The Battle For The Moonheir

659 Words
The first explosion was followed by another. Then another. The ground beneath Silver Fang shook as smoke billowed into the sky. Outside, wolves howled in terror. The rogue army had broken through the outer wall. Lucien moved first. "Darius!" His Beta appeared almost instantly. "Get Elara to safety." Elara stepped forward. "I'm not leaving." Lucien's golden eyes met hers. "This isn't a request." Before anyone could argue, Ryder unsheathed his sword. "They're heading for the ceremonial grounds." Lucien glanced at him. "Then we hold them here." For one tense heartbeat, the two Alphas stared at each other. Three days ago they had been enemies. Today... They stood side by side. Not because they trusted each other. Because they both refused to lose Elara. Outside... The once peaceful village had become a battlefield. Flames consumed several buildings. Silver Fang warriors fought desperately against waves of rogue wolves pouring through the shattered gates. But these weren't ordinary rogues. Their eyes glowed crimson. Their movements were unnaturally fast. Almost as if something else controlled them. Darius cursed under his breath. "They're enhanced." Lucien nodded grimly. "The Order." Elara watched from the temple steps. Every instinct screamed at her to help. Warriors carried the wounded past her. Children cried for their parents. An elderly woman collapsed nearby, clutching her injured leg. Without thinking, Elara ran to her. "My Lady!" A healer tried to stop her. "The battlefield isn't safe!" "But these people need help." She tore a strip from her cloak and wrapped the woman's wound. Another injured warrior staggered toward her. Then another. Soon, Elara found herself surrounded by the wounded. Her hands worked tirelessly. Cleaning wounds. Stopping bleeding. Offering comfort. Every person she touched seemed to calm. Then... The moonstone pendant around her neck began to glow. A soft silver light spread from her fingertips. The deep cuts on the elderly woman's arm slowly closed. The bleeding stopped. The woman gasped. "My wound..." The nearby healer stared in disbelief. "Impossible..." No healer possessed that kind of power. The silver light continued flowing from Elara. Every injured warrior within reach began to recover. Not completely. But enough to stand and fight again. Across the battlefield, wolves paused. Even the rogues looked toward the growing light. Lucien turned. His expression changed instantly. "No..." He knew exactly what was happening. "The prophecy..." The hooded leader smiled from atop the ruined wall. "So..." "The Moon Heir has awakened." He raised both hands toward the sky. Every rogue stopped fighting. Then, in perfect unison... They all turned toward Elara. Thousands of glowing crimson eyes locked onto her. The hooded leader's voice thundered across the battlefield. "Take her alive!" The rogue army charged as one. Lucien shifted into his massive black wolf before the first rogue reached her. Ryder shifted beside him. A black wolf. And a silver wolf. Standing shoulder to shoulder. Protecting the same woman. The battle that followed would be remembered for generations. Lucien tore through the enemy ranks with terrifying precision. Ryder fought with desperate determination, refusing to let a single rogue pass. Still... There were too many. A rogue slipped through the defenses and lunged at Elara. She froze. Before it could reach her— A blinding burst of silver light exploded from her pendant. The force hurled every rogue within twenty feet backward. The battlefield fell silent. The light slowly faded. When Elara opened her eyes... A glowing silver wolf stood beside her. Not flesh and blood. A spirit. Its eyes, identical to hers, shone with ancient wisdom. It looked at Lucien. Then at Ryder. Finally... It spoke in a voice that echoed across the valley. "The Heir has awakened... but the true war has only just begun." The spirit vanished. No one moved. No one spoke. Then, from somewhere beyond the burning forest... A horn sounded. Deep. Ancient. Powerful. Lucien's face lost all color. He whispered words that sent fear through every Blood Moon warrior. "The Lycan King..." "...has returned."
