Chapter Two

Tina's POV The flight to New York was long and tiring. The first things I noticed once I was out of the plane were the tall buildings, crowd and busy streets. Not bad. I didn't realize that I was staring at the scenario ahead of me for too long until someone tapped me on my shoulder. I turned around to see who it was and was greeted by a beautiful woman in her late 50's. She had hazel brown eyes and wavy shoulder- length brown hair. "Is this yours?" She smiled as she politely asked me, handing a scarlet Chanel purse and what looked like mine. I checked my hands. Crap. I forgot I had a purse with me. Did I just forget my purse their on my seat? How will I survive here in the busiest city in the world if I was this careless? Gosh... I was so stupid. "I saw this on your seat when you're already out of the plane. Good thing you haven't gone far." She said kindly. I looked at the purse, she was holding out to me. And that was really mine. Thank God she was so kind and generous. "Yes, it's mine. Thank you so much." I said as I got my purse from her grasp. "Thank you again." I thanked her again. She just smiled at me in response. "I gotta go." She said and walked away. I hadn't even gotten her name. *** I made it to the building where my apartment would be. I made sure to have a comfortable place to stay in before I would decide to live somewhere far from my country. My first reaction when I got out of the cab and came face to face with the building was... Wow. The apartment building was so huge and tall. It had eight floors and has unique and exquisite exterior designs. Clean and shiny glasses covered the exterior. It was just so amazing. I entered the lobby. If the outside was already beautiful, the inside was more than that. The walls were painted white and marble floor was below my shoes-clad feet. There was an L-shaped sofa and a coffee table at the center of the lobby and flower vases at the corners. I walked towards the receptionist with the name tag that said "Maia" and asked where my apartment was located. It was on the top floor across the other one. So, that meant there were only two apartments on the top floor. I thanked Maia and proceeded to the elevator. "Ding." The elevator door opened and I walked to search for my apartment room. I walked along the hallway until I found it. I opened the door and walked inside. The first thing I saw was the living room painted in a beige color. In the living room was a black couch, love seats on both sides and a coffee table with a flower vase on top of it. There was also a flat screen TV attached to the wall across in front of the sala set. Walking upstairs, there was a door to my left, which I opened to reveal my bedroom. Ahead was a balcony and to my left was another door which led to the bathroom. I made the right choice, I guessed. My bed was a queen-sized, much bigger than my own back at home. It had light blue covers and pillows. There was a bookshelf on the right side of my bed, full of books waiting for me to read them. My walk-in closet was located at the right corner of my bedroom while the bathroom was on the left. I threw my purse on my bed, put my suitcases on the floor, removed my boots and began to unpack. *** An hour later, I finished unpacking and thought I needed a warm bath. My bathroom was so spacious with a large rectangular mirror at the left above the sink. Lotions, shampoos, bar soaps, body washes, comb, ethyl alcohols, Sanitizers, creams, shave and other things for personal hygiene were arranged neatly on the sink below the mirror. A first aid kit was stored inside the cabinet on the left. I opened the shower curtain and gasp. A Jacuzzi has been at the center and a shower head above it. Towels are hung neatly in the corner. Wow. That was just so amazing_ way better than my bathroom back in the Philippines. With no hesitations, I undressed and took a warm bath. *** Almost an hour later, I walked out of the bathroom with a pink fluffy towel wrapped around my body. I walked into my closet and picked my nightgown. After I got dressed in my night clothes, I realized I was so tired. With that, I walked towards my bed, slid inside the covers and snuggled to its comfort and softness. Not so long after, I drifted to sleep and fell into deep slumber. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Axel's POV Another tiring and boring day as usual. I was in my office finishing word documents on my Mac laptop. I look at my Rolex watch and it said 6:00 pm. I still had an hour left before our family dinner. Well, I would go this time to that family dinner because my Mom was really angry when I declined her offer last night when she called me. She just arrived home from the Philippines conducting a medical mission and she wanted us to have a get -together. I wondered why they still invited me. I would always make up reasons and excuses whenever they wanted me to go with them on outings, dinners and parties. I have not done those things often. But now I thought I had to go and join them. I didn't have much work anyway. I finished the last paper and organized my things back to their place neatly. Yes, I was a neat freak. I didn't like being disorganized. I even showered two or three times a day. I walked out of my office and entered my personal elevator. When I had reached the parking lot, I smiled as my baby came into view. I miss you so much even if it's just a day. I love my baby Ashi so much. Oh, by the way, she was not a baby as in a human of course. She was a shiny bluish green Lamborghini Aventador. I got inside and moved out of the parking lot. To ease my boredom, I turned on the radio and Maroon 5's Sugar was on. I sang along with the music as I drove to the mansion. It took me just twenty minutes to reach the mansion since it was not that far from our company building. I parked Ashi in our garage and walked towards the front door. I rang the doorbell. That door opened right away and I was greeted by my one and only sister/sibling