Evelyn’s POV
“Wake up! Please, Evie, please wake up,” says a voice. My body feels heavy; it’s been run over by a truck.
“That’s it, Evie, wake up,” says a soft voice.
I groan; the antiseptic smell assaults my nose and burns my nostrils slightly. My head still hurts, and the sound of my wolf’s growls is not helping.
“Evie !!” The voice says a little louder.
My eyes feel like sandpaper as I rub them slightly.
“Where am I?” I groan to myself.
“You’re in the pack hospital; you’re safe,” says the voice.
A warm hand touches mine, and I manage to look over at a girl with brown hair, brown eyes, and high cheekbones staring at me with concern?
“Evie,” she says softly.
And that’s all it took to have all my memories come back to me.
The attack, my father dying, and my wolf.
Tears formed in my eyes. “It’s okay, Evie; it’s okay,” Mira said, wrapping me up in her arms. “Tell me it was a dream, Mira; tell me my dad didn’t die,” I tell her.
“ I can’t do that, sweet girl,” she whispers softly in my ear.
“He died an honorable death fighting for who he loved,” she says to me.
I tucked my head into Mira’s neck and let the tears fall; my chest ached; my father, Alpha Daniel, had officially passed.
I don’t know how long I stayed wrapped up in her arms in wrecked sobs, but she allowed me to just cry, cry all the pain away while rubbing my back soothingly.
“Did anyone else die that night?” I whimpered softly.
She tightened her arms. “Many warriors died that night.”
“Oh, goddess, how’s Kaden?” I asked in panic.
“He’s been a mess, not only with the loss of the soldiers but he didn’t know what effects your wolf might have done to you,” she said, tucking me back into her chest.
“How was it? Or better yet, how was she?” I asked, pulling away slightly.
“I’ve never seen anything like her; she fought with precision but also didn’t recognize her pack. Kaden had to clear the way because she just—.” she hesitated before continuing, and her eyes softened.
“Wanted to kill everyone,” I sighed.
“Yeah? Maybe a little,” she frowned slightly.
“But on the bright side, she didn’t kill any pack members. Kaden made sure to clear the path and linked them to get out of her way,” she told me.
“So when did she stop?” I questioned with curiosity.
She shifted awkwardly, rubbing her neck slightly. “She didn’t. She was covered in blood and had all kinds of injuries. Your wolf ran through the territory and stayed to the north, and our warriors stayed on the south after all the rogues in the north were dead. The rogues on the south retreated, and when there were no rogues to fight, she turned on the pack. Kaden was the one that took a few hits from you when he injected you with silver. Then she finally shifted back, but you were left in rough shape,” she said sadly.
I exhaled. “Thank the goddess for Kaden,” my voice cracking.
The door swung open. My jaw dropped when I saw him. He looked like he had grown two sizes overnight. “And what is it you’re thanking me for?” Kaden asked with a small smile.
“Kaden,” I sniffled.
He came over to my side and wrapped me up in his strong arms. I peeked over at Mira, watching as her lips tugged into a gentle smile.
“Thank the goddess you’re okay,” he whispered in my ear. A
He’s always been an amazing brother, I think better than I deserve if I’m being honest.
Between Kaden and Mira, they’ve been like second parents to me. They’re both 29 years old, and this year was actually going to be the year they take on their rightful place as Alpha and Luna of our pack. Dad didn’t want to give up his alpha position until Kaden found his mate, and since he had finally found Mira, it was time for Dad to retire, and we were supposed to go live somewhere just me and him, but I guess now it’s just me.
I frowned. We had so many plans we won’t get to fulfill.
New tears started to form, and the monitors started going haywire.
Kaden pulls away rapidly. “What’s wrong, Evie?”
The nurse comes running in.
“Dr., we need a Dr!!” Yells a nurse.
My teeth begin to elongate. “Please be careful. I can’t control it—ahh!!” I cry out as a large man in a white coat runs in. “She’s shifting!! Stop your shift now. It’s not safe!” He yells at me.
“I can’t. She doesn’t listen.” I tell him in panic.
“ Get the silver now!!” He yells as my claws elongate and my fur starts to sprout. I throw all the monitors away from me, sending them flying across the room. A loud growl resounds against my chest. She’s about to surface.
“No!” Kaden roars. “Put down the silver. I’ll take care of her myself!” He shouts. He strides towards me, grabbing my face harshly and looking straight into my eyes.
My wolf growls at him and tries to break through for control. “I, Alpha Kaden of Stone Brook Pack, command you to stay dormant until further notice!” He roars, pushing out his deadly aura at me.
I whimper loudly, but my wolf fights against his command, growling inside my chest as she twists and turns in defiance.
“You’d do well not to test your sibling now. Do as you’re told and remain dormant!” His wolf growls at her.
Pain ripples through my chest. I feel the echoes of her growls rummaging through me. She’s clawing at my mind, trying to break the command. Kaden’s dark eyes stay locked on mine as the growls grow distant. Until I hear a final loud whimper in the back of my mind.
He did it.
I let out an exhausted breath. He lets go of me, placing me gently on the bed.
“When you turn 18, we’ll try again. She can’t stay this angry forever,” Kaden reassures me. Placing a kiss on my forehead.
I sighed, nodding my head slightly. He doesn’t know her, and he doesn’t know about the rage she feels. She most certainly can be angry for the rest of her life.
