Chapter 1
THE SEED OF MY HUSBAND’S BETRAYAL
CHAPTER ONE
Taylor Rhodes strolled happily down the marble-paved passage that crossed into her husband’s office. She carried his favourite cup of coffee in one hand and a homemade lunch in the other.
Her visit was to surprise her husband, Mathew Rhodes, with her early return from the solo vacation he desperately convinced her she needed after handing over her company to him.
She had come home and spent her early hours on a tangible lunch to express deep gratitude towards the man behind the almost perfect weekend he gifted to her. His absence was the reason why it wasn't perfect.
When the knob to the office screwed open, the vibrant smile on Taylor’s face fell, and she stared in complete shock at the scene that greeted her.
Shawna Tiggs, the vestigial secretary in Matthew’s description, the woman she thought was her best friend, and the last woman she ought to be threatened by, was kneeling between her husband’s legs with his manhood vehemently thrusting into her gaping hole of a mouth.
“What…!” Taylor blinked, desperately wishing the view in front of her wasn’t real and that she was somehow in a dream she’d soon jerk awake from.
However, the startled reaction from her husband as he stared away from the thrill he was occupied with proved all that was needed for proof.
“Taylor!” He called, disoriented as he struggled to adjust himself back to a framing perfection.
“What is she doing here? You said she wouldn’t be back until Tuesday?” Shawna queried annoyingly, standing up from her position to sentence Taylor to a death glare.
“Matthew…” She gazed at him with watery eyes, her lips quivering.
The plan was indeed for her to get back on Tuesday. She only cut out early on the intent to surprise him with his favourite dish prepared to thank him for the romantic gesture.
Little did she know it was more of a calculated move than the loving gesture she thought it was.
“Darling…” Shawna’s tone was intentionally seductive as she turned to face Matthew. “Isn’t it high time she’s brought to speed…?”
Taylor watched the she-devil slumping against her man run her long, slender hand up and around his chest. Betrayal crashed into her chest like a physical blow.
“I’m sorry, Taylor, but the man you thought was yours never actually chose you.”
A smug smirk appeared as she grabbed onto Matthew’s arm, relishing the sight of shock mixed with anguish eating at Taylor’s face.
“Why?” Taylor popped the question dejectedly, the tears she was trying so hard to hold back releasing from the cage.
Her best friend since college, and the man who chased her for five years. The reality was too cruel and the pain—so unbearable she couldn't swallow.
“Why?” She cackled hysterically. “I’ll tell you why. It’s because you don’t deserve anything you’ve got. Your perfect life, your successes, goals, everything else, and all. You don’t deserve it!”
“Call me jealous, evil, or whatever word you can think of, but that is just the truth. Everything was always handed over to you while the likes of us worked hard and still got rewarded with scraps, and as if that wasn’t shitty enough. You still had the gut to think I was worth those measly scraps I’m rewarded with?” Anger gleamed through her burning embers of resentment.
A contrast to the dull bluish eyes in strained tears. Taylor was over her shock; her heart was getting shredded, and the pain hit fresher with each word that came forward for her to hear.
“So yes, I told my boyfriend about this great plan for us to get what we deserve. I staged your cute meet, and the rest happened exactly like I wanted it to happen. It was a long wait, but we finally have your fortune secured in our name. You’ve lost Taylor, and if I were you? I’d pack my sorry a*s out of here and go commit suicide.”
Taylor felt the weight of suffocation push at her despite the elite furnishing of the office against the heat. Her knuckles trembled.
She pinched herself hard, the impact barely matching the raw emotional t*****e she’s been subjected to.
"Matthew, tell me she's lying." Taylor sobbed, but no word came from Matthew.
She gently dropped the lunch and the coffee, and without uttering more words to engage the torment, she turned around and left.
Following the early wake of her absence, Shawna spun away from Matthew, slipping into anxiousness.
“She wasn't supposed to ever find out; that is not good. What are we going to do?” She paced around panicking, unmasked from the tough image she previously had up against Taylor’s confrontation.
“Relax, babe, there’s nothing for you to be worried about.” Matthew walked up to her to steady her shaky posture.
His hands planted each on her shoulder as he gazed down on her lovingly. “We simply need her gone before she has the chance to react.”
Shawna slipped into relief at the thought of that. “Yeah.” She nodded calmly.
Matthew gave her a smile before dipping his hand down into his pocket to retrieve his mobile. Once he had the device on in full activation, he placed a call through a contact he spent mere seconds to locate.
The dial took all about two rings before it was answered.
“Plans changed. I need her dead today.”
“Understood.” A mannish, gruff voice responded.
The brief call ended, and a bright smile lit up on Shawna’s face at the scene recently experienced.
Taylor dragged her feet solemnly through the floor as she stepped into the elevator. The very air she breathed took a heavy toll on her each time it was taken.
Then she opened up her bag, bringing out the folded document that originally urged her surprise visit and early return.
Concluded medical reports were printed out clearly on the paper to affirm the state of her positive pregnancy. The words stared back at Taylor in sheer cheerlessness.
She’s been living a fantasy, a truth realized too late.
