The Power Within Her

640 Words
Elara couldn't feel her body. Everything around her had become distant. The burning buildings. The screaming warriors. Lucien calling her name. Ryder fighting desperately against the hooded warrior. All of it sounded as though it were happening miles away. Only one thing remained clear. The voice inside her head. **Come to me.** Her silver eyes lifted toward Azrath. The ancient beast stared back at her. It wasn't attacking. It was waiting. "Elara!" Lucien's voice finally broke through the darkness. He rushed toward her. The moment he reached for her hand, a powerful burst of energy forced him backward. "Lucien!" Elara tried to run toward him. But her feet wouldn't move. Silver light surrounded her body. Then something darker appeared beneath it. Black veins of energy crawled across the ground. Darius stepped backward. "Alpha..." Lucien rose slowly. "Don't touch her." "But she's losing control." "I know." His eyes never left Elara. "Elara, look at me." She fought against the strange force surrounding her. "I can't..." "You can." His voice was calm. Steady. "You've survived everything they've thrown at you." "Don't let this be different." Her eyes flickered. For a moment, the silver glow weakened. Lucien took another step. "Come back to me." The words reached somewhere deep inside her. She remembered his hand around hers in the forest. His cloak around her shoulders. His promise. *"If you call my name, I'll come."* Her breathing steadied. The darkness began to retreat. Then— A scream shattered the moment. Ryder collapsed. The hooded warrior had driven a blade into his shoulder. Elara's head snapped toward him. "No!" The silver light exploded. The hooded warrior was thrown across the battlefield. Ryder landed hard against the stone steps. Elara ran to him. "Ryder!" He tried to stand. "Don't." She placed her hands over his wound. Silver light flowed through her fingers. Within seconds, the bleeding stopped. Ryder stared at her in disbelief. "You healed me again." Elara looked at her glowing hands. "I didn't choose to." "Then what did?" She slowly turned toward Azrath. The creature was watching her. Its enormous head lowered. **You are beginning to remember.** Elara froze. "Remember what?" The beast's eyes flashed. **Who you were before they made you forget.** The Lycan King stepped forward. "Don't listen to it." Azrath laughed. "You still hide the truth from her." The King raised his sword. "Enough." Azrath turned toward him. "You know what she is." "I know what she could become." "And you're afraid." The King said nothing. Elara looked between them. "What aren't you telling me?" The King finally lowered his sword. "You were not born ordinary." "I already know that." "No." His voice softened. "You were born during the last Shadow Moon." Elara's heart stopped. "My mother..." "Your mother died protecting you." Ryder stepped forward despite his injury. "What does that have to do with the prophecy?" The King looked at him. "Everything." Before he could explain, a violent howl came from the forest. Then another. And another. Hundreds of crimson eyes appeared between the trees. Darius's face went pale. "More rogues." Lucien looked toward the forest. "No." The Lycan King corrected him. "Not rogues." The creatures stepped into the moonlight. They were wolves... But their bodies were covered in black markings. Their eyes glowed crimson. And every one of them wore the serpent symbol around its neck. The Serpent Order had arrived. Their leader walked calmly through the flames. He removed his hood. Elara stared at his face. She knew him. Her breath caught. "No..." Lucien looked at her. "You know him?" Tears filled her eyes. She whispered the name she had tried to forget. "He's..." "The man who killed my mother." The man's smile widened. "Hello, little Moon Heir." He looked at Elara's glowing eyes. "Your mother fought beautifully." Then he raised his hand. "And now..." "...it's your turn."
