Chapter 8

1773 Words
Rowena "Okay, let's get you to your room so that you can rest for a bit. I'm going to have a few pack members bring food to the house so we have something we can eat." Jesse informs me as he wheels me into the house we are being moved into while my body focuses on healing. I look up at him curiously. When he sees me looking at him, he puts on a pretend offended expression. "I'll have you know, Aria taught me lots of stuff about cooking. Growing up as rogues, she wanted me to know how to take care of myself in case anything happened to her." When he finished his proud sentence, I give him a questioning look. "That's a story for another time. Hey, how about after you rest I take you around the property so you can get a look of the place. If you want, I'm sure Aria can set something up outside for you." He suggests happily. I nod at him in agreement. We aren't sure how long we'll have to be in this house so it would be nice to have a garden to sit in. Maybe we can set up an area for painting and I can have one of the art students teach me a little about painting. Going through the house, I like how it feels. Most of the walls are a cream color. There are white curtains drawn back in the living room. There is a beige leather couch against one wall and a cream-colored recliner next to an end table made from some kind of dark wood. There is also a coffee table made from a lighter wood. Across the room from the seating area is a large flat screen TV positioned on a large TV stand. I wonder if Jesse will let me decorate the house. I think excitedly. As we pass the kitchen, I feel blinded. The stove, sink, dishwasher, and fridge are all stainless steel. The fridge looks like it can hold a lot. I bring Jesse's phone up so that I can type. 'If I make a list of food, do you think the pack can get us some items?' When he hears the phone speak for me, he looks down at me. "I don't see why not. It will be a little difficult for you to cook though. If there is anything, in particular, you want to make, I can help you. Unless Aria can think of a way for you to be able to sit by the stove to cook." He tells me honestly. I nod to that. We continue through the house, looking through each room. There are four bedrooms in total. He let me pick which bedroom I want. I choose the bedroom nearest the living room. That way, if there is an intruder, I can get out easier. It's a two-story house but thankfully, everything we need is on the main floor of the house. Jesse also discovers there is a basement. In the room I chose, he helps me onto the bed that is in the bedroom. He hands me the notepad I brought with us and my pen. "Write down whatever we'll need for the house while I help the others. We can work on ordering more later in the week. The things we ordered for you should be in sometime this week. Beau will get the call saying they are ready to be picked up and he will send some pack members to go get them." He told me as he moves my wheelchair into the closest. I nod at him before he walks out, closing my door so no one would bother me. I got started making my list as I listen to everyone moving through the house. They had to put his things in his room and add some things to the kitchen so we can cook meals. After an hour, Jesse comes in to check on me. "Hey, how are you feeling?" He asks me. Grabbing his phone from beside me, I type my response. 'A little tired from everything today but otherwise, I'm okay. I got most of the more important items written down if you want to hand it to a pack member.' At that, he lifts the list to get a look at it. "I hadn't even thought of some of these items. I'm glad I had you do the list. I would have forgotten that there are things you'll need as a girl." He says with a little awkward laugh. I shake my head in amusement. Considering he's never had to take care of a girl younger than him, it's only natural. "Oh, before I forget. Jessica was able to get some donations for clothes in your size from members of the pack. She wants to bring them into your room but prefers to have your permission before entering." Jesse informed me. The thought made me a little nervous. I don't like the idea of someone I don't know being in my sanctuary. Someone hyper and excitable that I don't know more about than their name. When he sees the look on my face, he sits on the side of my bed. "Hey, it'll be okay. I'll stay right next to you the whole time she's in here and it'll only be her. No one else will come in while she's in here." He reassures me. Hesitantly, I nod my consent. He goes to the door and lets her in. She enters slowly with a few large bags and Jesse sits back down next to me. She goes to the dresser currently in my room first. "How is she doing so far in the pack?" Jessica asks him, while I lay down completely so that I can try to rest. "She seems to be calmer now. She still gets nervous around other people but I think that's to be expected. I doubt she'll be okay with other males in her room." He explains while I make a noise with my throat that makes him shot an amused look in my direction. "Well, from what I do understand, that is completely normal. This room is her sanctuary, the room she should feel safest in. Having a male other than you in here will make her afraid of what they may do. She seems to trust you because you're closer to her age and you're awkward and nervous around the Alpha and other dominant wolves. While she'll feel like she can trust you, she doesn't know about the other males of the pack and she won't be able to handle being around males of ranks while her body is recovering." They continue talking as she puts clothes away. She brought hangers with her and she works to also hang up certain types of clothes, explaining to me what clothes should be hung up and what goes in the dresser. While she is hanging stuff up, there is a knock on my door. My head snaps in the direction of my bedroom door and I can sense a dominant aura from the other side, causing my body to start shaking. Instead of telling the person on the other side of the door to enter, Jesse gets up and opens the door, blocking the doorway with his body. "Beta Shayne, welcome. Is there something you need?" Jesse asks the man. I can somewhat see him from my position on the bed, but I keep my eyes averted when I hear Jesse call him Beta. "I just picked this up from the phone company. Also, if she thinks she can handle it, there are some specialty doctors out in the living room that want to get an idea of various aspect of her health." The man says softly. Jesse turns to me to get my answer. After thinking for a moment, I decided to just get it all over with. Jessica pulls my wheelchair out so that Jesse can help me back in it. "Thank you, Beta Shayne. Can you wait out in the living room while I bring her out? I'm afraid the sense of dominance may set her or her wolf off." Jesse states respectfully. I can't help but notice that he seems calm around the Beta while not around his brother-in-law. When we reach the living room, I notice a few different doctors are sitting. They stand when they see us. "Hello, Rowena. Luna Aria requested we get an understanding of your medical history for a few different things. Is it okay if we ask you some medical questions?" One of the women asks. I nod my head, pulling Jesse's phone up to get ready to type my answers. The first one that stepped forward was the woman that addressed me first. "Okay, Rowena. I'm Dr. Silvia Sanchez. I'm the pack's dentist. Did you ever go to a dentist growing up?" The first question is asked and it's an easy one. I shake my head, not recalling ever going to one when my parents were alive. "Do you have any kind of dental hygiene?" Another easy question that I shake my head too. "Do you know how to use dental hygiene products?" Again, I shake my head, not even know what dental hygiene products are. I see her frown at this. "Do you mind if I take a quick peek at your teeth?" Her question confused me but I nod anyway. She slowly steps closer and tells me to open my mouth wide. I do as told and she gently grasps my chin, moving my head a little so she can see inside. After making a few comments to Jesse, who is writing a few notes, she asks a slightly bigger question that gives me pause. "Would you be okay with us setting an appointment while your body is healing?" I thought about it for a few minutes. Pulling the phone up, I type, 'who would be at the appointment?' The doctor thinks for a moment. "As your guardian, Aria would be there. If you want, Jesse can be there as well. No one else has to be in the room. Just the four of us." She explains to me. I nod after that, agreeing to an appointment. This goes on with the other doctors. There is an eye doctor, hearing doctor, and the dentist. I have appointments with all of them around the same week that I see Shaun for a check-up. After they finish speaking to me, everyone leaves the house. Finally, it's peaceful and quiet, just Jesse and me.
