, and demanded to be released.
One night, after visiting her in the holding room, I realized that this was out of our control. We needed help. So, I went upstairs to the Alpha office and sat in front of my father. He had bags under his eyes and his hair was a light shade of gray, but at least he wasn’t drinking anymore.
“What can I help you with, son?” Dad asked, not looking up from the paper he was writing.
“We can’t deal with this alone,” I said. “I think we should reach out to the royal family for some assistance with Evie.”
Dad looked up from his paper, his eye seemingly twitching with disapproval.
“Help? You think they care to help? Your sister would get ripped away from us! And they’ll do much worse than just keeping her in a cemented room!” He growled angrily.
“Perhaps they have a healer who could help. She deserves to live! Keeping her in a room isn’t life for her!” I shouted at him.
He pinched the bridge of his nose, and the room fell into a tense silence.
“I hate it when you’re right,” he muttered angrily under his breath.
“I’ll notify him first thing tomorrow morning,” he said.
*Next memory*
“The king has returned to me and has ordered that we send her wolf into a dormant state just before she turns 18,” he stated.
“Really? Doesn’t he want to bring a healer first? Doesn’t that negatively affect a wolf?” he shrugged.
“He confirmed that it didn’t, and he also wanted this to remain between us. Please don’t go opening your mouth, boy, not to anyone!” he growled. I shook my head.
“I won’t,” I said.
He walked into the cemented room, his eyes flashing with the eyes of his wolf. “Dad, it’s not safe to be in here. Please leave, Dad. Please,” Evie begged.
“I’m sorry, I have to do the pumpkin, and I hope your wolf will forgive me,” he said. Her eyes widened as he stepped forward.
Fur started sprouting from her body. Her wolf was about to force another shift.
He grabbed her by the neck. “I, Alpha Daniel Hawthorne, command the wolf of Evie Hawthorne to become dormant!” he commanded.
Evie clutched her chest as she screamed in agony. She fell to her knees, and I came to her side.
“Breathe, Evie, breathe,” I instructed.
After a few hours, her breathing stilled, and she closed her eyes in exhaustion. It had been two years of trying to sedate her wolf, and nothing had worked.
And that was the end of her nightmare. The wolf that wouldn’t obey her human counterpart was put to stay dormant until her 18th birthday.
*End of memory*
“You, you bastard!” the king muttered angrily.
“He lied!” the king growled in my face. I had seen the same memories as him. My mind couldn’t wrap around what I had just seen.
“I would never have ordered such a thing! Who orders such a thing?!” the king shouted angrily.
“What did you see?” Nathan asked.
“I saw— I saw more than enough!” he shouted in disbelief.
“That no good, f*****g Alpha lied to his own son!”
He turned to Evie, “I’m so sorry, your father failed you. I would never order for your wolf to go dormant!”
The room filled with gasps.
“Father wasn’t perfect, but he wouldn’t lie!” I growled. The king shook his head, his eyes glaring at me, and his index finger pointed at me.
“You better rephrase your words because there’s only one liar here. If I knew, if I knew Evie had shifted, I would have taken her under our wing, brought a healer like you suggested to your father. Keeping her dormant was not the answer!” He shouted angrily.
“And then what? Would you have locked her up? Kept her in a jail cell like he had originally told me? Or would you have done worse, kept her as your monstrous experiment?” Kaden yelled.
“You’re not understanding, boy. A white wolf is a gift from the goddess’s. When something is beyond our control, it’s usually our first sign that the moon goddess has sent them to lend a hand in whatever the darkness is plotting. Now, because your father has decided her wolf going dormant was the answer! She may be rabid, she may be worse! And with that kind of strength.” The king exhaled.
“It could destroy us all.” He mumbled under his breath.
He turned to Evie, “When that girl turns 18, her magical abilities will wake. Dormant or not, that wolf will come out to the surface! That was only a temporary solution!”
Evie stayed frozen in the center of the storm, her eyes darting from me to the king as we yelled at each other.
“So what now? What’s your master plan now?” I asked the king.
His face was so red, I thought it would burst. If his ears could let out smoke, they could.
He pinched the bridge of his nose.
“The girl comes back with me.”
“No!” We all yelled in unison.
“She needs healers. She needs to let that wolf out, and you don’t have the means here. You tried for two years. I’m taking her with me, and we’ll make sure she’s taken care of.”
She shook her head in shock. “No, please, my King. Please no!”
“If you don’t come back with me you’d be disobeying my orders” he growled at every one of us. His word was final there was no changing his mind.
Mira sobbed silently and went over to hug Evie from behind while Ben clinged onto her from the front.
“You’ll be treated well Evie you have my word” The King spoke his last words before him and his family exited the office leaving Evie in the most distress I’ve ever seen her in.
