Jordan “Ms. Lawson.” The doctor has taken a seat now, facing Percy directly. “Glad to see you brought someone for moral support. It’s always a little rattling to come to this kind of appointment, I imagine.” I look over at Percy, and that icy expression, the fake calm smile she put on a few minutes ago, still sends a jolt of pain to my stomach. Something is not right. She was nervous earlier and then completely enthralled by the ultrasound. Warmth spreads in my chest when I remember that thumping heartbeat and the joy and awe in her pretty blue eyes. But it lasted only for a second. I have no idea what happened.
