Chapter 11

Nathan’s POV Dam, I messed up. Our feisty little mate wasn’t happy with me last night, but it’s a win for me that she wasn’t happy with that beta either. However, something happened yesterday when she yelled at me something I can’t comprehend. Something flashed in her eyes, and my wolf recognized those eyes as his mate. But she’s only 17? She’s not due to shift until her 18th birthday, so what the hell is going on? Only royals are known to shift early, but she doesn’t have a royal bloodline, at least not that I’m aware of. I told Noah, and he agreed that something is going on. If she has shifted, why doesn’t she feel the bond, why doesn’t she recognize us as mates? “Father, meet me and Noah inside my room. I have something to talk to you about,” I linked him. With my father and brother in my room, I want to give my father an update. “I’ve called this meeting because we have information from Hilltop about our stay there. They informed us that a rogue who has been imprisoned mentioned that the king is trying to locate a white wolf.” “A white wolf hasn’t been seen in centuries,” Father spoke. “Well, they have sources telling them otherwise. If it’s true, someone is hiding it, and has put multiple packs in danger. We should have been notified immediately of a white wolf being born!” “So, the packs they have targeted are packs they have assumed the white wolf is at. But if someone is hiding it, would they have used it in battle? That seems like a stretch,” Father said, scratching his chin. He’s right. If the white wolf had surfaced, would it even have fought if it was in hiding? “Maybe they felt like if the attack was strong, they’d have to use them. I mean, white wolves are known for their powerful abilities,” Noah said. “Well, look into it further and send word to all the packs,” Father said, his eyebrows creasing together. “I say we start the investigation here. There’s something off about this place,” I told Father. “What do you feel or what do you know?” Father’s eyes darted from me to Noah. Yesterday, I provoked that girl, Evelyn, without wanting to make it obvious that we’ve taken an interest in her. My dad’s eyes narrowed, and he said, “Leave that poor girl alone. She’s gone through enough without you.” I held up a hand. “Hold up. So, I teased her a little about that beta she likes so much, and when she went to the garden, my wolf could have sworn he saw wolf eyes flash at him. It was quick, but they were there.” I could see the wheels turning in my father’s mind. His eyebrow shot up. “She’s 17. She shouldn’t have a wolf.” “Precisely. This pack is hiding something,” I pointed out again. My father’s eyes narrowed, and a new determination flashed across his face. He wouldn’t hurt her; she’s a pup, but everyone else involved, I couldn’t be so sure. “I’ll get to the bottom of it. I don’t like being lied to,” he growled. He swung the door open and linked us all. “I need the royal family and the Alpha family in an emergency meeting right now in Alpha Kadens office!” he commanded. * * Shit, I hope we did the right thing. Father stormed down the stairs to the Alpha office with us in tow. Alpha Kaden and his Luna arrived at the office at the same time as we did. Both their faces were laced with confusion. While Father’s deadly aura pushed forward, Noah questioned, “Did we mess up by telling him?” “I guess we’ll find out soon enough,” I exhaled as we entered the office. “What is the meaning of this? Why the sudden emergency meeting? I demand to know,” Kaden snarled. “You’ll know soon enough! And I would fix your tone,” Father said, his voice as cold as ice. Mom rushed in next, still in her pajamas. “What is the meaning of this, Harold? You know I don’t do well with emergency meetings. I need time to get dressed!” she whined, making my dad pinch the bridge of his nose. Luna Mira laughed, “I think you look perfect, my queen.” Mom waved her hand in playful dismissal. We were only waiting for Evie. I could smell her nearby. Her fresh scent of strawberries and vanilla was too intoxicating to ignore. She burst into the room, her leggings clinging to her like a second skin, and her red tank top revealing her slender neck. My wolf instincts flared, and I couldn’t help but growl, “Mark Mate! Mark her now!” I was so captivated by her that I didn’t notice Ben standing right behind her. He was dressed in basketball shorts and a tank top, and I couldn’t help but wonder why they were all wearing similar attire. “She’s mine!” my wolf growled possessively. “Calm your wolf down now!” Nathan growled in the link. “I think I made it clear in the link that only the Alpha family and royals are allowed to attend this meeting!” Father growled at her. My attention shifted to him, the king, but he wasn’t going to talk to my mate that way. “I was already with Ben when you called the meeting. We were taking a jog around the territory, he’s not part of the family by bloodline, but he’s family,” she responded. “She’s right. He’s my Beta and my right-hand man. He deserves to be here just as much as anyone else,” Kaden snapped. Nathan and I scoffed loudly. “Very well then, but if there’s any punishment to be owed after this meeting, he’ll be part of it too,” Father spoke. Her eyes darted from Ben to Kaden, and she quickly said, “No, never mind. Ben, please step out.” He shook his head. “We’re family, and you know that whatever they think we did, I’m sure I was part of it,” Ben said to Evelyn. “Awe,” all the women in the room chorused. “Ben,” Evelyn breathed, a hand lifting to her chest in genuine awe. Her smile glowed as she looked at him like he’d just uncovered a secret of the universe. Noah let out an exaggerated scoff and crossed his arms, side-eyeing them. “Oh, how noble of you,” he muttered. Father rolled his eyes. “Very well then. Let the meeting begin.” His voice boomed…
