PEARL’S POV He stands in the middle of the room with his hands pushed into his pockets. The words rolled off his tongue expertly, stopping me in my tracks. “Huh?” I blink, shaking my head to get my head back into the conversation. “Have a seat, please” He states walking back to his seat. I hesitate a little before walking away from the pole. “I…uh..was supposed to…” I trail off, pointing at the pole. “I don’t bite Pearl” My name rolls of his tongue and nod, shaking my head as my brain goes slightly foggy. “Yeah…you ain’t gon’ do that…I just…” I stutter “You know what? Imma just take my seat” I state walking towards the soft cushion and taking my seat. The utter silence that follows afterwards makes a pit in my stomach and I don’t know why I’m so nervous. Maybe it is because I have never been in the presence of someone like this. He clears his throat as he takes his seat. “I am not going to beat around the bush with you Miss Pearl, I have a proposal for you. And I think it would be quite beneficial to the both of us” He states. “Proposal?” I frown. “Yes a proposal” He nods. “What proposal?” He let’s out a deep sigh, nodding towards the people around to excuse us. Immediately they were out of the room he pulls out a piece of paper and places it on the table. I frown as I stare the what was boldly written at the top. MARRIAGE PROPOSAL. “Uh… what’s going on?” I raise a brow. “I need you to be my wife” He states adjusting his stance on the chair. His face held no emotion as he looked at me, probably waiting for a response. A small chuckle escapes my mouth and it turns into a full blown laugh as I begin to howl in laughter. I don’t know how long I was laughing for, but my stomach was beginning to hurt and I knew I had to stop now. My laughter dies down as I stare at him again. He wasn’t laughing too, and his face held a stoic expression. “Wait…you serious?” I ask. “Name your price” He mutters, his Adams apple moving up and down as he gulps. “Okay Mr. Bass, first of all, I don’t think you understand what you’re asking me to do. Because if you do-“ I begin but he cuts me off again “Ten billion” He states making the words hang in my throat. “Whoa, hold on a minute” I draw my lip in a thin line as I look down on my exposed lap I shouldn’t be having such conversations dressed like this. “Why do you want to marry me though?” I squint my eyes. “Don’t flatter yourself it’s nothing too serious, it’s just beneficial to me as it is beneficial to you” He states with a shrug and I don’t stop the scoff that escapes my mouth. “Don’t be ridiculous, if I wasn’t good enough I won’t be sitting here with some dumb marriage proposal sitting on the table, talk to me with a little respect” I scold glaring at him. He let’s out a small chuckle and sniff “You’ve got guts, I like that” He states, almost like he was talking to himself and I roll my eyes. “I think we are done here” I state standing to my feet. “Miss Pearl” “Nuh huh, no! I ain’t gon’ seat here and watch you insult me just because you got better then me. I was doing mighty fine before you knew me and I would just fine without you!” I yell through the room before walking towards the door. I hear footsteps behind me and a hand grabs my hand stopping me in my tracks. “Let me go!” I yell at his face and he steps back. “I’m sorry, Okay….I have had a bad day and I…” He pants “I just need help” I blink, just looking at him not saying a single word. “Let’s just seat and we can just discuss it” He states and I blink rapidly. I took my time to look deep in his eyes, my eyes wavering around his face. He looked a little lost, it wasn’t there it was there. What was going on with him? And why does he need me as a wife? And why does he want it so fast? I furrow my brows and I sigh. “Fine” I sigh walking back to my seat. “Thank you” He mutters taking his seat and clasping his fingers together. “Why do you want this so bad?” I ask out of curiosity. “I can’t go into the details right now, but I don’t even know how to explain it, just please Pearl name your price and I would pay you any price” He explains. “Look, this is too sudden Mr. Bass-“ “Alexander…..Call me Alex” He mutters politely and I awkwardly nod. “Alex, this is too sudden and I barely know you and I don’t even know the risks attached to all of this” I state, tucking the stray curl to the back of my ear. “There are no risks, this contract covers everything you would need, you can go through it and make any changes you want to change and we can discuss it. I just need you to agree” He explains, pushing the contract towards me My eyes scan the contract and I grow a little weary. As thoughts run through my head. “Look, I got a kid and a sick father that I have to look after, I don’t think I would need this right now” “You can continue to live your life Pearl, there is nothing else attached to this, I just need to sort some things out and you I’ll be out of your life” He was beginning to sound desperate. “I…” “Twenty billion, Pearl” He cuts me off and I sigh. “I’ll have to think about it. Alex” I state and rush out of the room and closing the door behind me. I let out a deep sigh. That man is as weird as a vaccine.
