I held his gaze for a long while, my chest heaving as the silence in the room seemed to fill my entire being.
He pulled away from me, then went back to his original position on the bed, his stance now a bit more relaxed, but his eyes were still as menacing as ever.
I bit down on my lips hard. It felt like ice water had been poured on me now that he accepted my request. I found my little foolish heart worrying for Kyle, for the people who have offered me oranges once after my mother died at the stake.
"Regret already?"
I turned to him, my lips parting. "No," I replied, my voice conveying the confidence that I wasn't even sure I felt. "I... what do I do now?"
He raised a brow, his eyes holding mine. He seemed a little distracted, but his eyes soon came to focus on mine, and he gave a small nod.
"Rid me of these clothes."
I swallowed hard, my eyes dropping to his body. He was already shirtless, his broad shoulders and sculpted stomach staring right back at me. The only piece of clothing that was remaining was right below.
I moved closer, the scent of his coat around me still filling me up. I had never done this, not even with Kyle.
I reached out to his waist, my eyes looking up to his. He was cold, emotionless, and I swallowed hard, then looked down to what I was doing.
My hand was a trembling mess, my eyes slowly filling with tears as the realization of what I had done hit me. Mother would have hated this, but hell, I was avenging her too.
I slowly reached for the belt, then opened it and slipped it out, my eyes looking up to his again. He was watching me, like he was waiting for me to stop. Like he was banking on me to stop.
I couldn't stop. Not when he was the key to everything I have ever wanted.
The belt dropped to the floor, and I started reaching for the button when his hand held mine, stopping me from going any further.
I looked up, expecting him to say something, but he only held my hand, and said nothing else.
Maybe he wanted something else?
I leaned towards him, channelling all of my confidence. He didn't move or budge, and I slowly covered the distance to his lips, my eyes still wide open, my heart threatening to break out of my chest.
I could feel his breath on my skin, his scent on my blood. I parted my lips, ready to take him in, when his voice reached me, sending dark vibrations to my skin, and causing me to look up to him.
"Leave," he said quietly, his voice a low, dark growl. "You will be given a room and every neccessity. We will be returning to the palace by morning."
I swallowed, blinking hard, my lips still parted, a mere half inch away from his.
"You... you don't... want this?"
He turned his head, till I could barely breathe, till it was barely the width of a hair strand between the both of us.
I nodded my understanding, but something held me back there, my eyes darting across both of his, my cheat heaving.
"I... I apologize," I managed to croak out, then leaned away, my hands still shaky, my mind a confused mess.
A knock came on the door, and I stood up, wrapping his coat around the dress I had torn up.
A woman walked in and bowed respectfully, her hands respectfully clasped in front of her.
"Yes, Your Majesty?"
"Give her everything," he said to her, his eyes still fixed on me.
"Yes, Your Majesty," she said, then immediately turned to me. "Please come, ma'am."
It was the first time in my life that I was treated like a human. Like I was something. And as I followed the woman away, his expensive coat still hanging on my shoulder, I knew, despite everything that would eventually follow, that I had made the right choice.
I stopped by the door and slowly turned to him, my lips parting. He was still sitting on the edge of the bed, his eyes so cold they looked dead, but he was staring at me too. Like prey. Like his victim.
I turned and walked away, knowing deep down I was prepared to be anything he wanted me to be.
The woman, probably an assistant or so, led me to the room right next to the one where I knew His Majesty was.
She opened the door and stepped aside, and I hesitated for a second before walking inside.
It wasn't as large as His Majesty's, but it was at least as big as the entire dilapidated house my mother and I lived in back in the pack before she died.
My eyes filled with tears as I walked further in, my vision blurring as I took in everything. The massive bed, the dresser, the mirror, the flower vases.
My mother would have loved this. She loved to stare in the mirror, but we never even had one.
"What would you like for dinner, ma'am?"
I turned to the assistant. "I... can I... get everything available?"
I wanted for her judgement, but she only nodded. "Yes, ma'am. I shall make sure of that. I will run a bath and provide you with clean clothes. We will also sort out your clothing by morning. Is there anything else you want?"
My heart seemed to swell, and I shook my head. She smiled, bowed lightly, then turned away, leaving me standing there, my heart on my sleeve.
I turned to look at the majestic room again, taking in the sort of luxury that even Alpha Kyle wasnt used to, and slowly, I went to my knees. I had to give up everything to come here. I had to lose everyone to come here. And I will make sure to not regret it.
