ALEXANDER’S POV There are a lot of things one would have to realize as time goes on. As time moves on its way towards oblivion, there are just a lot of things that you get to realize on time and the things that you find out too late. Immediately I walked out of their conversation that day, my brain had gone into override. I didn’t know what to think or what to feel, everything came crashing down faster than it should and for the first time in my life I didn’t know what move to make. For the first few hours I was blank. While I drove to work, I almost got into an accident four times in the space of thirty minutes. Almost lost two contracts and signed the wrong documents. Our stocks dropped by two percent and now we’re tying with our rival company. I thought hard about every little thing, and every single detail. I never once did anything to hurt her, I’m very certain. I didn’t cheat on her or berate her like the said her ex did. So why would she do this to me? Why would she want to ruin my life. And what’s worse, even my own mother is in on it. All for what? For money? She is willing to throw away her own son…for money? I couldn’t wrap my head around it. Later that day I didn’t know why I found myself in a strip club but I did. I was hurt, I was angry, and I still am. The whole contract marriage thing, came after the second glass of scotch. I wanted to get them back one way or another, I thought to just get them arrested and have them killed for attempting to kill my already sick father. But then I thought, I could just beat them at their own game. I called my assistant to get the contract ready and I printed it out in the Manager’s office and I asked for the best of their catalog of strippers and a feisty black American woman came walking through that door I wanted to change my mind almost immediately, I was so close to sending for another one, until she spoke. In that very moment I knew that this was the kind of woman that I would want for this contract. She was so outspoken and wasn’t ready to take any snide or snarky comments that seemed like insults. She responded like she was ready for anything and I just knew she would be the one. The one that would help me avenge my father. That’s why every second after she left the lounge that day…I prayed. For the first time in my life, I actually prayed that she agreed. And honestly, I hope she does. PEARL’S POV “You gotta do it girl!” Myst nudges my shoulder as I wash the dishes. I had just told her about the whole contract thing with Alexander Bass and I think imma need new ear drums. I roll my eyes before I respond “Uh…no, ain’t gon’ do that, I ain’t ready to get mixed up with those rich folks shenanigans. I got a kid and a sick father to take care, I ain’t no need for no drama girl” I state, moving around the kitchen to put the washed dishes in place. “Come on girl! Think about it…..twenty billion is on the line here, that could settle you for life and you ain’t gon’ need to work two jobs no more” She whines, standing to block my path. “Fine, let’s say I do it…but don’t you think it suspicious? Why would you want to splash that much money on some contract?” I raise my brows, softly moving her out of the way. She let’s out a frustrated groan and runs her hand through her hair. “But I’m a little curious though….” I begin “He looked quite desperate too, I mean, I feel like if I had said he should get on his knees, girl he wouldda” I shake my head. She walks closer to me, and pokes her head from behind me. “Aren’t you curious enough to find out why?” She drags and I roll my eyes, dropping the sponge. “I am curious, ain’t gon’ lie, but I don’t wanna get involved in that s**t” I respond. “Think about it girl, your father’s hospital bed space was due two months ago, you still haven’t paid and the only reason your Dad ain’t on the floor yet, is because the old nurse loves you, but then she retires next week and then you got no more help from her…what are you gonna do then?” She asks as she stands akimbo. My hands stop midway through the sink as I actually think about it. “Dang it! I never really thought of that” I blurt, wiping my hand on my apron and rushing out of the kitchen. “Where are you going?” Myst calls out. “To save my father’s life” I call back, grabbing my phone off the bed and dialing the number that was on the card. He picks on the first ring and I frown slightly. “Bass” He mutters calmly into the phone and for a second my words got caught in my throat. “Uh…hi” I mutter, clearing my throat, knowing I sounded a little weird. “Can I…see you, like right now?” I grimace as I wait for his response. “Yeah…sure….I can come to you, just text me the address-“ He begins but I cut him off. “No! I would come to you, just text me the address” I state and I cut the call. “MYST!” I yell and she pokes her head from the doorway. “Time for a make over!” She glees practically shoving me into the bathroom. The whole makeover takes up to an hour and the ride to the address he gave took longer than I expected. I was allowed into the office faster than I could cut through a long line at the entrance of a club. Now it just made me more curious as to why he would want to do this. Of course I am doing this for my father and I have planned to ask for some upfront payment before getting into it, so I could pay for my father’s bed space. Utter silence passes between us in his huge office as he keeps his eyes on me, not saying anything and creeping me out. But I square my shoulders and I clear my throat before speaking. “So… about that contract…why do need it so desperately?” I ask. “I can’t go into the details because I don’t think you would understand, but I know this is some sort of weird bargain, but I have you know that this is my last resort” He states, his Adams apple moving up and down. I roll my eyes. “Okay fine, How long is this contract going to last?” I raise my brows. “A year” He responds, his gaze still unwavering. “Can I get an upfront payment?” I chip in “Immediately” He states, still unwavering. “Okay” I hesitantly respond. “But let’s get this straight, no feelings involved, and no strings attached, I don’t want to get involved in your rich shenanigans…I hope we both clear on that?” I let out. I just had to let it out there “You have my word, Miss Gates” He responds. “Gimme the damn contract” I mutter. You’re doing this for your Father Pearl.
