Chapter 7

Rowena "Row, none of it is your fault. Everything you feel is because of your circumstance and past. It'll get better, I promise. Aria and I will be with you every step of the way. When you fall, we will be there to catch you." I hear Jesse's voice softly in my ear and I just lean against him. I am starting to feel emotionally and mentally exhausted. "Do something with her to get her mind off everything for a bit, Jess. I'm going to have a word with Shaun, I'll be back in soon." Aria says gently. After they step out, Jesse stands with me in his arms and moves toward the door. I look up at him confused. He stays silent, holding me close as he walks out of the door, leaving the office. He walks back down the hall, to the room next to mine. He opens it and I am hit with a brick wall of his scent. His room. He takes me over to his desk and sits me in his chair. He boots up his laptop. "We can look for some stuff for your room and watch TV." He says, turning to me. He turns the TV to something called Disney Channel and turns the volume down so that it is just background noise. "Okay, first furniture. Do you want a different bed? Maybe something bigger?" I think about my bed for a few minutes. 'Maybe something softer and bigger.' I type into his phone. He brings up a website called Google and types in "Tempurpedic". He finds a full-size bed on a furniture site and adds it to a cart. Scrolling through their different products, he nods to himself. "I think this will be a good site to get some other pieces of furniture for your room." He pauses before looking at me. "Do you have any interests? Anything you would want to try and see it if you'd like it?" His question gives me pause. I think about things I will like to try but I just shrug. "Hmm... I have an idea." He falls silent and I realize he is mind linking someone. "Alright, we will be going to the meeting room in a couple of hours, so for now, we'll get the basics for your room." He then lets me scroll through dressers, desks, TV stands, and things for people to sit on. We have a decent bedroom set picked out so he places the order. After that, he pulls up something called Sprint and helps me pick out a tablet, laptop, and cell phone, along with cases and accessories for them. He also goes and orders a large TV for my room. By the time he's done placing the orders for everything, almost two hours have passed. He lifts me into his arms and carries me down to the first floor and sits me in my wheelchair. Aria arrives and they get me to the meeting room. I am still confused as to why we have to go to the meeting room but I get my answer shortly. When Aria opens the door, the room is somewhat chaotic. My eyes widen at the sight of so many people. Upon hearing the door shut, all eyes inside turn to us. I feel Jesse place his arm on my shoulder. I look up at him. "Most of the people here are part of different clubs at the high school. Some are adults with certain hobbies. I thought it might be good to give you some ideas to look at and understand so that you can decide what you want to try. Aria will even record everything so that you can go back through later to make a decision." His explanation touched me. I haven't had someone care so much about my interests since that day at the cabin. It makes me want to hug them both. I manage to c***k a little smile for them. Smiling still feels awkward. A few girls come over to me to introduce themselves and their friends. When they see my reaction to strangers coming near me, a couple of them break down. I frowned, confused about why they are breaking down at my reaction. Jesse starts me at the front, wanting to let me get comfortable with being around so many people before we get to the middle of the back. Some of them set up weird cardboard stands that have things pasted to the boards. Some have small monitors to show clips of things. The boards show things like writing, different types of art, pottery, and reading. While the monitors show physical activities like dance, yoga, and other forms of exercise. It is surprisingly really fun. I, of course, got to meet several of the girls around my age. The adults I meet struggle to look at my condition and some of the teenagers openly weep for my pain. I am confused by all the various reactions. Through everything, two girls stand out above the rest. One is so malicious that Jesse had to have a guard escort her out of the room. She was supposed to be showing me cheerleading and its perks but ended up mocking me and making fun of me. I frowned at the idea of someone being so rude to those weaker than her. I decided that if I can ever go to school, I don't want anything to do with the popular crowd. I also realized that because of my status as Alpha's daughter, some are friendly to my face, but as soon as they thought I couldn't hear them, they turned out to be as bad as that girl. I decide I don't care to make friends, not when there's a chance they'll only be my friend because of my position in the pack. The other girl, was quiet when we approached. When Jesse moved my wheelchair too close, she shied away slightly. She did not want to be touched, even by a crippled girl who literally couldn't harm a fly in her condition. Her name was May and her voice was so soft sometimes I struggled to hear her words. I still envied her because at least she can talk, but it also made me wonder about her. I had at one point used Jesse's phone to invite her to hang out the following day. "I don't know. I can try but I won't make promises. Will Alpha Beau be there?" Her voice shook as she asked me her question. I shook my head and replied quickly. 'I can ask Aria to have him leave the house while you're over if you would prefer that.' She nodded and repeated that she'll try. Happy that I may have made a friend, we finish up in the room, and Jesse wheels me out. He had asked one of the girls from a sewing club to come by his room to help me figure out my size in clothes and help me order some online. She had agreed so when we leave the room, she follows us. "How long has it been since you did any kind of clothes shopping?" The girl asks excitedly. She contains a lot of excitement and she is easily distracted. I shrug my shoulders, unsure of the answer myself. "Once your body is healed more and you are a bit more comfortable, maybe we can drag your shadow out of the house and do some real shopping in the town nearby." "Shadow...?" Jesse's voice is quiet, as though talking to himself, I giggle a little a stiffen. When was the last time I laughed? Have I laughed at all since I got here? I can't remember. I tap Jesse's hand on the wheelchairs handle and he looks down at me. I write out an 'S' in the air, hoping he understood my question without me typing it. "I'll have him meet us at my room so you can talk to him." He reassures me, making me smile that he already understood what I want without me typing it. When we get to his room, Aria and Shaun are waiting for us inside. "Alright, let Jessica get her measurements first then I'll let her ask whatever she is wanting to ask," Jesse says, sitting me carefully on my feet since he had to carry me up the stairs. He holds onto my hands to keep me steady while I keep my fractured leg off the floor. Jessica makes quick work of getting all the measurements she needs to help me order my clothes. Jesse sits me in his chair in front of his computer before turning the chair to face Shaun. I look down at his phone and type on the app. 'I'm not sure if it means something or not, but I'm noticing that I'm forgetting small things. Like whether I already met someone or not or whether I've laughed since getting here. It isn't big things but it's enough to make me worry.' Shaun frowns at this. He does a quick exam, having me follow the light on his pen with my eyes and things like that. Jessica is silently sitting on Jesse's bed the whole time with her brows furrowed in what I assume is a concern. Once he finishes, he sighs before grabbing a chair from the corner. "I'll admit, I did have a concern about this when you were brought to me. It has been solidified more after the last couple of incidents with fully grown, dominant male wolves." He seems to age right before my eyes. "What is it, Shaun?" Aria asks. "I think... it will be easier for her if she isn't in this house while she recovers." His words make my heart drop. He's going to suggest the send me packing... "Why, Shaun? What's going on with her?" Aria sounds like she's going to cry. "It seems that while she wants to get better, her mind is battling with her. Its the stress that keeps being caused. It isn't helping her mind to be terrified all the time. I'm going to suggest to Beau that we temporarily move her into a house with someone she trusts enough. Getting away from things that make her anxious or nervous may help." The only person I'm comfortable enough with who would be able to help me get around is Jesse... is Shaun suggesting they temporarily move me and Jesse into a place away from the packhouse?