Khloe. "Finally." She exclaimed sarcastically. I frowned at her, but she just hugged me though. "I missed you, Axel." Khloe was my one and only younger sister. She was four years younger than me to be exact. So, she was 23. "I miss you too, Khlow." I hugged her back. She was the one who broke the hug first and smiled at me. "Come on, dinner's ready." She informed, dragging me towards the dining room. When we entered the room, Mom and Dad were already settled in their seats. "Good evening, Mom, Dad." I greeted them with a hug. "It's been a long time, son." Dad suddenly said. "Well, there are a lot of papers to be done at work." Another excuse. The truth was that it wasn't much. I could even finish them without being caught up by the night. I barely attend to this kind of events, like I said. Something happened in the past and I suddenly changed. The once loving, caring, kind and good Axel was no longer there anymore. I became ruthless, cold, rude and womanizer. I played with the girls. If ever I date, it would just last a day. A week was probably its max. The horrible past and may anger took over me. That was why I became the way I was now. I didn't realize I zoned out for long until Khloe spoke. "Mom, how's your medical mission in the Philippines?" "Well, it was successful. We were able to help and treat many Filipinos. We gave them free medical checkups and medicines. We even immunized many babies. I'm so happy that I was able to help." Mom answered. "And oh, The Philippines is so beautiful. There are so many amazing spots. Beaches, falls, springs, islands, rivers, mountains and many more. I even want to stay there longer, but I just can't because I missed you already." Mom continued. Mom could be childish sometimes, but I loved her. I just listened to their conversation, not even saying anything until Dad spoke. "Do you still have a secretary?" That question was obviously directed to me. "I don't need one." I answered bluntly. "Of course you need them. That is why you barely attend family dinners and parties because there was nobody to help you at work." He said angrily. Now it was my turn to be angry. "I have Mr. Lee." "He is getting old. Don't worry, I'll find you one." Mom butted in. Ugh. Her attitude. "I said I don't need one. I can work on my own." I groaned. "No, I'll find you one because your Dad is right. You're now anti-social so you need to have a secretary. End of discussion." Mom finalized. I hated secretaries but not Mr. Lee. He was more than that to me. He was my best friend. Secretaries were like my tail or my puppy trailing behind me wherever I go. But, I couldn't do anything now to stop my parents. They could be so strict but they were my parents after all. They entrusted our company to me so I should obey and respect them. They know what was best, right? "Fine. You can find me one." I felt defeated. I guess I have to deal with a secretary soon. "Make sure it's a woman and a hot one." I continued. "Axel!!!" They all said disgustedly. I smirked. . Take that 'Axel's spell'. "God. Just kidding. You three are OA." I told them. "OA?" Khloe asked, confused. "Yeah. OA. Over Acting." But before Khloe could say something, Mom suddenly spoke. "There's a girl I met at the airport." Mom began. "She left her purse on her seat. I picked it up and wished she hadn't gone far. Good thing she's still there, staring up cutely at the busy city ahead of her. She's just so cute." Why is she telling us that? - "I tapped her shoulder, and then she turned to me. I returned her purse to her and she was so thankful. She seems kind." Mom's face turned to sadness. "But I forgot to ask her name due to rush. I wish I'll meet her again. And if ever I see her again, I'll get to know her and offer her a job as your secretary." Mom said. Seriously? That woman she was talking about wasn't the only girl in this world. And how could she be so sure that that woman needs a job? "And maybe we can be good friends." Khloe smiled. "And maybe she's the one who can change you." Dad said absent-mindedly. I suddenly got angry because of what he said. "I don't need someone to change me." I said glaring at him. "And get whoever you want." I told my Mom. I saw she flinched at my tone. Pushing my seat back, I walked out of the dining room and out of the mansion. How dare they bring that up? They knew it was a sore topic for me. I didn't want to remember what happened in the past. It was the reason I was who I was right now. Cold. Heartless. Arrogant. It was the reason why my family would always say that I need to change or I need to be tamed. No one could change me. No one could tame the beast inside of me because the past couldn't be changed. It happened already. No one can change that fact. I went to the garage and my anger slowly subdued when I saw my baby. I got inside the driver's seat and maneuvered out of the garage. I drove towards the gate of the mansion and the guards opened them. Once I was out of the mansion, I got on the road and headed towards my penthouse. *** I arrived at my apartment building after 15 minutes. My penthouse was on the top floor and there was another one across the hall. But mine was much bigger than the other. I owned the building after all. I headed towards the elevator and pressed the top floor. 'Ding' Once I heard the sound, I walked out of the elevator and along the hallway towards my penthouse. I headed towards my door, but before I got to open it, something caught my eye. There was no more 'For Sale' sign at the door across mine. I frowned. That was still there yesterday. Maybe he or she just arrived here today. I thought. I did not care though. With that, I opened my door and walked inside my penthouse. *** As I prepared for bed, there was only one thought in my mind. Maybe my Dad was right. Maybe I needed someone to change me. I was trying to change myself for the better, but it seemed like there was no any progress. The past, I did not forget about it yet. With that thought, I drifted into the world of darkness.
