Chapter 1- The New assistance
The sound of heels clicked sharply against the marble floor of the Cole Empire’s lobby, echoing with quiet confidence. Heads turned, conversations paused, and a few staff members exchanged curious looks as the elevator doors opened. Lila and Luna Blackwood stepped out side by side, their black suits tailored perfectly to their figures. The twins were similar in every way—long dark hair, sharp brown eyes, the kind of beauty that caught people off guard. But where Lila’s expression held a soft warmth, Luna’s eyes carried something else entirely. Determination. Fire. And underneath, something darker. “First impressions matter,” Luna whispered, adjusting the gold chain at her neck. Lila glanced at her. “We’re not here to make a scene. We’re here to work.” Luna smirked faintly. “You’re here to work, sister. I’m here to finish what was started.” Lila exhaled quietly, trying not to let the words sink into her chest the way they always did. Ever since their father’s death, Luna had never let go of her anger. Lila didn’t blame her for it—she just didn’t want to live in it. The receptionist, a petite woman with short braids, smiled professionally. “Good morning. How may I help you?” Luna returned the smile, perfect and disarming. “Lila and Luna Blackwood. We’re here for our first day as Mr. Cole’s executive assistants.” “Oh!” The woman straightened immediately. “Yes, of course. Welcome. He’s expecting you. Top floor.” As they walked toward the elevator, Luna’s reflection stared back at her from the mirrored doors. Calm. Poised. Dangerous. Exactly what she needed to be. “You still have time to stop this,” Lila whispered. Luna tilted her head slightly, amused. “And let him walk free like nothing happened? Never.” Lila didn’t answer. She knew better. Once Luna made up her mind, it was almost impossible to change it. The elevator doors opened to the top floor—a space designed with elegance and power in mind. Black and gold decor. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city. And at the far end, the office door with a gold plaque that read: ADRIAN COLE – CEO Luna’s pulse quickened. This is it. She had imagined this moment a thousand times—stepping into the empire of the man whose father she believed had destroyed their family. She’d spent years preparing. Studying. Planning. And now, she was finally here. An assistant greeted them and ushered them toward the large double doors. Inside, Adrian Cole was signing something on his desk, dressed in a black suit with the sleeves slightly rolled up. He looked exactly like the image Luna had burned into her mind: controlled, powerful, untouchable. When he finally looked up, his gaze swept over them—not like a man checking out a woman, but like a CEO assessing something that could change the rhythm of his company. “Lila and Luna Blackwood,” he said smoothly. His voice was deep, even, and strangely calm. “Welcome to Cole Empire.” Lila smiled softly. “Thank you, sir.” Luna mirrored the smile, but hers had an edge. “We’re honored to be here.” He gestured for them to sit. “I’ve read your files. Impressive credentials. Two top graduates in business management, both fluent in three languages, outstanding references.” A pause. “But more than that, you came highly recommended.” Luna crossed her legs gracefully. “We like to exceed expectations.” Something flickered in his eyes at that—curiosity, maybe. Or caution. After their orientation, Adrian gave them a brief tour of the floor. Lila absorbed everything, asking polite, intelligent questions about their tasks. Luna, however, paid attention to something else entirely—his routines, his assistant’s habits, the placement of security cameras, the way his office door locked from the inside. Every detail mattered. Revenge wasn’t just about anger. It was about precision. While Adrian was talking to another executive, Luna leaned slightly toward her sister. “You see that corner? No camera.” Lila frowned. “Luna—” “Just noting,” Luna said with a casual shrug, as if she hadn’t just been scouting a battlefield. By noon, the twins were settled at their shared desk right outside Adrian’s office. Their first day moved smoothly. Colleagues were warm. Tasks came in. Luna charmed everyone easily, just as planned. Adrian came out of his office once, talking to someone over the phone, and for a brief second, his eyes met Luna’s. It wasn’t a long look, but it was enough. He saw her. And she made sure he’d remember her. Lila saw it too. Her stomach tightened—not out of jealousy, but worry. She knew Luna too well. She’d seen this look before. Luna’s revenge was always wrapped in silk and sweet smiles. That evening, when most of the employees had gone home, Luna stayed behind to “organize some files.” Lila sat at her desk with her laptop open, but she wasn’t working—she was watching her sister closely. Luna walked into Adrian’s empty office slowly, fingertips brushing the edge of his desk. The room smelled faintly of cedarwood and something clean. Power lived here. But so did opportunity. “Luna,” Lila hissed, following her in. “What are you doing?” Luna turned with that calm, infuriating smirk. “I’m just familiarizing myself with the space.” “You’re playing with fire,” Lila warned. Luna stepped closer to the window, looking out at the glittering skyline. “Fire’s the only thing that burns people like him.” “You don’t even know if he’s guilty,” Lila whispered. Luna froze for a moment, but then her mask slid right back on. “He’s a Cole. That’s enough.” The next morning, Adrian noticed how efficient the twins were. They anticipated his needs before he even asked. Lila was quick, organized, and polite. Luna was sharper—almost too sharp. But he couldn’t deny she had a presence that was hard to ignore. During a meeting, Luna leaned close to hand him a file. The faint scent of jasmine followed. Their eyes met briefly. Her smile was soft. His guard went up a little higher. He didn’t know it yet, but Luna Blackwood was already mapping every corner of his world. That night, when they got home, Lila dropped her bag and sat heavily on the couch. “You’re not just here to work, are you?” Luna didn’t deny it. She walked to the mirror, pulling her hair into a sleek ponytail. “No.” “Luna—” “You can stay out of it,” Luna said quietly. “Or you can follow me. But nothing is stopping me.” Lila stared at her sister, torn between love and fear. She knew Luna’s pain ran deep. She also knew this path could ruin everything—for all of them. The next day, Luna arrived at the office earlier than everyone else. She looked flawless, polished, and untouchable. Just the way she needed to be. When Adrian walked past her desk, she greeted him with a polite smile. He returned it out of courtesy. But what he didn’t see was the storm already forming behind her calm eyes. Luna had stepped into the Cole Empire not to build a future—but to destroy one. And the first move had already been made.
