** EVA'S POV ** It had been about a month that I lost my job and I was getting tired of being rejected in every interview that I attended. My phone rang with an unknown number. I picked up the call Me – “Hello?" Caller – “Lady I wanna eat ice-cream and I want you to come." I chuckled at the little commanding voice that boomed through the phone it was none other than the little rascal called 'Max'. Me – “OK my lord. Where shall I meet you?" Max – “Let me know your address I will ask my driver to pick you up then we will go to my favorite ice-cream parlor'. I provided my address and hung up to get ready. Max was like a breath of fresh air, a saving grace in the situation that I was in, he kept my spirits up when I almost started to give up. Max came to pick me up in 45 min and the little devil took me to 'Ebby's Creaven' the best ice-cream parlor in town. We had ice-cream and Max wanted to play in the kids' playground. Once we were done playing, Max clutched my hand and started to drag me around saying he wanted to have cake. I refused as he just had Ice-cream “It’s not good to have only sugary stuff Max you had ice-cream and that's enough sweet for today." Max looked down at his feet and mumbled in a voice which was almost a whisper “It’s my birthday today... so just for today..." he trailed off. I gasped in shock thinking how 'his parents can’t even spend the birthday of their child. Was business more important than this little bundle of joy?' I agreed to his request but put a condition that I will be baking the cake for him, he nodded and took me to his home. We went inside the kitchen as Max wanted to help me with the cake. He ordered all the maids and guards to not breathe a word about this to his dad and they all obliged looking at how happy he is. We made our way to the kitchen and started working on the chocolate cake while Max kept dipping his little hands in melted chocolate and almost covered himself in chocolate. We baked a chocolate cake and had a little celebration of our own with the maids and guards. Max tired himself out by running around a lot and ended up sleeping on my lap while we watched his favorite movie. I picked him up in my arms and asked the maid for Max's room and tucked him in his bed. It was 10 PM and his parents were still not home. I left wondering how lonely Max must be feeling every day. Max was occupying my thoughts a lot more than my own problems.   ** DAN'S POV ** I was sitting at my desk when Leo came into my office “Dan do you know what day it is?" I looked up at him “Is there a meeting that we have today?" Leo sighed in exasperation "Are you f*****g kidding me...?" Furrowing my brows “Do I look like I am kidding? Now stop beating around the bush...tell me what is so important about this day that?" Leo cursed under his breath "Damn it, Dan it’s your son Max's birthday. I know you love him, keeping aside the fact that he reminds you of HER, it’s not his fault that he came into this world and he has HER eyes. You need to show your love to him, Dan, he needs his father, he needs your love, care, and attention. You don't wanna put him up for adoption and neither are you willing to get married to get a mom for him nor let him live with your parents, also you are not spending time with him... He doesn't deserve this Dan." I slammed my fists on my desk and got up from my chair and strode towards Leo with anger burning in every cell of my body held him by his collar and spit out with clenched teeth "Don't you ever dare say what you just said Leo, I know he is my responsibility, I know he is MY SON and I remember it every waking day of my life. Just coz I forgot his birthday doesn't mean I don't love him." I pushed him away and pinched the bridge of my nose and sighed annoyingly. Leo pat my back and told me "Go home Dan and show Max that love he so deserves." I packed my stuff and made my way to my car and had my driver drive me to a toy shop and bought a lot of toys, being at the shop made me realize that I didn't know anything about Max's likes and dislikes as I was completely lost as to what to buy. I drove down to the best cake shop and bought a cake and made my way home. Once I reached home, I was shocked to find a piece of cake on the kitchen counter the cake looked like a homemade one and it looked as though a little fight took place in the kitchen. All the maids had left for the day so there was no way for me to know what happened. I ran up to Max's room and found him sleeping peacefully with a smile on his face. He looked like he was having a happy dream. I kept all the toys which were gift wrapped in his room and made my way down to the kitchen. The piece of cake lying on the countertop looked tempting so I decided to take a bite and damn it was yum. The flavors mixed with chocolate exploded in my mouth and I could not stop myself from finishing the piece off. I thought to myself 'The cake was not from a famous cake shop it was just a homemade cake the person who baked it must definitely be a PRO.' and licked the chocolate stuck on my fingers with a smile on my lips. This is the first time in forever that something as little as a cake made me smile wholeheartedly. I was like a little boy whose heart was dancing with joy.
