Prologue
Darkness lingers over the commune like an unshakable fog. The air is thick with the scent of burning sage and something more metallic—something wrong. The Children of the Eclipse prepare for another ceremony, their whispers merging with the wind. In the depths of the temple, Ethan Cross clings to his consciousness, his body weak but his mind defiant. If he is to escape, it must be now.
Chapter 1:
The Price of Defiance
Ethan awakes in a dimly lit chamber, his wrists bound by frayed ropes. His last memory is of Lucian’s piercing gaze, the cult leader’s voice murmuring promises of transcendence. Across the room, Amelia stirs, her eyes wide with fear. “They’re preparing the Offering,” she whispers. “They need the blood of a non-believer.”
Heart pounding, Ethan struggles against his restraints. The symbols etched into the walls seem to shift, glowing faintly as if responding to unseen forces. Amelia moves closer, revealing a small shard of glass hidden in her sleeve. “We have to go. Now.”
Chapter 2:
The Hidden Passage
Cutting through their bonds, the two move quickly, creeping through the temple’s underground corridors. Ethan recalls the layout from the stolen documents—there must be a way out. The air grows colder as they descend deeper into the temple’s catacombs, the walls lined with forgotten relics and cryptic texts.
A distant chant begins to rise, signaling that time is running out. Then, Amelia stops abruptly. “Look.” She points to an inscription on a stone door: Through shadow and sacrifice, the Eclipse grants passage.
Ethan hesitates. “What if this leads us deeper?”
“It’s a risk we have to take.”
With a deep breath, they push the door open and step into the unknown.
Chapter 3:
The Ritual Unfolds
Above ground, Lucian stands before the gathered Children, the Eclipse reaching its zenith. The ceremony must proceed. His voice carries over the expectant silence: “Tonight, we embrace the darkness, and in return, we shall be reborn.”
Two acolytes drag forward another captive—a man from the town, his face contorted in terror. But Lucian hesitates. His eyes scan the crowd. He knows. Ethan is missing.
With a flick of his hand, he signals his followers. The hunt begins.
Chapter 4:
The Gate of Echoes
Ethan and Amelia reach a vast chamber, its ceiling lost in shadow. A massive stone altar stands at the center, surrounded by murals depicting past eclipses—each one ending in bloodshed.
Amelia gasps. “It’s a cycle… This has been happening for centuries.”
A hidden doorway looms at the far end of the chamber, but before they can reach it, the torches flicker—then extinguish. Footsteps echo behind them. The children have found them.
Lucian’s voice emerged from the darkness. “You cannot run from destiny.”
Chapter 5:
No More Running
Ethan grips the shard of glass, determination surging through him. “We make our stand here.”
Amelia nods, her fingers closing around a rusted ritual dagger she pried from the altar. As the first of Lucian’s followers lunges, Ethan strikes. A desperate battle ensues, blood staining the sacred floor.
In the chaos, Amelia finds an ancient mechanism—a lever hidden behind the murals. “This has to do something!” she shouts.
She pulls it. The ground trembles. A hidden door swings open, revealing a tunnel leading away from the temple.
Lucian snarls. “You think you can escape fate?”
Ethan and Amelia don’t wait to respond. They run.
Cliffhanger
As they emerge into the forest, the Eclipse reaches its peak. The sky turns to total darkness, and behind them, a monstrous, inhuman wail echoes from the temple. Ethan dares one last glance back—and sees something emerging from the shadows. Something that is not Lucian.
The true horror of the Eclipse has only just begun.
