Prologue
A lantern swings gently in the wind, casting flickering light on the temple walls. Beneath it, Amelia crouches in the shadows, heart pounding. She clutches a stolen page from the ancient tome Ethan discovered. The symbols burn in her mind, their meaning terrifyingly clear. The Eclipse was only the beginning.
Chapter 1:
The Vanished
Ethan wakes in darkness. His wrists ache, bound tightly behind his back. The air is thick with the scent of damp earth and something metallic—blood. He struggles, but the restraints hold firm. The last thing he remembers is Lucian's piercing gaze and the eerie whispers of the congregation as the Eclipse reached its peak.
Footsteps echo. A door creaks open, revealing a figure draped in shadow. It’s Amelia. She kneels beside him, hurriedly cutting his bindings. "We have to move. Now."
Ethan barely has time to question her before she pulls him to his feet. The temple corridors are eerily quiet as they slip through the candlelit hallways. But the silence is deceptive. The children are always watching.
Chapter 2:
Secrets Beneath the Stone
Amelia leads Ethan deep beneath the temple, through a hidden passage concealed behind the altar. The air grows colder, the walls damp with age. "I found this place when I was searching for my brother," she whispers. "It’s where they keep those who resist."
They enter a cave lined with iron cages. Ethan stumbles back as a skeletal hand reaches through the bars, pleading. More figures move in the darkness—gaunt, hollow-eyed prisoners, some barely conscious.
One of them croaks a warning: "The ceremony… It’s coming."
Before Ethan can react, a sound from above sends a jolt of panic through him. The alarm has been raised.
Chapter 3:
A Pact in Blood
Lucian stands at the altar, arms outstretched. "The Eclipse marks renewal," he declares to the gathered cultists. "We must offer the willing… and the unwilling."
Amelia and Ethan hide among the shadows of the temple’s upper level, watching the scene unfold. A robed figure is dragged forward—one of the prisoners from below. The chanting rises to a fever pitch as Lucian draws a ritual blade across the captive’s palm, letting blood drip onto the sacred stone.
Amelia’s grip tightens on Ethan’s arm. "We have to stop this."
Ethan swallows hard. Exposing the cult is one thing. Surviving it is another.
Chapter 4:
The Fire Rises
A plan forms—desperate but their only chance. They slip back into the underground chamber, freeing as many prisoners as they can. "We’ll burn it down," Ethan says. "If they want an Eclipse, let’s give them darkness."
Oil lamps shatter. Flames lick the ancient wood. The temple erupts in chaos as smoke fills the air. Ethan and Amelia race for the exit, the freed captives close behind.
Lucian's voice cuts through the crackling fire. "You cannot escape fate! The Eclipse will rise again!"
As the temple collapses, Ethan sees Lucian standing amid the inferno, untouched, smiling.
Cliffhanger
Ethan and Amelia emerge from the burning ruins, the survivors gasping in the cool night air. But something is wrong.
Lucian’s voice still echoes in their minds. And in the distant sky, the stars shift unnaturally.
The Children of the Eclipse is far from finished.
